The generous space and "the owners thought of everything' can be your base of operations for cruising the island or just your tranquil getaway space. Wander across the grassy reserve land and keep an eye out for the turtles resting on the sand or grab a kayak and paddle out to see these magnificent watery friends swimming in their natural environment.

Blessed by Kaunas, Aloha Aku means the place that ‘gives love and kindness’. Formally known as Aikane Hale.

AlohaAKU Inn & Suites is a tucked away, one-of-a-kind vacation gem. Our luxury beachfront and State Protected wetlands estate has 4 beachfront one-bedroom suites and a garden view two-bedroom 'ohana. Each suite has a private entrance, seperate living room, full kitchen and is like having your own condo at the beach in Maui. This special place is hidden behind a private, double gated entrance, lined with 700 ft. of lighted coconut palms that lure you into the feeling of leaving the world behind. Yet it is still centrally placed in Kihei nearly all of the amenities you might desire.

Guests have described AlohaAKU as ‘the most tranquil and ultimate place for relaxation’! You can’t help but feel the peacefulness of Maui's beauty wash over you here. The beach in front of AlohaAKU is only lightly traveled. Sometimes it's like having your own private beach. Hidden beside the tallest mangrove forest in the state, you will be pleasantly greeted with an extravaganza of natural hawaiian beauty.

AlohaAKU lulls you into a wondrous state of being, yet is located in the ultimate location for access to the many conveniences in mid-kihei. And it’s well placed to be your base of operations to explore the rest of Maui.

Just twenty minutes from the airport, we are within easy walking distance of nearby groceries, shopping, restaurants, bar-pubs, car rental, dive shops, and much, much more. When guests return to the property they say it ‘feels like home’. Some never leave the property during their visit, happy to just lounge around and suntan from their private lanai or on the beach out front!

Your hosts, Charlene (maui-girl) and Gary (G-kane), have upgraded all the suites to include air conditioning, ceiling fans, free high speed Wi-Fi, free designated on property parking, key codes for everything (no keys or key cards to worry about), flat-screen hdtvs with DirecTV in the living room and in the separate bedrooms. Warm up a snack or make yourself a full meal in your suite's nicely outfitted full kitchen. In addition there is a gas barbeque on site nestled between some acacia palm trees overlooking the wetland pond.

We can’t wait to host you and see your happy faces. We hope that you will find that AlohaAKU has the intimacy, amenities, and aloha to be your favorite luxury getaway. Maui is considered one of top vacation destinations in the world and after staying at Aloha Aku we are confident that you will have your own special reasons why!

About Charlene and Gary

Aloha from Charlene and Gary.

A little about us.

Char was raised on Maui just a few miles up the beach from Aloha AKU and went to grade school and to St. Anthony’s High School on Maui. Her family also lives here on the island so she and they have seen a lot of changes on Maui over the years. After high school Char left for College at Santa Clara University and majored in TV Production and French. After College she moved the LA and began a carrier in the Entertainment Industry doing everything from modeling to acting and from Producing, Directing and Writing to finally running Production and Entertainment companies.

Ok, so she played Hollywood. Gary has also had a good life having lived in many parts of the country having followed a very successful career in High Tech. He has been a key contributor to Ethernet, Computer analyzed EKG systems, founded a start up Telecommunications product company in Silicon Valley, and ran a $70M per year high tech company in LA. He has always seen himself living on an island and meeting Char 20 years ago was just the ticket to get him to Maui.

So a few years ago this LA couple decided that the time had come to leave the Merry-go-round of their respective businesses and buy a place on Maui and “come home”. So here they are, living the “maui life” as active members of the local community and on many non-profit boards and are supporting many worthy causes. And they decided to create Aloha AKU Inn & Suites and offer a fun, laid back Maui beach experience to fun, laid back and interesting people.

Please join us and enjoy MAUI !

An Amazing 25th Wedding Anniversary

  • 5 of 5

Our trip to the Aloha Aku Honu Suite, was nothing short of amazing. Everything you read on the site is 100% accurate. Starting with the drive into the villa with its shaded palm trees you feel like you’re on the set of some famous movie scene. Upon opening our door to our suite, we were greeted with a bottle of wine, treats and a warm welcome note to help us celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary

The views, the beach the hot tub, and friendly locals (as in feathered friends from the bird sanctuary and the local Turtles) added to our stay. The suite itself was comfy-cozy with everything you need available, from filtered water, milk, juice and most condiments in the common fridge. Char and Garry also provide amble suggestions and information on places to go for tours and for eating out in Char’s Recipe book.

My only regret was that we did not get a chance to meet our hosts Char and Gary in person. We did chat with the Management, and Maintenance staff a few times and they were fabulous, and provided some great advice, which led to an awesome day.

We used the Paddle boards, kayak, and the bikes to tour the town, such great add on items.

The only issue I want to mention is, because the suite, beach and location are so enjoyable it was tough to leave the grounds to go on other Maui adventures. It’s tough to go elsewhere when you’re about 20 steps from door to such an amazing relaxed beach.

All in all, I highly recommend the Aloha Aku Honu Suite, and am sure we will back.

Thanks for making our anniversary extra special.

Owner's Response: We're soooo sorry we didn't get a chance to say 'Aloha' personally, just been too busy (obviously) with multiple non-profit organizations we work with on Maui. We need a vacation from our vacation place...LOL. Please come back soon and we'll offer a return guest discount! Mahalo for the lovely 5-star review. We appreciate it. Char & Gary

Beautiful spot on the beach

  • 4 of 5

The location couldn’t be better, facing into the sunset on the beach. The accommodations are very nice but showing their age. Even with a full time maintenance man for the 5 unit the place is showing its age. The breakfast consists of pre-frozen muffins and buns or cereal and refrigerated fruit. There are plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas and tons of used beach toys. The staff, like almost everyone in Maui is friendly and helpful, especially Linda. It is not a party venue which is good for an older clientele like us. Overall, for the price it is a very good place to stay.

