Really a unique place! You really feel like you're way out in the country.
Walk down to the river, skim stones on the pond, sit and listen to the birds. Fantastic fireplace, a great kitchen. We have 2 bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a Queen size bed and the other bedroom has a trundle bed with 2 twin beds that can connect or not. In the living room there is a sofa bed that bends back to become a full bed. We also have a Queen size raised air bed to set up in a large tent or on the porch. We have 66 mature organic blueberry bushes which are free for the picking from July-Sept.
Most of the time I stay in my vintage RV at the other end of the property. I value my guests' privacy, so you will not see or hear me, unless you need me! My iPhone is the front desk!
My name is Donna Blue and I love living out here. I'm from Chicago but found this place in 1986 and fell in love! We added on to the house and planted trees which are now huge-- and the gardens are, well, mature and lovely.
After going back and forth from Chicago on weekends I decided to JUST LIVE here,,. which I've been doing for about 13 years.
I'm an actor, playwright, teacher and director. I founded and was the Artistic Director of the Blue Rider Theater in Chicago for 14 years. I spent many years of my life traveling to do research for my plays, performed all over the country and abroad and Off- Broadway.
I perform at the Acorn Theater, teach drama in schools and hold retreats here on the land.
I also have a little theater company I've started out here called, "SECOND WIND" which is for boomers (like me) doing improvisations about our lives, and turning them into plays for the community. GREAT FUN!!
I have lived in Haiti, Poland, and trekked in Nepal (to just name a few.) I have been blessed with many people who welcomed me into their homes and
treated me wonderfully.
Now it's my turn to host and I'm excited to share this beautiful place with others.
I do all the gardening and landscaping which I consider a privilege.
Donna Blue Lachman purchased this house in 1987
From the moment I walked on this land I felt it was very special. I knew the Potawatami Indians lived all along the river which borders the western part of the property.
Everyone who comes here to visit or vacation tells me they feel the wonderful energy too.
I try to keep it going.
What most people love about staying here, is that it feels so far away from everything, yet close to great restaurants, theater, cinema and the BEACH!
We had a great stay here. Donna was very friendly and accommodating. Although we had a lot of rain during our trip we did not mind. We just curled up next to the fire with books and games and utilized the kitchen for cooking. When the weather cleared up we took the dog on long walks on the country roads and forest trails. The deck and yard was very serene and private. We certainly took advantage of the hot tub. We loved hearing the songs of all the birds and were even visited by a wild turkey in the yard. There is a lot to do in the area but we just wanted to disconnect and relax and it was perfect for that.
Donna was a pleasure to work with and her home a little gem in the countryside. We enjoyed our stay very much - including the big backyard, the fire pit, the well stocked kitchen, and the peace and quiet. A weekend away at this little spot is just what my soul needed.
House was very well decorated with interesting items and just the right size. We enjoyed walking on the large property with our dog and she really enjoyed running around in the woods. The jacuzzi worked great and the fireplace by the couch was wonderful to have. The owner was easy to contact and pleasant to talk with.
This is my second time staying at blueberry fields, and it will not be my last. The owner is very accommodating & very nice. She is also very quick to reply to any questions and needs. The house is perfect for a small group. We've traveled in a group of 4 both times & it was perfect. The hot tub is always warm and clean. Firewood has always been available to use for the indoor fireplace. The house is very close to downtown sawyer (a 10 minute drive) so anything you need (food, restaurants, Greenbush brewery, etc.) are only minutes away. Overall, I love the tranquillity of this place and can't wait to get back. Both of my trips were in winter, so I was unable to pick any of the fresh blueberries from the field directly across the street. But that is something I look forward to checking out during my next stay.
I stayed here with my best girlfriend for a weekend in the snow and loved every minute of it. The house is gorgeous with so much character. There are beautiful treasures all around the house and if you take the time to relax and pay attention, you will truly experience all the magic this property has to offer. We did not want to leave and hope to be back again soon.
My parents came from China to visit me and I wanted to take them somewhere relaxing for a weekend. The house is perfectly suited for my purpose. The large piece of land around is beautiful and secluded but the house is not too far away from civilization. Every room has large screen doors towards the outside and the view is impeccable. The owner was very nice and made sure that our stay was very comfortable. Everything is super convenient because it's her home and she lives there! There's water filter in the kitchen that soften the hard well water which is very important for me. I'd definitely come again and recommend it to my friends.
