About Cubby Momsen

My husband, Frits and I built this cottage from an old barn that we rescued. This was our home while building our new house just completed in October 2013. We lived here with our two dogs very comfortably for 21/2 years and now want to share it with our guests. Frits is a builder who can manage any building or repair job and I am an active real estate broker. Prior to building this new house we lived in Stowe for 35 years. We are available to our guests around the clock should you need anything.

Cubby Momsen purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Cubby Momsen chose Stowe Area

Whether you are a couple who love nature and the outdoors or just like to curl up next to the wood stove with a good book, you will enjoy this beautiful setting and charming cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Natural ledges, huge rock formations and gorgeous southerly views attracted us to this 18 acre parcel of land surrounded by larger conserved acreage. Building here was a challenge but well worth the effort. We love the convenience of being on the south side of Stowe for easy access to Burlington and the airport yet tucked away in our own private place to enjoy the birds and animals that reside here with us.

Perfect winter getaway with our 2 dogs

  • 5 of 5

We drove out from Chicago with our two dogs in mid-February for a quick 3-day ski trip to Stowe...and the 16 hour drive was definitely worth it. Not only was the skiing amazing, but Badger Cottage made the trip unforgettable.

The cottage is cozy, yet spacious, and full of rustic charm. Lots of reclaimed wood and industrial antique pieces really give the cottage an authentically rustic feel, but the finishes are conveniently modern and sleek for a lovely "best of both worlds" feel. The cottage has hardwood floors throughout, with slate in the foyer, laundry room, and bathroom, which is perfect for easy clean up when our two dogs came in from playing in the snow. The full sized stacked washer and dryer were great for drying wet ski gear each night (and the heater was perfect for drying wet ski boots). We didn't use the gorgeous wood stove this time, but we plan to learn how to use it next time and take full advantage.

After skiing all day, the huge king sized bed in the loft upstairs felt like sleeping on clouds. We loved waking up and watching the sun rise from the upper windows. We also loved the single bed on the main floor, which came in handy a few times for post-skiing naps.

As for location, the cottage is nice and secluded, but everything you need is only a few minutes away in Waterbury or Stowe, including grocery stores, shopping, take out food, ski equipment shops, etc. The surrounding area is wooded and our dogs loved romping on the trails behind the cottage. They even got to meet the owners' adorable little yorkie mix. This place is surprisingly pet friendly, which is one of the reasons we initially booked it. We felt our dogs were as welcome as we were, which is rare for vacation properties.

We loved every minute of our stay at Badger Cottage and we can't wait to come back next winter for a full week (or longer!) Thank you Fritz and Cubby for a perfect winter getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the badger cottage was perfect. We loved staying here. Just a short drive to the town of stowe and skiing at stowe. This is a restored barn done well! They have everything you'll need. It was warm, comfortable and clean. We will be coming back!

Wonderful stay at the cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two nights at the cottage and had a wonderful time. It was beautifully, uniquely and thoughtfully built and we found it relaxing and comfortable. It is close to restaurants, stores and things to do so the location is perfect. Cubby and Fritz are very friendly and helpful and we are looking forward to returning sometime soon!

Perfect winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I absolutely loved this cottage for our romantic winter getaway. Great location for all winter activities and restaurants of waterbury and stowe. The place had everything you cold think of, all amenities of home. We found ourselves cancelling dinner reservations to cook and spend as much time in the cabin as possible. Loved the wood stove and netflix on the TV. The views of camels hump from the king bed loft are awesome. Ben and jerrys so close to the property! In the winter snow I think all wheel drive is necessary to access the property. We had the best time at the cottage and will definitely be back!