Owner's Response: Linda's homemade banana & mango breads along with papaya granola-mixes are most guests favorites! Our tropical climate requires some fresh fruits to be refrigerated. Yogurts, juices, coffee, tea, milk, oatmeal (including additional pastries, muffins & cereals) are put in each Suite's refrigerator upon check-in. Our Common Area's subzero refrigerator/freezer is kept stocked with extra Continental-breakfast goodies for guests who want more whenever they want. Times Supermarket (1-block away) and our fully-equipped kitchens makes hot breakfasts easy if preferred. The amazing ocean breezes keeps us happy to immediately replace or fix anything needs attention! Glad that Wade was even able to help with your rental car! Mahalo, Char & Gary

Beautiful ocean front relaxing spot with outstanding sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

I honestly don't know what more I could ask for in a rental property. The space is beautiful and quiet. The suite was much larger than I expected. The beach is so close, we loved having the windows open and falling asleep/waking up to the sound of the ocean. We enjoyed a circuit of dipping in the ocean with the turtles, relaxing in the pool/hot tub, and reading on our lanai before rinse, wash, repeating. We never even got around to all the other amenities on hand like the paddle boards, bikes, boogie boards, etc., but made full use of all the beach chairs, mats, etc. With everything so close at hand, it made enjoying the beach extremely easy and this particular stretch of beach stayed quiet the duration of our trip, nearly private. Full cable access with premium channels so we even got to stay up to date with our favorite Sunday night programs. Grocery store next door, bar-muda triangle 5 minute drive, we will definitely stay here again.

We arrived early and the room was already ready. We started in the suite which is roomy and has an awesome lanai and it is so quiet. The views are the greenery around the lanai. As much as we loved that we were very happy when we moved to the Hana suite. This one is smaller but it faces the ocean. Morning, evening, mid day the ocean is always just a glance away.

We made a lot of use of the kayaks, the snorkel gear, the chairs and the hot tub. We thought about using the golf clubs, but I don't do full courses and there are no par three so we managed to do without golf.

Linda, Wade, Jose, Char and Gary are there to make your vacation great. Any question or request was answered quickly and with a smile. I mentioned the tea was getting low and next day there was plenty to choose from. Coffee drinkers have lots of choices, always!!!

The rooms are clean, the grounds are maintained, the pool is all you need to sit and watch the sunset or read a book. The beach is a short walk across the grass and we spent plenty of time playing in the water, walking up and down the coast, paddling out and surfing back in. We found the double kayak a real tub and preferred the singles. Not many others used these so they were always there when we wanted to go out. Some days were calm and some windy, but never a bad day.

The first day there we saw the turtles who make their home along this stretch and then we saw a shark. The black dorsal fin moved back and forth off the beach for about 15 minutes, but that was the only time we saw one. The water was a little murky here most of the time, but we found other places to snorkel for the fish.

We enjoyed the cereal, fruit, yoghurt and baked goods for breakfast and grabbed some groceries from the Times market and Safeway and did our own cooking. The two nights we ate out we walked out to Na Lu's and Coconuts we were stuffed to the gills with very good food.

This location is very central to exploring all areas of the Island and we did just that. I left my book in the library for someone else and we found a few movies to pop into the DVD player as we were not big night life fans. We would rather take advantage of the early morning sunshine and get on the road or the beach.

We also enjoyed the bioluminescence on the beach at night, the quiet star gazing away from all the light pollution, the frogs/toads on the lawn at night and watching the kids Ukulele class on the beach. So much to enjoy just steps from your door.

This Place is Amazing

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this property for our 10th wedding anniversary. We split our trip up 4 nights in Kanapali and 4 nights in Kihei. I have told all of my friends and anyone who ask for a place to stay in Maui about Aloha Aku. It is truly the most relaxing getaway you could ask for. The journey begins when you drive up he long driveway and this magnificent property opens up at the end. It only gets better from there. We chose one of the rooms on the end. This in my opinon was the best. The patio opens up to the waves crashing on the beach. This property exceeded all of my expectation. If you are lucky enough to be traveling to Maui and find yourself in Kihei than stay in one of the 4 ocean front rooms. The only downside (if that is possible) was that the beach was far more windy than our stay in Kanapali. Also the water in Kihei was not nearly as clear as the beach in Kanapali. Other than that if you are looking to reconnect and relax look no farther.

Everything and more!

  • 5 of 5

We didn't think it was possible to enjoy our stay more but we did! This is our second time staying at AlohaAKU and we have already booked for next year! When we arrived we were greeted by Linda who welcomed us like old friends. We had requested the same suite and it felt like coming home with all the attention to detail that Gary and Char provide. We immediately noticed that things had been added and done to make our stay even better. If you're looking for peaceful mornings, walks on the beach, books to read, movies to watch and sunsets to remember, this is the place for you. The location is perfect. Very close to Maa 'alea Harbor for Whale Watching and the Aquarium and you'll pass a wildlife refuge on your back that has a wonderful boardwalk. The drive to LaHaina is a short drive with beautiful scenery and a stop along the highway provides beautiful views of the ocean and whale watching. Grocery shopping is close as well and you mustn't forget Eululani's Shave Ice! We visited the Maui Tropical Plantation which is only 20 minutes away and you could spend hours there walking and feeding the ducks. We took the tram and learned the art of cutting open a coconut. We ate dinner at the Mill House there another night and it was excellent. Most nights we stayed in so as not to miss the beautiful sunsets from the lanai or lawn area and to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of AlohaAKU. The accommodations go above and beyond what we want in a real vacation. For us, this has everything and more!
