Great Location, Great Hosts, Rustic Accommodation

  • 3 of 5

First off, let me say that Ari and Rosa and the gang were fast, kind, and efficient communicators. They did their best to accommodate us with any request we had.

The apartment is in an awesome location on the upper east side, and it was perfect to access the trains and Central Park. The Met was a 30 minute walk away, and there was so much accessible from the location.

The apartment itself is up three flights of stairs, which is fully disclosed by the owners. It was pretty hard to do every day with a stroller and a toddler, but if you're hale and in shape it's totally fine. The apartment is small, but that's what you get for Manhattan - if you want more space, check out Brooklyn. We wanted to be central because of our kid's schedule.

The beds were not the comfiest - everything is from IKEA, so if you sleep well on an IKEA bed, you're going to do great. My only large complaint is that the heat is controlled by the building, not the suite, so our bedroom was over 30 degrees. Opening the window made it better, but we had to run the ac at all times, which made us super ill by the end of the week. I'm sure it's just the time of year we travelled in - some suites need heat, and others don't, but we suffered a lot at night because of it.

The suite is very clean - we saw one baby roach on our first day, and one big one as we were leaving, but it's New York. If you don't see them, you probably need an eye exam. Has everyone watched Joe's Apartment? This is not Joe's Apartment, I promise.

Make sure you check in before 8pm or else you get charged a fee - that was an unexpected bummer that we have never experienced at any other VRBO, but I get it. We had no control over our plane being delayed, but we still had to pay $75 to be let into the suite. You're told ahead of time, so just check your flight itinerary before you book this place.

Overall, there are probably more comfortable places to stay in Manhattan for around the same price, but for a last minute trip, we were grateful to have a place that could accommodate us all.

Thanks to Ari and Rosa and the gang, you were great to work with!

Owner's Response: We just wanted to comment about a few of the details at this review: The apartment is 2nd flight up and it is at our description. Heat is control by the building as 99% other building in NYC, including luxury building. This apartment actually has a bonus, the large bedroom heat is controlled by the tenant, so can be controlled or turn off. Most people complained about not enough heat in the winter, this apartment is not a problem. Also all windows can be open and you have an AC that can be used at any time to cool the place. Roachs, can be found at any building, especially if you above restaurants. If you want to be at the heart of NYC (Manhattan) you will have restaurants. Late check in fee is after 8pm and its publish at our ad. We give an excellent location apartment, good up to 6 guests, clean - We think its a great deal. Hope to see you, Best Ari

Apt was clean and the owners were helpful. Relatively close to the subway station. Lots near there, but was always a trek to get downtown.

Props to the photographer

To start, the apartment is in a very old, not well maintained building. Third floor by stairs, not recommendable for old people, or little children. The apartment is dirty, tiles on the kitchen floor are broken and the pieces come out often, and with a little one bare footed all the time is a big hazard, the bathtub is rusted, the shower handle is broken and you can't regulate the water temperature, it's either cold or boiling water. A/C only in the living room and the master bedroom, so if you are planning on closing the second bedroom's door, you'll be left to suffocate (in summer). Tried to turn on the stove and it wasn't working, so no cooking could be done.

I have rented apartments all over NY and had never had such a negative experience.

Owner's Response: This apartment look exactly as the pictures show. Those pictures were taking by us personally without any fixing. Nothing would make those guests happy. This is not a luxury building. Its a simple building, walk up as advertise, located at a great location. The apartment is very clean, it always completely clean, wash and laundered before any guests arrival. water pressure is fine, shower head is not broken, (Anything break we ask guests to let us know immediately, so we can replace). There are 2 AC, one in the living room in from of the smaller bedroom and one at the large bedroom, there is no way to put an AC in the small bedroom, we have a fun. There were 2 tiles broken on the kitchen floor and it was fix since than. The stove is working fine, an operator mistake, the could have just called. Its a really nice small 2 bedroom apartment, with a great price at a great location.

Quite nice, basic apartment

  • 3 of 5

We spent two weeks here with the family of 6 (three teenagers and 1,5-year-old), the apartment was not very spacious for us but filled the basic needs. Comfortable beds and crib for the toddler. Air conditioning worked well on hot weather. The nearest subway station was 15 mins away (86th and Lexington; not half a block away ; ) and it was 3rd floor apartment with no elevator. But all in all we had a quite nice and authentic stay in NYC.
