We know our fellow travelers have a lot of vacation rental options in and around Taos. We believe all they need to do is watch our beautifully shot video tour of the house and the property with its private forested surroundings and read our guest reviews and they can picture themselves in one of the best family vacation getaways in winter, spring, summer or fall in Taos New Mexico.

Safe travels everyone and Happy vacationing.

(Please click on the link below to view our video tour of beautiful Las Posadas El Salto.)

Sitting on several wooded acres and nestled at the foot of the majestic Sangre De Cristo mountain range, Las Posadas El Salto is Northern New Mexico’s ultimate vacation home. This architect designed custom built mountain adobe chalet boasts an incredible view of Taos Valley to the West, and to the East an awe inspiring view of Taos Mountain and El Salto peak normally reserved for the pages of your favorite travel magazine!

Imagine waking up in the morning to fresh mountain air, while taking in your “100 mile” view of the Taos Valley from your 800 square foot balcony, located just outside the master bedroom. Soak away stress in your private hot-tub or settle into a plush sofa and watch your favorite movie on one of 2 flat-screen televisions fully connected to Direct TV Satellite. The house has a fine DVD collection for guests to watch and movie streaming capability from your smart phone. (please bring your appropriate cable/adapter for your smartphone iPhone or Android to hook up to the TV HDMI cables provided) to watch any movies, photos or other media content from your smartphone.

Cook your meals and entertain guests using your spacious and fully equipped gourmet kitchen or head 2 miles down the road for dinner in the quaint mountain village of Arroyo Seco. Your home comes with high speed broadband Wi-Fi internet access and even a small business center so that you take care of your clients and get right back to enjoying your mountain getaway.

Conveniently located 8 miles from downtown Taos, and 8 miles from the world renowned slopes of Taos Ski Valley; you will not find a better place to serve as a hub for the endless wonders of Taos New Mexico and the surrounding areas. It doesn’t matter if you are a first time visitor, or a seasoned traveler to Taos. Los Posadas El Salto will provide you with the vacation experience of a lifetime.

We hear over and over again that when guests arrive and relax at the house, they feel the weight of hectic life schedules and stress and demands lifted. This is one of the most peaceful and quiet settings in Taos. Most properties here have the noise of some road or highway or other city type sounds. At Las Posadas El Salto all you hear is the wind singing through the tall pines and snow falling on cedars in winter.

We hope this description of travel information to our property and all of Northern New Mexico in the winter months from October through April is helpful in answering vehicle and access questions.

Las Posadas El Salto is located in the Southern Rocky Mountain region. We see snow and variable winter weather from late October to late spring (April) as well as does the rest of Northern New Mexico. We stay on top of the job of snow removal of the driveway and walk ways at the property with our own snow removal equipment, including using our own snowplow to keep the road to the house/property plowed as well.

Our neighborhood also hires a private snow removal contractor for the main road that the property is located on. We also spread small gravel for traction as much as possible. We have learned this from 25 years of skiing at Taos Ski Valley which has similar road and walkway winter maintenance. We have always advised our guests on the websites to use good judgement when embarking on a winter getaway to all of Northern New Mexico and other nearby states that experience winter weather that can make traveling by car a little tricky. We suggest the following options for vehicles.

1) 4 wheel drive or AWD is strongly recommended. (But there are other options that our guests and friends can take.)

2) For front wheel drive vehicles and rear wheel drive vehicles only. We suggest buying two inexpensive snow tires, that are non studded for the front wheels or drive wheels and we also suggest purchasing a set of good snow chains for the car as well.

We have never had a vehicle problem in 25 years of living in Taos that we couldn't take care of without any mishap. We extend that help and advice to our traveling friends and guests coming into the area in Winter time to avoid any problems. We wish all our guests very safe travels on all their excursions. Happy vacationing.

About Jamie Baldonado & Jenna Allen

As designers and builders from California and New Mexico. We finally found a place where we could create and build the Green/Eco type of structure that would compliment the beauty of the land. New mexico is so famous for allowing artisans to choose different materials and construction types. It just made sense to make this home in El Salto.

Jamie Baldonado & Jenna Allen purchased this chateau / country house in 1996

Why Jamie Baldonado & Jenna Allen chose Arroyo Seco

If you have the chance to read our reviews or if you are a seasoned Taos local, you will already know that this area of Taos called El Salto is the best place to live in the Taos valley. It is the most desirable and expensive real estate in Taos County.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

As we have said.' El Salto is the best area in Taos'. The forest, the quiet, the deep snows in the winter and cool temps in the Summer make it so magical any time of year. Just ask any local about El Salto.

El Salto

  • 5 of 5

Awesome cabin in the woods. Temperatures were warmer than normal but the elevation of the cabin along with the large windows and doors kept everything cool during the heat of the day. The cabin is in a great location for exploring the Taos and surrounding areas. Arroyo Seco has some very interesting shops and great restaurants. The cabin is 5 minutes away and Arroyo Seco has fewer crowds than the Taos downtown district. The cabin is remote from a full scale grocery store so be prepared for a 20 to 30 minute ride into Taos to get everything. My kids loved the downstairs apartment and being able to have their own space. Kitchen is well stocked for cooking and grilling. With a family of five, we had ample room to spread out and enjoy the mountain air and views.

