A Lovely 3 Bedroom 2 Bath Great Room Layout With Views To Ponds And Pastures.
A comfortable, conveniently located country lodging. This remodeled three bedroom ranch style house, with board and batten look, is the essence of quintessential small town America--superb for a weekend getaway for two or an extended stay with friends or family.
Relax on the front porch of a summers eve or gather around the fireplace when outside temperatures cool. Sit under the spreading “pecan” tree, enjoying the prairie breeze while serenaded by natures musicians. Enjoy a variety of games in the great room or the great outdoors.
The great room layout exudes a “hearth-warming” ambiance under the spaciousness of vaulted ceilings. The fireplace seating, cozy and relaxing, invites tranquil conversation. This is the ideal setting to enjoy an after dinner beverage and revisit the pleasures of the day. The formal dining area is large enough for all to be comfortably seated. The well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar provides dining, as well as, entertaining options.
When it's time to retire, nestle into a snug restful slumber, in this “down home” country cottage. You'll have three bedrooms from which to choose. The master has a queen size bed and a full bath, complete with tub or shower, and walk in closet. Before dimming the lights at the close of a splendid day, relax in a bedside chair with that book you've been waiting to read.
The remaining bedrooms have their own walk-in closets and are each arranged a little differently. A pair of single beds, in the east room, provides individual sleeping accommodations. After a restful sleep enjoy the morning sun delightfully streaming into your room.
The other is presented as a sitting room with a welcoming daybed for casually lounging in solitude. The daybed is combined with a hide away trundle, which can be made up as separate beds or pushed together as a cozy sleeper for two. The North facing window provides a view of the pasture where our longhorn “Junior” resides.
The main bathroom is located near to the extra bedrooms just off the great room. The full bath has a generous shower, toilet and vanity, complemented by a tile floor.
We are a little off the beaten path but we are right on track for those who don't follow the crowd. We have a doghouse with run for ”Fido” and a corral or pasture for your horses. Enjoy exploring, with the kids and critters, the bucolic setting that surrounds you. There is a rails to trails access close by or, you can explore the back roads on horseback, bicycle or afoot. Scout the sulfur river bed for fossils or hunt for antiques and other treasures from here to Canton.
The great outdoors is big as life, to hunt, fish or photograph. Mother Natures’ best is as near as the backdoor. We are a dragonfly and butterfly mecca with several varieties frequenting this area. We are on the path for migrating birds including hummingbirds, geese and the occasional duck flock that come to feed and rest in our pond near the cottage.
The nearby city of Commerce includes a small FBO airport and Texas A&M university. The campus has a theater, planetarium and fitness center to be enjoyed by all. Basic shopping needs can be met, at the several stores and shops, around the town.
The DFW metro area is little more than an hour away for those who can't stay away from the city life. Bring your laptop and make use of our WiFi for work or play. Most cell phone systems work in our area so bring it along.

About C.D."Chris" Porter
We are Chris and Kathy, owners of Porter-O'Fannin an agricultural CSA enterprise, Farming Future Concept. We share the place with a collection of cattle, a llama, a few dogs to assist us and a couple of cats to keep the unwanted population down. We enjoy travel, dining out and theater. Unfortunately, we don't have very much time for those interests, but we do enjoy what we have.
C.D."Chris" Porter purchased this House in 2004
Why C.D."Chris" Porter chose Ladonia
The ofannin ranch house is part of the farm property that we bought and established a CSA(consumer supported agriculture). You can learn about this in greater detail on our website. We wanted to make it possible for shareholders to have a place to stay when visiting the farming operation. It was just a natural extension of that to make the ofannin ranch house available to everyone. We have always liked the area and when we moved here we started promoting the community. Those who are not totally jaded will fall in love with the pleasant surroundings as we did. We find, as you will, that there is something new to learn about or experience every day.
