About David Congleton
I retired to Sedona in 2004, after renting here 8 times! I know the area inside & out, and purchased this home for something to do and for retirement income. We try to keep the rates reasonable and consider this to be a great value, with privacy, centrality, absence of traffic or noise, off the beaten path yet within blocks of all the activity you could want. And if you don't know, Sedona is considered a hiker's & mountain bikers' paradise. And...a singular destination for spirituality seekers everywhere. [Be sure to visit Sedona Creative Life Center on Shnebly Road].
David Congleton purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why David Congleton chose Sedona
We have installed all new windows, floors, carpets, furnishings, beds --- all within the past five years. When you walk in, it should feel, well .... new! Everything works ... and if it doesn't we fix it! The whole place still has a 'new' feeling that is palpable. And very artsy - not a sterile rental....much of the art displayed was painted or carved by myself or my partner, Allison. you will feel like you are in a home... away from home.
What makes this Cottage unique
If you prefer a southwestern 'homey' stay, and golf resorts are not your thing, this is the place for you ... colorful, well appointed, comfortable & inspiring. Decorated & Maintained by an Artist!

First time VRBO users! AWESOME!
Hi, this was our first experience of booking a vacation useing VRBO! We do admit it was an awesome experience! Everything from start to finish went flawlessly. The place we stayed, Sedona Spice was awesome, the views, the owner, the cleanliness and the location, couldn't have been any better. Even the weather was just about perfect for that time of year. We loved everything about the place, a great plus was the fullwall fireplace with an endless supply of chopped wood, it was awesome, fire every night! Can't say enough good things about our stay there, other than we'll be back!!! Sincerely Rod H. & Linda L. Thanks again David C.
We did not hear a peep from you two the whole time you were there, and then this!!
Thank you for your words and for taking such good care of the place.
You mention our "Cleanliness" and that is something we pride ourselves on, but you and Rod were so clean I asked the housekeeper for a discount! Nobody ever left the fireplace clean before -- not since 2012 when we got on vrbo.
Of course you did exaggerate a little -- the fireplace is not "full wall" it is only eight feet wide and eight feet high. And we don't have an "endless" supply of chopped wood -- it is only one cord, high mountain oak, and I enjoy splitting some of it into kindling with my maul. I so love a real wood fire, and I have noticed that most men are pyromaniacs to one degree or another, and that big fireplace with slate facia is one big reason I bought that house.
In secret, you confided that the coffee maker was too slow. So... I brought it home and used it and you were right -- we have ordered a BonaVita, a high-tech beauty that pre-heats the coffee grounds and then steam-brews the best 10 cups of java you've ever had -- in about 3.5 minutes!! Expensive but worth it.
See there? Your honesty leads to paying it forward for others.... thanks again Linda.
Sweet Sedona Spice
We spent a week at Sedona Spice and it couldn't have been a better choice for us during our stay in Sedona. We would plan our adventure each day with coffee on the spacious deck, looking out at the amazing view. We enjoyed returning to the deck after a day of hiking in the beautiful canyons that Sedona is so famous for. We rarely left Sedona Spice in the evening as it was so comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed making our own dinners - no need to fight the spring break dinner crowds in town!! We had a great time and we were sad to leave but have great memories. I see Sedona Spice in our future!!
Thanks Marie, for that great summary of your stay.... you made good use of those walking sticks & I would like to see the pictures you took on your hikes... it's kind of funny that you were too content to go out in the evening, but you did accidentally pick the week when all the kids are out of school .... please come back and try us in January or May!
Amazing views, comfortable home!
Sedona Spice is a wonderful place to stay! We spent three weeks in March here and had a great time. First there is the view from the living room windows - it's there in the morning when the sun comes up and as the light changes throughout the day, the play of color on the rocks is unbelievable. My favorite time was sunset; Reid's was late afternoon; but it's beautiful all day long.
The house itself, from the couches to the bed, is comfy and relaxing. Having the laundry facilities just across the breezeway is convenient, at least at this time of year. The location of the house is also a plus, as you can avoid most of the traffic of Sedona when you are driving from the south by turning left onto Forest and driving up the hill into the neighborhood, bypassing all those cars. This location, set above the town, makes the house a quiet place to stay. In addition, whenever we had a question, Dave was more than willing to help! I don't think you can beat Sedona Spice if you are looking for a nice place in Sedona to enjoy what the area has to offer!
