Kihei Estate Rental Photos and Description

Tranquil Beach Front Luxury With Gated Entrance, 5 Private Suites & Fruit Grove

Blessed by kaunas, 'aloha aku' means the place that ‘gives love and kindness'. Formally known as Aikane Hale.

AlohaAKU Inn & Suites is a tucked away, one-of-a-kind vacation gem. Our luxury oceanside estate has 4 beachfront one-bedroom suites and a garden view two-bedroom ohana. Each suite has a private entrance, seperate living room, full kitchen and is like having your own condo at the beach in Maui. This special place is hidden behind a private, double gated entrance, lined with 700 ft of lighted coconut palms that lure you into the feeling of leaving the world behind. But is still centrally placed in Kihei nearly all of the amenities you might desire.

Guests have described AlohaAKU as ‘the most tranquil and ultimate place for relaxation’! You can’t help but feel the peacefulness of Maui's beauty wash over you here. The beach in front of AlohaAKU is only lightly traveled. Sometimes it's like having your own private beach. Hidden beside the tallest mangrove forest in the state, you will be pleasantly greeted with an extravaganza of natural hawaiian beauty.

AlohaAKU lulls you into a wondrous state of being, yet is located in the ultimate location for access to the many conveniences in mid-kihei. And it’s well placed to be your base of operations to explore the rest of the maui island.

Just twenty minutes from the airport, we are within easy walking distance of nearby groceries, shopping, restaurants, bar-pubs, car rental, dive shops, and much, much more. When guests return to the property they say it ‘feels like home’. Some never leave the property during their visit, happy to just lounge around and suntan from their private lanai or on the beach out front!

Your hosts, Charlene (maui-girl) and Gary (g-kane), have upgraded all the suites to include air conditioning, ceiling fans, free high speed wi-fi, free designated on property parking, key codes for everything (no keys or key cards to worry about), flat screen hdtvs with DirecTv in the living room and in the separate bedrooms. Warm up a snack or make yourself a full meal in your suite's nicely outfitted full kitchen. In addition there is a gas barbeque on site nestled between some acacia palm trees overlooking the protected wetland pond.

We can’t wait to host you and see your happy faces. We hope that you will find that AlohaAKU has the intimacy, amenities, and ohana to be your favorite luxury getaway. Maui is considered one of top vacation destinations in the world and after staying at AlohaAKU we are confident that you will have your own special reasons why!

About Charlene and Gary

Aloha from Charlene and Gary.

A little about us.

Char was raised on Maui just a few miles up the beach from Aloha AKU and went to grade school and to St. Anthony’s High School on Maui. Her family also lives here on the island so she and they have seen a lot of changes on Maui over the years. After high school Char left for College at Santa Clara University and majored in TV Production and French. After College she moved the LA and began a carrier in the Entertainment Industry doing everything from modeling to acting and from Producing, Directing and Writing to finally running Production and Entertainment companies.

Ok, so she played Hollywood. Gary has also had a good life having lived in many parts of the country having followed a very successful career in High Tech. He has been a key contributor to Ethernet, Computer analyzed EKG systems, founded a start up Telecommunications product company in Silicon Valley, and ran a $70M per year high tech company in LA. He has always seen himself living on an island and meeting Char 20 years ago was just the ticket to get him to Maui.

So a few years ago this LA couple decided that the time had come to leave the Merry-go-round of their respective businesses and buy a place on Maui and “come home”. So here they are, living the “maui life” as active members of the local community and on many non-profit boards and are supporting many worthy causes. And they decided to create Aloha AKU Inn & Suites and offer a fun, laid back Maui beach experience to fun, laid back and interesting people.

Please join us and enjoy MAUI !

Best Vacation of our Lives

  • 5 of 5

We have travelled to many places in our lives (at age over 55). This was the BEST VACATION EVER! The sound of the ocean, the beautiful sandy beach, clean pool and hot tub and manicured grounds made it perfect.

Char and Gary are the best hosts and made our entire visit enjoyable.

Linda's home baked breads and the juice and milk with coffee provided made our mornings much easier (and tastier). Our family surprised us with dinner on the beach cooked by Chef Aris. It was delicious and one of the best meals I have ever tasted.

We will definitely recommend Aloha Aku to all of our friends and family.

Great Spot on the Beach!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 5 nights here in late November, and would highly recommend it to anyone. The unit itself was very comfortable and well-outfitted, and Char/Gary were very friendly and helpful hosts. The provided snacks/quick breakfasts made getting settled very easy, and the location is amazing. Private, sheltered, and right on the beach. The bed was comfy, shower was great, and all of the available water toys/bikes/etc really made it easy to enjoy ourselves without even getting in the rental car.

