This comfy, cozy bungalow is the perfect home away from home while enjoying all Indiana University and Bloomington has to offer. It comfortably fits two, is centrally located on a quiet street, minutes away from IU and downtown, and just a 5 minute walk from the infamous B-Line trail.
My home is inviting, cheerful, and tranquil. The backyard is private and spacious, and the front porch invites you to simply relax and wave hello to friendly neighbors. Having 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, it is the perfect space for 2 people, whether sharing a room or needing two separate sleeping spaces. There is sufficient space for four people, as both beds (1 is a pull out couch, with a super comfortable egg crate and feather bed!) are queen size.
The kitchen went under an entire gutting and complete renovation Spring of 2014, and is fully stocked with all your cooking needs.
The house is warmly decorated with exquisite artwork from all around the globe and there is an extensive book selection for your use while staying at the house.
Guests have access to the entire house. Included is free WIFI, TV (Netflix), Blue-Ray DVD player, and a washer and dryer.
I am always available via email, and I have a local property manager who can assist you with any of your needs. I rent the entire house when I am away for work. I do not rent it when I am home.
This neighborhood is quiet, serene, and friendly. It is conveniently located to downtown Bloomington and Indiana University. Most of the houses were built from the 1920's to the 1940's, so there is that extraordinary feeling of history. Several books have been written about Bloomington and I.U. during those booming times, and it is easy to trace the McDoel Gardens Neighborhood in several of these publications.
My house is also a short 5 minute walk to the Bloomington infamous B-Line Trail.
This trail is perfect for easily accessing the urban part of Bloomington, as well as the rural. Take a 20 minute stroll to our vibrant downtown to enjoy fine eateries, plays/musicals, shops, museums, and parks. Walk in the other direction (southbound) and enjoy the quiet of Monroe County, woods full of Sycamore, Oak, Walnut, Elm and Dogwood trees.
To access the B-Line trail from my house:
1. Depart out the front door and turn left
2. Cross Rogers Street, staying on Allen Street
3. Go left on Madison Street
4. Go right on Dodds Street
5. You will see the Morton Street sign, and there is the B-Line Trail!
The Bloomington Transit bus system is an easy and convenient way to get around town. The bus stop is just a 30 second walk from my house!
Parking your vehicle is included as well, where you can choose from either parking in my 1-car driveway off the backyard, or on Allen Street, directly in front of the house.
Getting to/from the Indianapolis International airport is easy, and takes about 1 hour. There is a convenient shuttle system if you are without a car.
Depending on the particular interests and needs of the guest, I am flexible and I welcome communication.
Please observe the evening quiet in the neighborhood by not causing any noise that might disturb neighbors.
NO SMOKING inside the house.
I am a white water rafting, whale loving, theatre artist and teacher who travels the world to teach young minds, guide outdoor adventures, and mitigate for marine endangered species!
I grew up in Bloomington and graduated from IU, and after spending 20 years away, returned in 2012 to reconnect with my roots.
I am an avid outdoors enthusiast, evident by my experience as a white water rafting guide, a sea kayaking guide and US Coast Guard civilian boat captain.
I am currently working to support scientific research at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
I rent my home when I am away for work. I have a local property manager who is available to assist you at any time.
I welcome you to my home, and am happy to answer any questions about restaurants, the arts, IU, and the greater Bloomington area.
Amy Brummit purchased this bungalow in 2012
We loved the house, very comfortable and cozy. I love old bugalows and the neighborhood is quiet. It was easy to get to IU and downtown. The kitchen was well stocked. The master bedroom was very comfortable and the bath towels very soft. I would recommend this home to a family of 2 - 4 people. I would certainly stay here again when I come to visit family.
My husband and I recently spent a month in Bloomington, IN at the Heartland Roots Bungalow. Simply said, it was wonderful. Great curb appeal, very cute inside and out. Spacious for two, beautiful kitchen, bathroom, very comfortable bed. The location is perfect! Quiet neighborhood close to so much. The owner and her property manager were helpful, friendly and great to deal with. The price was extremely reasonable. My favorite thing about the house was that it is someones real home, lots of interesting books and art pieces from around the world. So many properties are staged for renters and feel cold and impersonal; not the Heartland Roots Bungalow, it's warm, inviting and very clean. I highly recommend it!
We enjoyed our stay at Heartland Roots Bungalow very much. The location is perfect for walking to restaurants, coffee, the farmers market, grocery stores, etc. The neighborhood is quiet and eclectic. The house itself is warm and inviting. We loved the cozy bed and the open, well appointed kitchen. The front porch was great for morning coffee and afternoon tea. Mark (the property manager) and Amy (the owner) were wonderful to work with as we arranged our stay. Mark even went out of his way to send us a hat we forgot when we left town. We highly recommend Heartland Roots Bungalow to anyone looking for a home away from home in beautiful Bloomington.
We fell in love with the Heartland Roots Bungalow as soon as we saw the picture at Home Away. When we arrived it was even better. The house was spotlessly clean, the furnishings were comfortable and attractive, and the quiet neighborhood were all just what we needed during our stay. We especially enjoyed the interesting items from all around the world.
The property manager was congenial and helpful. His welcoming touches were appreciated.
We are former Bloomington residents and plan to return, hopefully next year. This home will be our model when we begin our search for our own new home.
In addition to visiting with family and friends, and walking on campus, we enjoyed eating at The Runcible Spoon, The Village Deli, The Farm, Colorado Steak House, and Samira.
Our only regret was our stay was not long enough to take advantage of all the wonderful books.
We recommend, without reservation, a stay at the Heartland Roots Bungalow.
Absolutely perfect house for a weekend over my sons graduation. The house was perfectly stocked with amenities and had many interesting books and pictures to look at. The back yard was perfect for a family gathering and the rooms were very comfortable. If we come back to Bloomington, we will try to stay here first!
Spending a month in Heartland Roots was like visiting in the home of a friend. Amenities of the clean, well-maintained house included a wall of books, a well-lighted and furnished kitchen, and furnishings from around the world. The porch and well-maintained yard (with birds and rabbits) afforded enjoyment of the out-of-doors, and proximity to the B-line trail provided exercise and accessibility to events at the university.