Reid & Melissa,
I truly believe that you folks are some of the nicest and most considerate that we have ever had.... you were so understanding about the little flap with the furnace [nothing works perfectly all the time, does it, even a new one], and your professional photography is superlative.... with your prior permission I have posted a few on our HomeAway site, crediting you of course.... I was perfectly willing to compensate you for such obvious talent, but I accept your generous gift and hope you will return next year for the same three weeks!
Great location and views of Snoopy Rock in quiet Uptown Sedona neighborhood. Close to many scenic hiking trails and fine restaurants. Ten minutes away from Sedona Film Festival venues. Well-maintained and very comfortable two-bedroom home for our party of four adults. We thoroughly enjoyed our one-week stay and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Sedona.
Scott, thank you, and also for pointing out we went to school within twenty miles of one another, in down-state Illinois.
It is good to get confirmation that our 2-bedroom place can accomodate 4 adults comfortably.
Although I have never attended the Sedona International Film Festival, I have certainly noticed the inundation of traffic it brings with it!
Many visitors come here for such events, including dozens of spiritual growth programs at Creative Life Center, Enchantment Resort & the Sedona Art Center.
We feel very lucky to live here, in the middle of all this!!
Thanks again..... Dave
Sedona Spice - Home Away From Home!
We just returned from our first trip to Sedona last week. It was the first trip in a while that exceeded all of our expectations. Of course, the beauty of Sedona is remarkable. Beyond that, what really made the trip special was our stay at Sedona Spice. Besides experiencing the post card views from the house and decks, the cleanliness and comfort of the accommodations are really outstanding. Although you are only two blocks from "Uptown", Sedona Spice is very quiet and easily accessible to all parts of the area including some beautiful hikes no more than 5 minutes away. Creature comforts at the house include:
-convenient washer & dryer
-two great full bathrooms
-fully appointed kitchen
-very comfortable living area w/satellite TV
and did I mention the view!
Don't miss dining at The Creekside and The Hudson and the short drive to Indian Gardens for coffee/breakfast. Happy Hours everywhere!
Thanks you , David, for a great stay at Sedona Spice
Already missing Sedona
We had lots of fun with you and Liz & Lynn at the Hudson, and very much want you to come back! I am humbly grateful for your effusive review. We have been blessed with so many fine people staying in recent years, but your family ranks high in the pantheon.
Wonderfully decorated, comfortable home with beautiful red rock views.
Sedona Spice was a great home base while vacationing in Sedona. We especially enjoyed the open concept kitchen/living room combination, with huge windows and great views ! We loved watching the Olympics in the cozy seating area with the TV . The beds were super comfy and the bathrooms were great- plenty of hot water. We appreciated all the little extras, such as the umbrella and the styrofoam cooler, as we enjoy taking a little lunch on our hikes. We have stayed in several homes in Sedona in the past, and this was our favorite. We will be back. Thank you, David, for providing us with such a beautiful home!
Dale, you are more than welcome, and since we have corresponded after your visit, you know we want you back!
You did me an especially big favor by noticing a tiny hairline crack in the bathroom sink that had been invisibly leaking into the vanity and threatening to ruin it.
Thanks to your fine eye, we have replaced the sink & saved the vanity!
I somehow know you guys will return next winter .... Peace
On its own, Sedona is well known around the world, considering its population is only around 11.000 residents. The city has an image as a mystical & spiritual red rock tourist community; a popular destination for hikers, vacationers, artists, yogi's, and those seeking health and healing. Now Sedona is emergin as a culinary destination thanks to the Hudson, Mariposa, Creekside and other delights. Uptown Sedona is closest to the red rocks & hogs the best views... stunning vistas and cathedral-like mountains, nearby. The downside is that it is a 10-minute drive to groceries and drugstores. Sedona Spice is located in the very heart of the excitement, and yet you will find it to be quiet and out of the way. No noisy traffic and nobody parking in your front yard. Come and See!!
