How to get there: Flights from Manila to Puerto Princessa:
Palawan is a one hour domestic flight from Manila Airport. We find Cebu Pacific and Airphil Express to have the most competitive prices currently. Other airlines include Zestair and Philippine Airlines. Book in advance to receive the best prices. We usually pay around $60 usd each way, but this can be higher for late bookings.
Public transport is available from Puerto Princesa, but the most convenient and comfortable trip is by air conditioned van. There are 7 and 12 seater vans available for the very pleasant 2 and a half to 3 hour trip up the Palawan coastline where you'll pass through dozens of small villages and see how Filipinos really live in the provinces. You'll pay a little over $100 usd for a van. You'll pass the famous Underground River on the way to and from Port Barton so you may like to take the side trip to visit this outstanding tourist attraction. You driver can organise this but he will need some notice. Your driver can now take you directly to Gilligans as we now have a road behind our property.
Gilligans is a simple beachfront vacation home with a carefree holiday feel. You'll be amazed at how beautiful our beach is and the scenery is stunning from our front verandah.
Don’t worry about getting a little sand on the floors inside. It’s easy for us to clean. Gilligans has 2 new bathrooms and a new kitchen. There is a large lounge and dining area with unique furniture. The facilities are clean and comfortable. You'll probably spend most of your time on the front veranda, our beachfront bar, or our popular beachfront Cabana looking out to the stunning views of the pristine beach and the blue waters of the marine park area where you can enjoy a few beers or cold drinks while you relax. Its very quiet here! We have very few neighbours, and you'll rarely see them. Our only neighbours live around 300 metres away in a village of around 20 people and rely on fishing for their income so you probably won't see them at all unless they bring their catch of the day to offer for sale.
The rooms are quite airy and usually cool as we are right beside the sea. Mosquito screens are installed on the windows and mosquito nets are provided for each bed. There's also a small fan beside each bed for warmer weather.
You are welcome to do your own cooking or enjoy the basic Filipino home style cooking of our caretaker Estrellia. She will gladly prepare basic but tasty meals for you.
We do it Island Style here: Island hopping, swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking to the nearby waterfalls, bush walks, Bar-B-Ques on uninhabited islands, are just to name a few of the possible activities. There are some clothing optional beach areas nearby for those who'd like an all-over tan. Make sure you spend some time on the beach at night to watch the amazing star show and you'll most likely see some shooting stars and comets. Occasionally fireflies visit.
We have 2 Stand-up Paddle-boards available for our guests use should you like to try your skills. Our kayaks and paddle boats are also free for our guests to use. If you ask our assistants, they may even cut some coconuts so you can drink fresh juice. It’s so refreshing, even better with some Malibu Rum, so bring some with you.
Drinking cocktails or cold beer, eating fresh seafood, sleeping, reading, relaxing, and walks along the beach are some other popular pastimes. There are always new treasures being washed up onto the beach such as shells, starfish and driftwood. Explore!
Gilligans is a 'Green' resort and our power source is the sun. We have a small solar hot water system and stacks of solar panels for our lighting, entertainment, refrigeration and power requirements. We have a back-up generator as well.
Gilligans is a very romantic destination for couples. We've even held a wedding here. Gilligans has 3 bedrooms with 4 queen sized beds, and is best suited for up to 8 persons but we can place an extra bed or beds for groups who don't mind a few extra people around.
The third bedroom is very large so we have installed a privacy screen in the middle which allows room for the extra bed to bring our optimum capacity to 8.
We have some photos of the interior of the house on Gilligans website which also has links to our Facebook and Flickr sites which show how the house is set up. We also have several photo galleries on Gilligans website, so search www dot gilligans dot com dot ph
Email us through this site and we'll send you lots of information about Gilligans and our other home listed on this site Villa Marguerita.

I built our first home in Port Barton as we felt that this area was paradise and had the same potential as Boracay, without the crowds and overdevelopment. We have 2 beachfront homes in Port Barton, both listed on this site. We decided to rent the homes to help cover the costs of maintenance and to share the charm and beauty of this area. The feeling we have every time we arrive here is exciting. The homes are simple and it's the freedom and peace we feel here that we enjoy most. Cruising through the islands, swimming on our own beach and enjoying this very special place. I'm sure you'll also enjoy that special feeling.
Michell Ignacio purchased this house in 2007
We purchased this home from a friend that had lived here for 16. He decided to head to the big smoke to enjoy retirement closer to town. We've added lots of amenities since then including a solar power system, solar hot water system, lights, refrigeration, satelite TV, a new kitchen and many other creature comforts. We love the privacy of this area as there are few neighbours in the area and we rarely see anyone else walk past along the beach. The clear water and magnificent beach are exactly like the photos and the scenery at Gilligans is absolutely stunning. At night, try lying on the beach to watch the stars, comets and shooting stars. Then, go down to the beach and run your hands through the water and watch the water sparkle from bioluminescent algae. This is a must do! If you don't spend some time on the beach at night, you'll have missed some WONDERFUL sights.
There are few places in the world where you find such a stunning location with such privacy for such a low nightly price. At Gilligans you can choose to do your own meals or we can do it all for you. It's your choice. The views from our home are stunning. You'll forget about work the moment you step of the boat onto the beach.
Over the last year I have stayed in many peaceful places, but the serenity of Gilligan’s Hideaway Guest House surpasses them all. I thought I’d learnt to unwind, but not completely I found out. Gilligan’s is located at Nao Nao, a one kilometer stretch of beach about 5 km by boat north of Port Barton Town. Apart from a couple of native huts at the far end of the beach, and a caretakers’ house at the back of Gilligan’s, there is no other signs of human habitation.
