About Cathy Bokman

We first discovered Colonial Beach in 2006 and after enjoying the easy drive from Chevy Chase, MD and the warmth not only of the beach, but also the people...we bought a small cottage on the Point in 2007. We loved sharing it with our family and friends. When not relaxing at the beach, my day job is in the hotel business and I thought it would be fun to own a vacation cottage rental. In 2011, we bought our first beach rental; Beachcomber I on Hawthorn with some of our family members and undertook a major renovation...all of the hard work was worth it...we enjoyed being able to share this hidden secret of Colonial Beach with others. The overwhelming acceptance and positive comments we have received from guests saying how much they enjoyed their stay was very gratifying and in 2012 we bought another rental; Beachcomber II on Wilder. It, too, has been well received by our guests. I will say, it is a lot of work keeping the houses nice for our guests...but I have tremendous help from a team of local people who make sure it is clean, keys work, everything is in working order, lawn cut..special thanks to Katie and Phyllis who treat these cottages like their own and Ethel, Chris, and LLoyd who pitch in, as needed. I know, like me, after you experience the welcoming calm of Colonial Beach, you will be back many times...and we hope it is at one of the Beachcomber Cottages!

Cathy Bokman purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Cathy Bokman chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

We chose this property for a couple of reasons; view, size, location, and the fact that it was demolished to the studs so that it was really a clean slate. As we reconstructed it; we changed the layout for maximum enjoyment of the view and adding the ability to have a guest suite within the house. Also we liked that it was one story; through the past several years of renting we have found that many of our guests want the accessibility of one level living.

What makes this cottage unique

We think you will enjoy the views from the front porch, livingroom, and dining room. We think you will like that it is close to a quiet beach. Many guests in our past rentals have enjoyed that we are family friendly; including your dogs. Please tell us what you enjoy!

Notes:
This house is the third of our great Beachcomber Cottages; all listed on Homeaway; Beachcomber I (900979) and Beachcomber II (956917). This house went through a complete renovation in 2014 before it became a vacation rental. We bought this shell of a house that was demolished to the studs; it has new plumbing, AC, windows, flooring, insulation, lighting..really ALL NEW. Also the house, is one level living; with easy access so while not handicapp has great accessibility with walk in showers and wide doorways. There is a terrific waterview from not only the front porch, but also livingroom, kitchen, and diningroom. The large family room features a stone fireplace (candles only) and plenty of space to gather. We are excited about our third cottage and hope you will make it part of your family's vacation plans! We also welcome well behaved dogs; fee does apply. There is an owner's garage with 2nd Floor Office at the back of the property; it does not interfere with your stay.

Another amazing stay in another amazing Beachcomber Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had such a comfortable and amazing stay the Beachcomber Cottage on Hawthorne st. for our wedding last year, that we came back on our one year anniversary with some friends to try the Beachcomber Cottage on the point.

WOW! We were all so happy with this house. It is much larger then it appears, with lots of natural light from all the windows. The open floor plan with the large kitchen in the center was perfect for hanging out, singing karaoke, and celebrating!

The view of the sunrise over the river from the front patio was incredible! We really enjoyed spending time out front relaxing and star gazing in the hammock, having coffee and cocktails in the rocking chairs, and sitting at the large picnic table looking at the river and eating crabs. The location of the house is very quiet and peaceful , with enough distance from downtown that we could all jump on the golf carts and have some fun viewing all the nooks and crannies of Colonial Beach.

We really enjoyed meeting the owners and found them to be very easy going, and a pleasure to rent from! We are so grateful for their hospitality and attentiveness. We will definitely rent from them again, and our friends are also now hooked! LOVE LOVE LOVE this cottage and so will you!

We Hope this helps you decide!

The house was very nice and homey. Convenient location.

  • 4 of 5

The home was cute and comfortable. Nice quiet area and well equipped. That said, the beds were very uncomfortable. Seemed like headboards were not attached to frames or very worn out because every time you moved the headboard hit the wall. TV that had Netflix and Roku was in one of the bedrooms instead of in the common areas which was dissapointing. The fenced in yard was great for the dog. All in all i would stay again, provided they replace beds.

Owner's Response: Lynn, We are glad you had a nice vacation. We appreciate your comments on the beds. We have upgraded the mattresses recently, but will double check on the headboards. The additional televisions in the bedrooms were a guest request and cable was not wired in all of the rooms. We find many of our guests enjoy the option to stream their favorite shows. Thanks for staying and enjoy the rest of your summer. Cathy Bokman Beachcomber Cottages

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was above and beyond my expectations! My best friend and I brought our kids and grandkids for a few days and then they left and we had the whole place to ourselves the rest of the time to antique shop around town, go to the different fairs in town, have some good seafood, and enjoy the wonderful cottage, sitting on the front deck watching the river flow by. Just awesome and relaxing! Can't wait to come back!

Owner's Response: We look forward to having you back with us AGAIN! One of the things we love about owning our cottages is having guests not only enjoy them their first time, but also welcoming them back the next time. It might not surprise you, but we have many guests who come more than once a year to enjoy each of the unique experiences of each season in Colonial Beach. We are so glad that you and your friends came back this year to experience Beachcomber III after staying with us in Beachcomber II last year. Thanks for staying and we will see you soon, Cathy

Super mini-vacation

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend Thursday - Monday and it is a great house - great location and the kids loved being so close to the beach. It is a great beach for little ones as it is so shallow for a long way out and no big waves. House nice and big and plenty of space for every one and great amenities The only reason I did not give it five stars is that my two daughters said their beds were really hard - not soft at all and for ours (master) it really creaked every time you turned around and we were afraid we would wake everyone anytime we turned or moved. Overall, a great stay and we would definitely come back again. The town is great and we rented a golf cart, plenty to do and there are plenty places to eat out as well.

Thanks it was great!

Owner's Response: So glad to hear you had a great get-away. This is the first I have heard of the master bed, we will definitely take a look and remedy it. I will reach out to you to see what beds your daughters slept in; we bought extra firm, but we don't want them to be uncomfortable. Please come see us again! Cathy

A family vacation to remember at the Beachcomber III; the newest of the Beachcomber cottages, welcoming guests since June 2014! Our 4 bedroom, 3 bath vacation home, is family friendly. This cottage features a quiet location with waterview and is steps to the quiet Castlewood Beach and boat launch on the Point. Located one mile from the center of town; the house is close to the beach and Docksides Restaurant bar and marina is just 3 blocks away!

The beauty of the Beachcomber III is it is perfect for families and couples. The house is a one story easily accessible home featuring 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. House has great space to relax with a large open eat in kitchen, livingroom and family room with den. A hidden gem of the house is that there is the ability to have privacy in the back of the house for a couple with a bedroom, bath, kitchenette, and den; that can be locked off for privacy.

The enjoyment of the Beachcomber isn't limited to the house. Great views from the front deck of sunrise over the river Also we feature a gas grill and picnic area; great for crab picking!

Just a quick hour away is Kings Dominion Theme Park; featuring great rides and waterpark.

Thanks for looking and be prepared to fall in love with Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck!
