|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Casa De Blue is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house with a plunge pool. The house's open plan design over 3 levels permits spectacular breathtaking ocean and beach views from every room.
The 2 master bedrooms, one on the 1st floor with the plunge pool and the other on the 3rd floor, have brand new king size pillow top mattresses with mosquito nets and ensuite bathrooms.
The 3rd bedroom is situated on the 2nd floor and has 2 brand new single orthopaedic mattresses with mosquito nets.
Also on the 2nd floor is an additional bathroom, kitchen with a brand new stainless stove and a double door refrigerator with water filtration and ice maker, crescent shaped bar area for socializing while preparing meals, a dining room, lounge room, a hammock room and plenty of space to dance or yoga out.
The house is positioned on the hillside above Backwash beach and is surrounded by rain forest filled with unbelievable wildlife providing a daily safari like experience.
Without even getting out of bed you will possibly see scarlet macaws, toucans and the 4 species of monkeys.
Casa De Blue overlooks some of the most pristine untouched beaches in the world with world-class point break waves, migrating whales and resident turtle and dolphin populations. Backwash beach is a short 7-10 minute hike down our jungle path.
Our water supply comes from a local spring and our power is generated from a brand new solar system with a backup generator. Fans are provided throughout the house.
Linens and towels are provided and changed every 3 nights for bookings of 5 or more nights.
Additional housekeeping, laundry and meals can also be arranged.
We are an Australian and Brazilian couple completely in love with costa rica and in particularly this area.
It is the ideal place to completely disconnect from the real world and immerse yourself in nature.
We stayed here in February 2015. Had no idea what to expect and the experience was beyond our expectation. This is unlike anything we have ever done and may not be for everyone, but if you can do without some creature comforts and just be present, and "unplugged", you will not be disappointed. The bird sightings were stunning! The macaws and toucans were delightful. The views from the house are exceptional. All in all, for us it was an experience in a lifetime.
We loved every minute of our stay. The house is open so you never have to miss the views. The pictures do not do it justice. It is absolutely breathtaking not to mention the wildlife you are able to enjoy. The macaws and toucans eat and play in the trees in front of the house. The monkeys are impossible to miss. The house is a short walk to the beach. The highlight was that we were able to see Humpback whales breaching every day from the house as well as the beach.
The hosts are great people and willing to help in any way with information and tours. The food was wonderful! There are no shortages of activities and adventures available in the area for whatever your interests might be. I can't say enough good things about the house, the hosts and the area.
Just returned from a week’s stay at Casa De Blue and all we can say is wow!
Julian is a wealth of knowledge and the perfect host. The house location is absolutely the best spot anywhere around. Perfect for viewing and accessing two world-class right point breaks. Perfect for getting breezes from any direction and getting away from the bugs you’ll find in other houses closer to the beach (not a single mosquito bite!). Perfect for accessing other jungle activities like hiking Corcovado National Park, but if like us, we saw enough wildlife (monkeys, toucans, macaws, etc.) right from the dining room table! Oh yea, the dipping pool is icing on the cake after the walk up from the beach or jungle.
Like other reviewers say, this house is not the place to bring young kids due to multi-levels of steps and lack of railings. However, it’s perfect for adults wanting to get away from it all. Just do your research on what to bring (and what not to bring) to this remote area. You don’t need lots of clothes and heavy shoes. You do need the following: 4WD if driving, flashlights, plenty of groceries if doing your own cooking, and an attitude that you are ready to get away from AC, technology and civilization in general. If you plan to surf, consider reef booties if your feet not tough enough to do the rock dances required for some of the breaks.
Thanks Julian! Can’t wait to book my next trip!
The absolut dream in Costa Rica.
It's always more difficult too tell people what a dream can be when you live it.
First, the house is exactly what you see on web site, but more than a beautiful building, you can live a waking dream at julian's cabo matapalo's house.
You'll probably need a 4x4 to move easily and go to Puerto Jimenez or Corcovado.
The living table is the most beautiful observation post of Costa Rica, you'll see monkeys parots with your morning coffee....
Julian can give you many advices and help you to organize your trip ( Surfing, hicking, dolphin tour...) and take care of you.
You have to deserve this place and respect where you are and how lucky you are ...
A special mention for Paola who do the best vegetarian food we've ever eaten ( it was our first time too) and do the best massage of central america !!
Without any doubt the best address to go if you want to visit corcovado national park and live " la pura vida".
We think that the minimun stay to appreciate this perfect place wich offer many activities around.
Thank you so much Paola and Julian we never forget our trip and you're welcome in Corsica at our home when you want !

Perfect for our family. For those looking to see Costa Rica at its best, this is it. For what we wanted, it does not get any better than this. That said, it may not be ideal for everyone. We drove from San Jose which is the better part of 7 hours, though you can catch a small plane to Puerto Jimenez, placing you 45 minutes from the house.
If you are looking for stunning views of the sunrise and ocean, this is for you. If you want to see monkeys, macaws, toucans, and dozens of other creatures at only an arm reach away, this is for you. If ecological responsibility and low environmental impact appeals, this place will make you smile.
However, if you are afraid of nature, do your research. This is a wide open house with very few walls, no windows, and limited connectivity to the outside world. You will see ants and other bugs, but nothing too frightening. The house really wouldn't be considered handicap accessible with some pretty steep stairs and no railings on the edges. Likewise, it wouldn't be well suited for toddlers. For teens and adventurous adults, it is perfect!
1 Talk to Julian, the owner. He is extremely insightful and friendly. He will willingly tell you anything you need to know.
2. Consider the meal plan and housekeeping service he offers. It takes 2 hours for a roundtrip to the grocery store on a bumpy gravel road. It's a fun outing but is time consuming. We did the meals on the first day and the kids devoured every bite of very good cooking. Comes at a price but at least think about it.
Housekeeping is great as the open house gets dirty quickly from breeze, insects, birds, geckos, etc. Totally worth it at low cost.
3. Rent a 4x4. Hugely increases your flexibility, though a taxi can take you into town for $60 but you have to plan ahead. The roads will be scary to those who have only lived on pavement, but as an avid offroader, I would describe the roads as being outstanding in condition, but remarkably steep and narrow. 4X4 is NOT optional. If you can't drive a stick shift, this is NOT the place to learn.
4. Bring a flashlight. It gets very dark and the house is primarily solar powered with intermittent electricity.
5. Privacy: Total privacy from the outside world but no privacy from each other. Bathroom walls are partial, rooms lack complete walls, etc.
6. Owner or caretaker always on site so safety is never a concern.
7. Do it! Miss it already.
Cabo Matapalo is situated at the southern most point of the Osa Peninsula where tropical low level rainforest meets the ocean of the Gulfo Dulce.
The property is filled with spectacular wildlife and provides a daily safari like experience.
The beaches that Casa De Blue overlooks are some of the most pristine untouched in the world with world-class point break waves, migrating whales and resident turtle and dolphin populations.