Jamie is an excellent owner and great help with the Taos area activities. He even came by the cabin and shared his thoughts on the hiking, white water rafting, and other outdoor activities. The cabin is stocked with excellent maps of the trials, resorts, and outdoor options.

We would not hesitate to return to El Salto again. Looking forward to another opportunity to visit Northern NM in fall or winter.

Owner's Response: Greetings fellow travelers, As always we owners and managers of Las Posadas El Salto are more than willing to point our guests to the right local spots at the right time, as we all are guides of many sports, trades and activities year round here in northern New Mexico. I was so thrilled to hear from the guests that they had a super rafting adventure down one of the most remote and unchanged wild river canyons in the lower 48 states. When the river flows permit the river running of the Taos box (springtime). It is a thrilling life changing day of whitewater, wilderness & wild life experience and group fun. It is also steeped in the history of Taos pueblo peoples, miners and fascinating geology, wild life, etc. There just aren’t many day rafting trips like this that I can think of that can compare to this sacred special spot in the Rio grande gorge. As our guest has mentioned, the trip into town in the summer months can take a little bit longer than our other seasons in Taos. The down town or plaza area of Taos is a busy small tourist town with sometimes a lot of travelers from other parts of the country. This makes the 8 to 10 mile trip to the plaza or town center about 20 minutes from the property and house or a little more depending on traffic. We are happy to share our locals knowledge with some alternate driving routes for our guests into the Taos Plaza area that save us a little more time when we need to go into town. We also love to do a big food & beverage shop in Taos or Santa Fe that will last us a couple of weeks. That is because once you get situated at the house and property, you will want to relax and stay there as long as possible. Las Posadas El Salto is located in the best area and neighborhood in Taos by far. Safe & happy trails everyone & never stop exploring! Jamie B.

Gem in Aroyo Seco/Taos Ski Valley

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth time renting this property in ten years. It is our favorite place to stay in Taos. It's half way to the ski village, half way to town. Very private, beautiful house. Best amenity is the hot tub. No sharing with other hotel guests! The house is wonderful with a full kitchen and plenty of space to spread out. Fireplace/stove is very cozy on cold nights. Laundry onsite is a HUGE plus. Lower apartment bungalow is great for extra guests. Owner is always around to help. Amazing knowledge of the area and valley. Hiking trails are near by. It feels like home! Beautiful views, stars and more. Can't wait til next year!

Picture Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about Las Posadas El Salto is as advertised! Great views, clean, well maintained and comfortable. My family was there to ski at Taos and this beautiful property was a haven to come home to at the end of each day. The hot tub is pristine and the roof above is great to keep out the snow. The kitchen was super well stocked with every kind of cooking thing you would want to use and there are tons of spices and other things like sugar and oil. Pretty much the basics are there for anyone to use. I love the solar lights around the deck which automatically came on in the evenings making is easy and safe to get up the stairs to the deck to get in the house. The kids had a fun time sledding down the drive after it had just snowed on the sleds that Jamie has available. The brand new stackable Samsung washer and dryer were a lifesaver also. Being there for 5 nights meant one night of doing laundry and it was great to have such fantastic machines with laundry detergent available to get the job done. Jamie was a wonderful host! He was there when we arrived and we saw him once more during our stay making sure we had everything we needed. THE BEST!!! I highly recommend this beautiful property! :)

New washer and dryer with lots of detergent and drying sheets.

Also new jacuzzi ( always on) is big plus to this amazing property.

Wonderful accommodation in special private location

Great place to relax and unwind. We stayed for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the house, hot tub and property. The kitchen is well appointed and a pleasure to cook in. There is lots of care and attention that have been put into this property by the owners such as the artwork collection. We experienced some special needs during our visit and owner Jamie was extremely helpful and supportive. Will definitely return.

Well trained pets (dogs) are allowed for a $150.00 doggie fee. We own dogs as well and we love dogs.We have a few simple rules. No dogs on beds or furniture ever. If you think they can’t resist the temptation. You may bring some sheets with you to put on beds and sofas. It’s alot of extra cleaning no matter what when we have dogs stay at the property. So please be considerate of our few sensible rules when your pets stay with you at the property.
When you plan to leave the property for any reason and plan to leave you pets behind. You must crate them with the dog crates we have at the property or you bring your own.
We have had too many surprises with anxious doggies left inside the new unfamiliar house with free run and doing expensive, irreparable damage to the house furnishings. Please understand our (NO EXCEPTIONS EVER) policy regarding our pet rules and also remember what a privilege it is to be able to bring your pet with you on your visit to Las Posadas El Salto. This is truly doggie paradise.

We have a wood burning stove that is a nice luxury in the mountains in the winter. We have had some unfortunate close calls with guests being careless with the proper way to operate the wood stove. This stove gets very hot and can catch clothing on fire if items are left too close to it, as well as burn anyone not paying attention and accidentally bumping it or touching it. The woodstove rules are posted to the left of the stove on the wall. READ THEM PLEASE.