What makes this House unique
Aside from having little to complain about in this area, you will take in some of the nicest prairie landscape. Ride the trails or the backroads with your horse or bike. Take a leisurely stroll while enjoying the rural Texas landscape. We are in the middle of, and close to everything that goes on in, North East Texas.

Serene, Comfy, Homelike
When we first saw the outside, we were doubtful that we had made a good choice (the yard could have used a bit of tidying up). but once inside, we were pleasantly surprise. Clean and neat, had a warm cozy atmosphere. It was quiet and relaxing!!!!! The first night we felt so comfortable that we quickly thought of it as being home. The Christmas decorations were festive but not over-exaggerated. The little extras, music, books, and games were very appropriate and geared to different age levels and interests. We enjoyed them very much. Just sitting, enjoying the quiet and watching the animals led to so much creative conversation, bringing back beautiful memories. We would gladly return.
Only regret is that we did not get to meet Chris in person. He was so courteous and friendly on the phone. Thank you, Chris, for opening your home.
Our only regret was that we did not get to see the Morales clan in person. They were excellent guests and left the home in, maybe, better shape then when they came in. We would recommend them to any property owner but, we hope they will in fact, come back for each of the seasons which are splendidly different.
The house was warm, welcoming and wonderfully decorated for Christmas!
Chris went the extra mile to give us a wonderful home away from home Christmas with added touches that made our stay great! We enjoyed watching the animals and the peacefulness of the area! Chris was never intrusive but always available if we needed anything or had questions - thank you for your patience with me, Chris! If you’re considering the Offannin Ranch House you won’t be disappointed!
It is really difficult to be a bad host when you are confronted with such nice guests. We have been blessed with so many and Patricia is certainly one of them. We do hope she will return in the not to distant future.
Comfortable, Cosy, Country Home
This house is a nice get-a-way location for a family that wants to spend time together. The open kitchen, dining, living area was great for cooking together and playing games. The lack of a TV meant more face time for everyone. Nice size closets for every bedroom were a plus. The house is very cute and comfortable, but fairly isolated , so it is a bit of a trek to anywhere you may want to go. We enjoyed this house and may come stay again.
A cute little house with a great front porch to relax on
We had 5 people staying at the house and there was plenty of room for all. The house itself had everything we needed!
Cute older little country house in a quiet small country town
Loved that the house was decorated for Christmas. It was very roomy and everything we could have needed was there. The kids enjoyed getting to feed the cows and llama. Chris was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed. We explored all the little towns around. Fossil hunted in Ladonia... movies, bowling, veterans memorial, and Eiffel tower in Paris.....explored old cemeteries & historical markers nearby.... Ate at Luigi's in Commerce (planned to go to the Children's museum but it was closed for the holidays)....... Went to the town square and shopped, played checkers and chess on the giant boards, and enjoyed the Christmas decorations- (glass bathrooms were interesting)and Buford park in Sulphur Springs (planned to go to the Dairy Museum but it was also closed for the holidays).... We took different backroads everytime so we got to see lots of the countryside. We hope to come again in the spring to enjoy the beautiful countryside and hunt for fossils.
Quiet getaway, well equipped
Very spacious for family, all the kitchen tools, nice grill, quaint views, friendly and helpful host. Kids loved game selection. Feeding, petting cows was fun. Also invited to a neighbor's farm (while visiting a church) where they got to feed chickens and pigs! Ants in kitchen a bit of a hassle.
Ladonia is a tiny older town hoping to grow with a planned lake. They currently have a water issue we read about on city website so bring your own... host provided a good bit in fridge. Lots of fossils to find in nearby park. Didn't make it into Commerce but host had a lot of info on things there that would be fun, too!
A favorite activity in the area is artifact hunting in the sulphur river bed that is just north of Ladonia. The local area is a mecca for dragonfly and damselfly viewing and study Ladonia is on the migration route of the monarch butterfly, which makes for a very colorful time of the year. We try to keep the natural plants that attract them.