Would definitely return to Aloha Aku on our next trip to Maui - loved the Kihei area compared to the west side and couldn't ask for anything more in a reasonably-priced spot. Thanks Gary and Char!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Aloha AKU was the perfect place for us. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon its listing in the VBRO site, but when I found it, it seemed too good to be true. I kept coming back to the site to see if I had overlooked some flaw. It was exactly what we were looking for - a quiet, private, beautiful setting we could enjoy almost by ourselves at reasonable price. It turned out to be better than we could have imagined. The accommodations and the setting were exactly as advertised. But, the hospitality was beyond what we ever expected. Char greeted us when we drove up, showed us around, invited us to use their sporting equipment, library, exercise equipment and videos, and told us she had stocked our refrigerator with some goodies and let us know where we could find more. She made our trip so easy - from use of the on-premise barbecue for cooking dinner to use of a cooler for off-premise picnic lunches, and more. We had a wonderful home base from which to explore the island and return to in the late afternoon to enjoy the spectacular sunset and magnificent choir of birds in the trees adjacent to the property. We had an amazing time on Maui that we will cherish for many years to come - it was definitely staying at Aloha AKU that made it extra special for us.

Special place: location, comfort, and, hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Even before we left on the trip, we had a good feeling that we had located a unique place to stay during our vacation to Maui. And after a fantastic 10-day visit, I'll claim some authority in asserting that Aloha Aku is both unique and special, a gem that confirmed our expectations and left us feeling lucky to have landed so well on our first visit.

It starts with the charm and hospitality of the place. The hosts Char and Gary are warm, sincere, and amiable. They were easy to reach and good communicators, so all the visit arrangements were handled with ease. During arrival, stay, and departure, they were so considerate to our needs that I'd compare them with my best relatives. Their personal charm resonates with that of the property, which is well designed and impeccably maintained. From the beautiful, palm-lined entry drive, to the entry court with its central fountain, to the wading pool and manicured lawn fronting the beach, the property welcomes you and cares about you just as well as the hosts do. The hosts and the property imbue one another with great qualities, all of which seem channeled into hospitality for their guests.

The property is also special in how it is situated on the beach. To start , the beach beside Kihei is very well connected and you can stroll more conveniently, for a longer distance, than you could on many other beach strips on the island. But even at that, Aloha Aku is special in having a nice situation with shade trees overhanging both its lawn and the adjacent beach, to make it nice to jump out into the water to play, and then to relax in the shade on the beach or beside it on the lawn. Look up and down this long stretch of beaches, and you'll not find such a comforting combination of attributes almost any other place. And I'd have to say that the sea turtles share the opinion, because they just love the water behind Aloha Aku and seem to favor it as a place to swim and feed and peek at the visitors when they come up for air.

To highlight one experience, I must write about barbecuing just before sunset at the property's gas grill. The barbecue stands along the palm-lined drive, and it faces the adjacent nature reserve, with a small creek and mangrove trees lining the opposite side of the creek. As the sun sets in the west, it reflects with golden light along the creek, the birds in the reserve take up a chorus of chirping and singing, and it all makes a wonderful backdrop to a relaxing evening.

We spent 14 amazing days in this beautiful condo! Kihei is the best town on Maui and this is the best place to stay! I was able to fully disengage with the real world and relax in this beautiful beach front condo. The condo was very clean and I enjoyed my morning coffee on the patio while enjoying the beautiful view. The spa was amazing. They thought of all the amenities from breakfast food to everything for kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, beach chairs, coolers, towels, and games. Kihei is centrally located on Maui so that anywhere we wanted to go is a half hour away. I can't wait to go back to Maui and I would highly recommend staying in this beautiful paradise! Thanks Gary and Char for making our vacation a great experience.

What a gem!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned after 9 days at Alohaaku in the Bamboo Suite. I can't say enough about how lovely and completely relaxing our experience was. While this is usually an adults-only property, we made an inquiry since we were traveling with our 11 year old son. As it turned out relatives of the owner with two boys were also staying during our time, so it was possible (and the boys were all on good behavior and had a blast). The 4 suites are on the first floor, the Bamboo being an interior suite next to the common area. Basic breakfast groceries are provided and the kitchen in each suite is complete with full size appliances. There is a Time grocery store less than a block away that has a terrific fresh fish selection. The bed and pull out futon were both comfortable. There is a large library of both books and movies. Virtually any beach/exercise amenity is available including kayaks, paddle boards, bicycles, snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc. The property is next to a small protected area (brackish stream/swamp) on one side and the boys enjoyed bamboo pole fishing and catching golden tilapia with pieces of bread. The beach is perfect - wide enough to build a big sand castle, but small enough and close to the condo to feel like it's your private beach front. Green turtles come through in the early morning and we kayaked among them on a few occasions - awesome! The water is very shallow for a long way out into the bay area, but gets rocky, so you'll want to bring water shoes. The view is spectacular and every sunset was incredible. Some of the best cheap restaurants on Maui are very close including Coconuts and Eskimo Candy. You can (and we did) pay top dollar at places like Mama's and Morimoto's, but we found that you are paying for the experience and a fancier presentation (which is enjoyable), but the quality of the fish is just as high at the cheaper places. While the snorkeling on the property is fun, we found great spots with great coral reefs and a huge variety of fish just down the coast at Ula, Makena Landing, and especially the Dumps in the Ahhihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve. If you are looking for a truly exceptional, exclusive Maui experience away from the hustle of tourist heavy hotels and large condo complexes, Alohaaku is the place for you!
