Seahorse Cottage 2 - "Here Comes the Sun"

Seahorse Cottage 2 is the largest of our free standing cottages. This is a rustic, quaint two bedroom beach cottage right on the powdery white sand of the Gulf and named after the Beetles popular oldie "Here Comes the Sun". The Framed lyrics and sunny touches of this theme decorate this nostalgic getaway. There is a separate family room equipped with a full size sleeper sofa and a new flat screen TV, a master bedroom with a queen bed, a small 2nd bedroom with a queen bed, a full kitchen with a separate dining area which seats 4. All new linens and bedding dress both beds, providing a fresh feel and look to the yesteryear backdrop.

The Seahorse Cottages are some of the true "treasures" of Treasure Island. Built in 1938, these quaint cottages were amongst the first structures on the beaches of Treasure Island. A tribute to "Olde Florida" ~ reminiscent of bygone days ~ treasures nestled right in the sugary white sand of the Gulf of Mexico, awaiting your discovery. History and nostalgia unite in these quintessential beach cottages which literally sit right on the powder fine sand. We invite you to stay at Seahorse Cottages and enjoy a truly relaxing, laidback vacation right on the beach. Ranked #2 for Specialty Lodging in Treasure Island the Seahorse Cottages property is made up of 4 free-standing cottages as well as 5 apartments. Our accommodations include an efficiency (Cottage #5), one bedrooms (Cottage #4, Apartments #1, #6, #7 & #8) and two bedrooms (Cottages #2 & #3 and Apartment #9). The rustic wood interiors display knotty pine walls & ceilings and provide an inviting, cozy beach retreat. All units feature casual cottage furnishings, air conditioning, cable, free Wi-Fi, 32" flat screen TV, full kitchen with basic cooking supplies, coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave oven, towels and linens.

Two beachfront pavilions provide a little shade for a break from the rays or an ideal picnic spot. For your comfort and convenience, there are picnic tables, chairs, lounges, fire pit and grills for "those lazy crazy hazy days of summer", not to mention all the other seasons of the year. This nostalgic getaway is sure to lull you back in time. In fact, some patrons have been vacationing here since they were kids and now bring their own families.

Proclaiming "Come on let's twist again like we did last summer!", swing into Cottage 1 ~ "Let's Twist Again". If "it seems like years since it's been clear", reserve your spot at Cottage 2 ~ "Here Comes the Sun".Waste no time tweedle-lee-deeing in bookin' your vacation, "go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight" at Cottage 3 ~ "Rockin' Robin". For those hunks of burning love looking for an intimate romantic getaway, cozy up in Cottage 4 ~ "Burning Love". "Summertime and the livin' is easy. Fish are jumpin'..." so what could be better for the carefree fisherman than Cottage 5 ~ "Summertime". Envision yourself lounging in a chaise watching the sun melt into the Gulf... "Summer breeze makes me feel fine...blowin' though the jasmine in my mind" at Cottage 6 ~ "Summer Breeze". Cottage 7 ~ "Under the Boardwalk" will definitely provide a retreat "out of the sun" and a place for "having some fun". Imagine relaxing days basking in that famous Florida sunshine... "It's like a heat wave burning in your heart" at Cottage 8 ~ "Heat Wave". Book now. "Were on safari to stay. Tell the teacher we're surfin'." at Cottage 9 ~ "Surfin' U.S.A.".

Although traveling decades back in time, you are only steps away from the Gulf where you can enjoy sunbathing, beachcombing, horseshoes, bocce ball, corn hole bean bag toss, swimming in the gentle surf and drinking in fabulous sunsets! For a small Recreational Fee, Seahorse Cottages also offer a kayak, paddle board and bikes to participating guests (optional program). The welcoming Seahorse Cottages are Pet Friendly, Family Friendly, Kid Friendly and "Pocketbook" Friendly.

The cottages are conveniently situated with a Publix Supermarket directly across the street. You are within walking distance from multiple restaurants and tiki bars and just a mile away from the world-renown John's Pass Village and Boardwalk with its outstanding restaurants and fabulous shopping. The revamped Treasure Island Beach Trail was completed in the spring of 2013. This almost mile long paved walkway along the east side of the beach is perfect for walking, running, skateboarding, roller-blading and bicycling. The southern-most point of the trail ends right at the Seahorse Cottages! The trail runs from 104th Avenue to 119th Avenue, parallel to the shoreline, providing easy access to the motels, restaurants and bars that make up the heart of Treasure Island's hotel district.

The Seahorse Cottages are located in historic Treasure Island. Note, Treasure Island acquired its name in 1915 thanks to some enterprising property owners who cleverly buried and then "discovered" a couple of wooden chest on the beach. News of the "treasure" quickly spread and people began referring to the area as "Treasure Island". The name stuck, as did the attraction to this remarkable coastal area ~ the real "find".

True treasures, these charming, rustic cottages are some of the few remaining yesteryear bungalows dotting the Gulf coastline. Their central location, accessibility to restaurants & shops, private setting and reasonable rates make them ideal gathering spots for family reunions, couple getaways, intimate beach weddings and office retreats. These priceless accommodations are just 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport, 45 minutes to Busch Gardens Theme Park and 90 minutes from the Orlando Theme Parks (Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc.).

Step into the past. Step onto the beach. Book now and start making your own memories at the memorable Seahorse Cottages.

