Super charming and cozy, in the heart of Bloomington, yet quiet and private!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,067 sq ft
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 4 - 6 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

This comfy, cozy bungalow is the perfect home away from home while enjoying all Indiana University and Bloomington has to offer. It comfortably fits two, is centrally located, minutes away from IU and downtown, and just a 5 minute walk from the famous B-Line trail where you can walk, ride a bike, jog, or skate.

My home is inviting, cheerful, and tranquil. The backyard is private and spacious, and the front porch invites you to simply relax and wave hello to friendly neighbors. Having 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, it is the perfect space for 2 people, whether sharing a room or needing two separate sleeping spaces. There is sufficient space for four people, as both beds (1 is a pull out couch with a super comfortable feather bed and memory foam mattress!) are queen size.

The kitchen went under an entire gutting and complete renovation Spring of 2014, and is fully stocked with all your cooking needs.

The house is warmly decorated with exquisite artwork from all around the globe and there is an extensive book selection for your use while staying at the house.

Guests have access to the entire house. Included is free WIFI, Netflix TV (NO cable), Blue-Ray DVD player, and a washer and dryer.

If you're renting in the summer, there are several backyard games including ladderball, disc toss, target toss, volleyball, badminton and cornhole. They are located in the garage and will require setting up on your part.

Right in the heart of the city, this backyard is also referred to as a wildlife refuge! If you're here in the summer, you will often see groundhogs, bunnies, squirrels hiding their treasures, skunks (an Indiana staple!), butterflies and several different bird species. Sit back, relax and watch the workings of the wildlife.

Conveniently located next door is a brand new indoor climbing wall and yoga studio! They have day passes and several classes for all your exercise needs.

Coming the end of 2019, the newly constructed 65 acre Switchyard Park will be a short 1/2 mile from my house! This park will include a pavilion, stage, community gardens, courts & fitness, splash pad, playground, skate park, and a dog park.

The house is conveniently located to downtown Bloomington and Indiana University. The neighborhood is friendly with a long history in Bloomington. Most of the houses were built from the 1920's to the 1940's, so there is that special feeling of local history. Several books have been written about Bloomington and I.U. during those booming times, and it is easy to trace the McDoel Gardens Neighborhood in several of these publications.

My house is also a short 5 minute walk to the Bloomington famous B-Line Trail.

This trail is perfect for easily accessing the urban part of Bloomington, as well as the rural. Take a 20 minute stroll to our vibrant downtown to enjoy fine eateries, plays/musicals, shops, museums, and parks. Walk in the other direction (southbound) and enjoy the quiet of Monroe County, woods full of Sycamore, Oak, Walnut, Elm and Dogwood trees.

To access the B-Line trail from my house:

1. Depart out the front door and turn left

2. Cross Rogers Street, staying on Allen Street

3. Go left on Madison Street

4. Go right on Dodds Street

5. You will see the Morton Street sign, and there is the B-Line Trail!

The Bloomington Transit bus system is an easy and convenient way to get around town. The bus stop is just a 30 second walk from my house!

Parking your vehicle is included as well, where you can choose from either parking in my 1-car driveway off the backyard, or on Allen Street.

Getting to/from the Indianapolis International airport is easy, and takes about 1 hour. There is a convenient shuttle system if you are without a car.

Depending on the particular interests and needs of the guest, I am flexible and I welcome communication.

Please observe the evening quiet in the neighborhood by not causing any noise that might disturb neighbors.

NO SMOKING inside the house.

The HRB is a beautiful, well kept gem in Bloomington. And Amy is a superb host.

  • 5 of 5

We were visitng Bloomington for an extended weekend and were looking for a true "home away from home" and the HRB was that place. Perfectly located close to campus, near the B-Line trail and shops, the neighborhood was quiet enough to sit in the beautiful, private back yard and listen to the birds. The house itself had everything we needed. Two comfortable bedrooms, great living room and dining room and an excellent kitchen to cook and entertain. Amy, our host, provided detailed instructions and made our arrival super easy. We would recommended her home to any and all and hope to be back soon.

This bungalow was perfect for our extended stay

  • 5 of 5

We were in Bloomington for 2+ weeks. This bungalow thoroughly met our needs. Among all the other accolades, as runners we appreciated the easy access to the B-line trail. We would definitely plan to stay here again when we return to Bloomington.

Delightful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My two sisters and I enjoyed our stay at the bungalow as we spent long days out visiting our relatives and were able to relax and unwind when back home in the evenings. The humidity kept us from spending much time in the lovely back yard but we did enjoy the screened porch in the early mornings. Everything we needed was there and I wish we could have stayed longer. Will be my go to home in Bloomington when I return in the future. Thanks Amy and Niki! Jacki Calais,

Northern California.

A Real Home Away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

The Heartland Bungalow was exactly as advertised, and a perfect place to stay while visiting IU for a month. It provided a quiet place to write during the day, and many different sitting areas outside. A well-stocked Kroger was a half mile walk, so we didn't really need the car very often. We also enjoyed daily walks along the B-line. Wonderful time, and will use it next time we are in Bloomington.

Truly a home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Amy's bungalow is a fabulous place to stay if you're visiting Bloomington. I love the location, especially its proximity to Hopscotch Coffee on Dodds. I also realized this stay, that Amy's house is smack in the middle of the McDoel Historic District. There are lots of Sears Craftsman kit homes to see, as well as other period homes. That was a real treat to discover this visit.

Amy also made some changes to her home including a screened in porch off the master bedroom. That room was used a lot! It was just perfect for morning coffe and reading the paper.

This is my go to place when visiting B-town. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!

A Perfect Experience

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely home! Amy skipped no detail when it came to making sure my stay at Heartland Roots Bungalow was nothing less than perfect. Her complete renovation of this wonderful bungalow is nicely done. Her taste is very eclectic and all is designed for comfort. Her kitchen is fully equipped; there was nothing more that I needed. She has a strong wifi connection and her tv is large and of good quality. The neighborhood was very quiet making sitting out in the back very comfortable. Her Property Manager Mark was very good about making sure I understood the security system; I appreciated that very much. I would absolutely, without hesitation recommend Amy's house, whether short or long term. When I return to Bloomington, this will be the first property check!