The large timber three bedroom house sits on stilts, a few feet off the ground and about 20 meters back from the water’s edge. The front of the house has a huge covered verandah. Sitting there at night in one of the cane rocking chairs is sublime. There is only the night sky to light up the beach and ocean. In the far distance can be seen the twinkling of the lights from San Vicente. Not a manmade sound is to be heard and the ringing in ones ears from the silence is rhythmically interrupted by the waves gently exhausting onto the foreshore.
I sat on the beach very early one morning watching the dawn break. From there I saw a pod of dolphins slowly traversing the bay, only 50 meters from the shore. Fish frequently flew out of the water to escape their prey………………..

If you are looking for your own corner of Paradise, this is it. A very comfortable stay, we were looked after well by the caretakers. Gilligan's is well thought out, clean and lovely. A deserted beach, a flower filled garden, and a house that felt like home. We went in Feb, there were winds and the sea was never as calm as the photo, but it was beautiful nevertheless. Highly recommended.
The hospitality, property and atmosphere was unbelievable. I feel compelled to leave this review in spite of wanting to keep this undiscovered jewel to myself. Thank you to Arnold, Marilyn and all of the great people that we were blessed to meet in Port Barton. Stay here, you will not be disappointed :-) Trev
Mal, the owner, was very helpful and insightful throughout the whole booking process. He gave a lot of advice, supplied info and answers to questions, and even made very helpful suggestions, in order to make the whole process of booking etc. very easy.
Mal made sure we had the correct info w.r.t. Manila Airport and where we will be required to pass through immigration. He also made sure our grocery shopping was done for us. Thanks
We were picked up at the airport in Puerto Princessa by Abner, who drove us to Port Barton, explaining and giving useful information all along the way. (We used him to take us back the day we departed).
We were greeted friendly by Estrellia and Roger when we arrived at Gilligans. They were very kind and helpful, and assisted us with whatever we needed.
Gilligans. WOW. The white sandy beach, the swimming area, the collecting of shells during low tide, the walks along the beach, paddling across the ocean to Bigaho Falls, and the food made by Estrallia and Roger. All these things made for a memorable vacation. My son, Matthew, and I were very honored when Estrellia invited us to dinner to celebrate her daughter's 14th birthday. Strangers from across the oceans, but treated and respected like family. Thank you!!!!!
The property at Gilligans was right on the beach. Every morning we only had to walk 5 meters and we were on the beach, ready to go and swim and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. All amenities in the house was sufficient, and all we had to do was relax and enjoy our stay.
Asher, our island hopping/snorkeling/dolphin watching/fishing guide, was one of the best guides we have ever had in the Philippines. He was kind, caring, and insightful. He even helped my son Matthew when it came to snorkeling and fishing. On our second island hopping trip, he took us to Exotic Island. We had a fish barbeque for lunch. He supplied us with Unicorn Fish. I thought that was an excellent touch, as we were on Exotic Island eating an Exotic fish. Other boatsmen had tuna fish, a fish that you can find and eat everywhere.
To everyone involved in our vacation and stay at Gilligans, from Mal to all the caretakers and guides, my son and I would just like to say THANK YOU. We appreciated it very much, and we will definitely be back next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beach villa fully supported by sun panels, water well/raiwater and caretakers - they were really great helping with everything and great cooking! The villa is lovely with the right touches. For example our kids loved playing with the toys that were stored in the living room. Loved the beach bar with amazing sun-sets......
Four of us travelled from Northern Ireland and stayed at Gilligans for a week. We had some concerns before leaving, particularly about the remoteness of the location and the fact that there was no aircon in the bedrooms. All our anxieties were assuaged when we set foot on the beach in front of Gilligans. The remoteness is an essential ingredient of its charm, and aircon wasn't an issue: we were lulled to sleep each night by the gentle sound of the waves and the soft breeze wafting through the window. I left my 'kindle' on the plane in Manila and thought I'd be lost without any reading material. Not an issue - I didn't even miss it. The week flew by with our days occupied with kayaking, exploring the nearby beaches and islands, fishing and beachcombing and enjoying Estralia's cooking. Alvin took us to 'Blue Cove Resort' on a neighbouring island one day for lunch. While we enjoyed the trip, we couldn't get back to Gilligans quickly enough to enjoy the sheer solitude. We sat many evenings gazing at the stars trying to find words that might best describe Gilligans.'Fantastic', 'amazing' 'incredible' didn't even come close to doing it justice. There can't be many places in the world like Gilligans, but I'm glad we found this one.
Wonderful place away from it all.... House is basic but comfortable. Location is amazing. Beach is great. Owner/caretakers were great throughout. Absolutely a great choice for someone looking for no-frills solitude. Hope to have the chance to stay there again....
Port Barton is a small town South of San Vicente on the Island of Palawan. Port Barton is a small township located between the Underground River and El Nido. Many of our guests take the Underground River side trip either on their way to, or coming from Port Barton. We can organise transport by van or boat to El Nido and the Underground River. The road trip from Puerto Princessa is a pleasant 2 and a half to 3 hour trip through dozens of small villages and beside the magnificent Palawan coastline. The trip goes quickly and it's well worth the drive.
Port Barton is situated in Paradise.
Our guests have free use of our kayaks and paddle boats, and we have 2 Stand-up Paddle Boards available for use at Gilligans.
There are around 20 nearby islands in the Port Barton area waiting to be explored. Island hopping trips are very popular as are our Beach Barbecue Lunches.
Gilligans is very close to the Bigaho township and waterfalls, and many of our guests have used our kayaks to paddle around to the next bay to walk to the falls. We'd be happy to take you there so you can explore it if you don't have the energy to paddle around. At Gilligans, there's plenty to do, or nothing to do....It's your choice.