Couldn't have picked a better location!

  • 4 of 5

I'd like to start with saying what a tremendous stay we had! The location could not have been more perfect, and we loved the rustic, old Florida feel for our first ever visit to the Gulf Coast! Being able to step out of our cottage and into the sand was exactly what we were looking for, and Seahorse cottages certainly delivered! Prior to our arrival, I had nothing but pleasant interaction with the Teeming Vacation staff, right down to accommodating my request for our parking pass/check in info being sent earlier than the policy states. (We were in central Florida for a week before heading to the beach) Although we had some hot water issues, which I plan to mention to the management - the cottage was adorable, very clean and an absolutely perfect location. Thanks so much for having us, we're looking forward to a return visit as soon as possible! I also put on my hotel sales cap for one evening, having met a couple that was planning a wedding in the area. I gave them a tour of our cottage, and an overview of the property, as they were looking for accommodations for family and thought it might be fun to rent out all of the cottages....I'm hoping they took your contact info and reach out - they really seemed to love the grounds as much as we did. Thanks again! :)

Gulf-Front Old Florida

  • 3 of 5

Walk out the door and go left: the Gulf and one of the deepest beaches in Florida are *right there*, complete with a drum circle on Sundays; walk out the door and go right: many restaurants from the divey to the sublime are *right there* (try Foxy’s for wings or VIP Lounge for Mexican), as is the Suncoast Beach Trolley for getting to the Don CeSar and other points.

The unit has a spacious kitchen, AC units that do the job, and a decent shower. Built in 1938, you get a strong sense of Old Florida charm. The bed in the main bedroom is fine, but whether the rectangle-shaped object in the beach-facing bedroom is actually a bed is a matter for spirited debate. A begged-for foam rubber “topper” plus a quilt elevated it to the point where sleep miraged into the realm of possibility, but investment in a new mattress would be a better solution. We did not try to fold out the couch in the lounge area because we were not certain we’d be able to get it folded up again.

If you find yourself spoiled from standard hotel housekeeping practices, bring along a set of sheets and maybe towels...conserving water and energy is smart, no question, but you only get a change of sheets if you’re staying two weeks, even with all the sand, sweat, and sunscreen a beach vacation entails. Also, bring a spatula. And if you are more than four, silverware. And maybe a pot.

Quaint little cottages.

  • 3 of 5

This was very cozy. We used space heater all the time due to cold weather and the bathroom is very tiny however it served our needs and in warmer weather the perfect beach setting. We did blow a breaker but the maintenance person was there in just a few minutes, and they also brought a second space heater that really helped us stay toasty during the unseasonable cold weather. The cottage is just steps away from the new walking sidewalk that goes all along the beach front ! So if you are there as a couple fits two persons and has enough acoutriments for basic simple cooking!

great location right on the beach!

  • 4 of 5

i couldn't have asked for a better location right on the beach! the cottage was a little rustic (could use some maintance.) the recreation fee was so worth the hassle of dragging your own stuff around. Plenty for room for two adults and two children. the grocery store, restaurants and cool shops were all within walking distance!

HORRIBLE/ DISGUSTING!

  • 1 of 5

Room rates advertised are no where near the actual charge per night but the worst part is the a/c wall until are so small that from noon until after 9pm your SWEATING so badly its actually cooler sitting outside in the sun. Then you try to crawl into bed after suffering heat stroke only to find the mattress from 1950 is made out of what seems to be plywood and springs. These units are Horribly maintained, the bathroom is the smallest I've ever seen, takes at least twice to flush just for #1, not to mention you have to BRING YOUR OWN TOILET PAPER" (yes, not even a single roll when I checked in); Your at least 1/4 mile from the beach itself, you are on the sand but so far from the ocean you cannot hear the waves. No where to walk the dogs, a very old/weathered post that once held doggie bags I'm sure hasn't seen any in decades. This is the biggest DUMP I've ever seen, and I'm no princess but i do expect the AIR to work so that my dogs don't sit there panting the entire time. Note: I did of course call for maintenance to check out the a/c unit Saturday night, I was told I could walk across the street to Publix and buy a fan. When I threatened to call Division of Hotels they said they would bring one right over...48 hours later, after a 3rd email, I got a knock on the door. They pretty much confirmed the owner/management knew but didnt want to do anything about it. Please, don't be SCAMMED into this place like I was.

Owner's Response: We are terribly sorry that your experience at Seahorse Cottage 2 was disappointing and fell short of your expectations. Your feedback has been noted and shared with our staff. We make every effort to ensure that our guests enjoy their stay at all of our managed properties. The cottages are a little quirky to say the least, but well maintained and cared for, and the on-site staff will happily address any issues that occur. The bathroom is small, and it is important to note that these were built in the 1930’s. The air conditioner has been replaced within the last year, but August in Florida is just simply hot. While starter supplies are placed in the cottages, these are considered self-accommodating and incidentals can be purchased at Publix which is conveniently located across the street. Thanks for making us aware of the inadequate doggie station and we will gladly address that improvement. Again, these eclectic cottages epitomize that “old Florida” style and ambience. They are dog friendly, budget friendly, and sit directly on a gorgeous award winning beach. We hope future travelers will read the many favorable comments about the Seahorse Cottages and decide accordingly. Jeff and Gina
