Overview

About the property

Beautiful rustic dwelling on 4 acres of gardens, pines, ponds. Quiet & private!

Really a unique place! You really feel like you're way out in the country.

Walk down to the river, skim stones on the pond, sit and listen to the birds. Fantastic fireplace, a great kitchen. We have 2 bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a Queen size bed and the other bedroom has a trundle bed with 2 twin beds that can connect or not. In the living room there is a sofa bed that bends back to become a full bed. We also have a Queen size raised air bed to set up in a large tent or on the porch. We have 66 mature organic blueberry bushes which are free for the picking from July-Sept.

Most of the time I stay in my vintage RV at the other end of the property. I value my guests' privacy, so you will not see or hear me, unless you need me! My iPhone is the front desk!

About Donna Blue Lachman

My name is Donna Blue and I love living out here. I'm from Chicago but found this place in 1986 and fell in love! We added on to the house and planted trees which are now huge-- and the gardens are, well, mature and lovely.

After going back and forth from Chicago on weekends I decided to JUST LIVE here,,. which I've been doing for about 13 years.

I'm an actor, playwright, teacher and director. I founded and was the Artistic Director of the Blue Rider Theater in Chicago for 14 years. I spent many years of my life traveling to do research for my plays, performed all over the country and abroad and Off- Broadway.

I perform at the Acorn Theater, teach drama in schools and hold retreats here on the land.

I also have a little theater company I've started out here called, "SECOND WIND" which is for boomers (like me) doing improvisations about our lives, and turning them into plays for the community. GREAT FUN!!

I have lived in Haiti, Poland, and trekked in Nepal (to just name a few.) I have been blessed with many people who welcomed me into their homes and

treated me wonderfully.

Now it's my turn to host and I'm excited to share this beautiful place with others.

I do all the gardening and landscaping which I consider a privilege.

Donna Blue Lachman purchased this house in 1987

Why Donna Blue Lachman chose Southwest Michigan

From the moment I walked on this land I felt it was very special. I knew the Potawatami Indians lived all along the river which borders the western part of the property.

Everyone who comes here to visit or vacation tells me they feel the wonderful energy too.

I try to keep it going.

What makes this house unique

What most people love about staying here, is that it feels so far away from everything, yet close to great restaurants, theater, cinema and the BEACH!

Our stay was so much more than we even thought it

  • 5 of 5

This house is bursting with welcome and personality. If you enjoy waking up to paradise outside your door, to complete calm and peace surrounded by gardens and endless green, you will love your stay here! Not to mention ending your day to twinkling stars, soaks in the hot top and listening to music. You really feel secluded but are just minutes away from fun restaurants , beaches and shopping. Donna is delightful and easily available if you need her! Don't pass up a stay here, you will never forget it! Russ and Judy ...and Valentine .. who enjoyed her stay as much as we did!

Gorgeous Property. Great hostess.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my wife and 2 kids, 5 and 2 y.o, and everyone enjoyed their stay. The frog pond kept the kids enthralled and the peace and quiet of Three Oaks countryside was exactly what the adults needed too. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything you would need. The screened in porch and hot tub were a nice addition.

Awesome vacation getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We truly loved staying here. Donna was very accommodating. It was amazing to take walks through the huge yard and only hear the birds and the wind rustling through the trees. The hot tub was very relaxing. If you are looking for a country getaway, this is the place to be. We will definitely try to stay here again in the future.

A beautiful rustic home with eclectic decor and beautiful gardens.

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect girls weekend getaway house! Just a quick drive from Chicago, perfectly located near wineries, the beach, small town antique shops, a great flower nursery and a farmers market on Sunday morning. We loved staying here!!! It was very comfortable and beautiful! Donna was a gracious hostess!! We loved meeting her and getting to hear more about the property and all of her lovely plants.

We will most definitely be back!

Lovely host and relaxing private yard

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for Memorial Day weekend with four adults and two pets. The house has one queen bed in the master bedroom and an office with two twin beds in a trundle situation. There is a futon in the master bedroom and a futon in the living room that can be fitted as small beds. I would say that I'm glad we didn't bring another adult couple with us like we were originally planning on doing, but those extra beds would be perfectly suitable for children.

The hot tub is best suited for 2-3 people, 4 was a REAL tight squeeze, we got up close and personal with our friends! And I hope you don't mind being nude, cause that is the hosts preferred hot tub bathing situation since detergent residue in bathing suits can affect the tub. We did find it enjoyable when we went in two at a time. Be sure to read the instructions on how to turn the jets up!

The outdoor space really is the crown jewel of this property. There are two separate ponds, one close to the house that is chock full of frogs (which my dog LOVED!), and another towards the back of the property which is huge. The property also backs up to a pretty great creek. Make sure to take a few walks and really enjoy the outdoors, us city folks loved it.

If you're able to do it, bring a couple of camping chairs with you to sit by your campfire. She has a few chairs for you to use, but they aren't all in great shape. For the four of us, we were fine, but I wish I had thrown a couple of our collapsible chairs in our car.

The location is great, and it was a perfect getaway from Chicago for the long weekend. We would come back to stay.
