Thank you for allowing me to enjoy your home. It was a peaceful and relaxing week-end.
I hope to come back again.
The house and location are lovely: seals popping their heads up, western exposure, and a gorgeous, well-maintained home. The master bedroom is especially nice, with big windows and a view of the stars from from bed. The owner was prompt and professional throughout the booking process.
Unfortunately our family (me, my wife, and 3 1/2 year old son) had an interaction with the owner that was so unpleasant it kind of spoiled our last day of vacation.
Full disclosure: we failed to read contract closely after a multi-house vacation and broke some of the rules. We were still there eating breakfast when the owner arrived 30 minutes after checkout time, and we'd invited two friends and their four-year old daughter to stay overnight in an extra room the night before (some houses I've rented had a flat rate, and I'd assumed that was OK here as long as the house remained in good condition).
Mr. Moberg arrived at around 11:30 on check-out day, announced that the next guests were arriving soon, and that we'd violated the contract. We apologized, promised to leave immediately, and to pay for the extra guests. His response was to get in my face, accuse me of deliberately breaking the rules and ignoring his communications (pro tip: there is no T-Mobile reception at this location), and then hover over us, scoffing, rolling his eyes, and making sarcastic comments ("Is that where you found the kayak paddle? IS IT?"). All this while we were frantically packing out and trying to manage two preschoolers. Oh, and at the end when I asked him when I asked what I could do to make things right, he insisted I decide my own punishment like a misbehaving child. I offered $50, which he later took from my security deposit. I got the feeling he was enjoying humiliating me in front of my friends and family.
I want to emphasize that at this point nothing was missing, nothing was broken, the place was clean, we were paid-up, and the next tenants were nowhere in sight.
I get it, we inconvenienced Mr. Moberg and he had a right to be annoyed, even charge us more money. But he was so angry—literally quivering with rage. I could not understand it.
ps. I'm trying to be completely accurate here, so here are the rest of my sins, in case they come up...I wore my shoes in the house during pack out. I didn't return the two red squirt guns to the basket in the living room before he commanded me to do so. And I didn't always respond promptly during booking. Should be it.
We had a very nice stay at this cozy home. Mr. Moberg was wonderful answering questions and making our dates work. He even called to give us a heads up that it was snowing and to drive careful. Very thoughtful! The home is as advertised only better. Very clean and welcoming. We have never rented such a nice "pet friendly" home that was so friendly. I really appreciated that. We definitely would recommend this home for anyone traveling to the canal.
We spent a whole week in this beatiful home. Everything is as you can see on the pictures and even better. The house is very functional and we felt like at home since we arrived. Very well maintained and we have everything we need to cook and BBQ outside. The neighboords very friendly and the owner was extremely extremely nice. I will recommend this place to everybody who would like to relax. OUr boys 14 and 8 y.o. had a blast at the private beach with the kayak and fishing.
We didn't visit during the best weather time of year but wanted to be near family so we really appreciated the comforts this house had to offer. The beds were comfortable, and we really enjoyed the kitchen which is very well laid-out and supplied; so easy when you're not sure you want to go out to eat. TV and Wi-Fi kept us in touch with the world and entertained during the rainy time, and the kayak did get put to use when the weather finally broke on our last day there, so we definitely want to come back during better weather! Checking in and out was a breeze, as was contacting the owner, and our deposit was refunded before we got back to eastern Washington.
Hood Canal is a fabulous place. The sunsets were fabulous, and lots to do there and in the area. This home is well maintained and fit us perfectly. One of the bedrooms opens onto the deck and canal; so special to wake up in the morning there. The beach is great, we enjoyed having a grassy yard, too. Having the kayak available was a much appreciated plus. Kitchen is well outfitted. One of the challenges with a family reunion is having enough spots for folks to sit and eat - not a problem here, nice dining table inside and two tables on the decks. The owner is very nice to work with, and our deposit was refunded very speedily. We appreciated being able to reserve for a long weekend, not having to book an entire week. Families and couples of all ages would enjoy it here.
This is one of those places we have been looking for to return every year. We have Portland friends and we live on Whidbey Island. Therefore, we were looking for a good midway spot to meet, rather than one of the couple having to travel the entire distance. We could not have asked for more. The home is beautifully done with light pine, glass cabinets, abundant kitchenware, etc. The beds very, very comfortable. Even our extra guest who slept on the futon said it was the best futon ever. Then there is the property...right on the water, polite neighbors, great decks, and stars galore, you will not be disappointed. We have a great picture coming into the property from the water side while we were kayaking I wish I could post it.We will be back!
