Enjoy spectacular views of Penobscot Bay while enjoying this generous property with two quaint, newly restored cottages along the Shore Road. Shore Acres includes 440' of private shoreline and some of the best views of Penobscot Bay out to Isleboro and Blue Hill beyond. The main cottage has one bedroom with spectacular waterfront view, one bath, fully equipped renovated kitchen opens on to a sitting room with 6-seat eating area. Separate living room includes a pull-out couch, dresser and private door and opens onto an ample, new deck. Each room has a water view. The adjacent cottage, with enclosed porch, is original to the site, sleeps three and is perfect for older children. There is a large picnic table and grill for outdoor eating and the deck is perfect for morning coffee. Adirondack chairs overlook the bay and just past the old sail house are steps down to the private beach. Perfect to launch your kayak or take a beach chair down for a nap. Great home base to explore the beauty of mid-coast Maine, from Owls Head to Mt. Desert Island. A short walk to the beach at Kelly Cove and a 10-minute walk to the terrific 9-hole Northport Golf Club or the historic Village of Bayside with options for sailing, swimming, or family fun at the playground on the beautiful village green. Great for families or as a quiet getaway for couples or friends.
We have loved this stretch of Maine since 1993 when we got off Route One and wandered along the Shore Road to find the very special Village of Bayside. We rented for 15 years at Kelly Cove, a short walk from our cottage, and saw a dream come true when we purchased Shore Acres last summer from our wonderful neighbor whose family had owned it since the 1940s. We spend as much time there as possible and look only for renters who will care for it as their own in our absence.
Jamie purchased this cottage in 2013
Our family of five had a great time at Shore Acres! Our three boys enjoyed the bunk house, while we had the cottage to ourselves. We weren't in there much because there was so much to explore on the enormous beach! So fun to find crabs, starfish, sand dollars and more when the tide was out! The area is rich in history and great to walk around and explore. The location of the cottage is great! A short trip to Camden or Belfast, and only 1 1/2 hours to Acadia. Perfect!
Our vacation at Shore Acres surpassed expectations. It's conveniently located - just far enough away from Route 1 for complete quiet and close enough to make getting anywhere for touring, food etc perfect. Cottage owners Jamie and John left us a chilled bottle of wine to welcome us as well as a pictorial "history" of Shore Acres which became theirs very recently. The main house is perfect for two adults or two adults with young children (sofa bed) while the bunkhouse provides space for pre-teen/teenagers who need their own space. The only downside is that there is a single bathroom and it's in the main house - Nothing quite beats waking up to sunrise on Penobscot Bay - we were lucky 6 days of 7. What separates Northport from so many other rental areas is that it is a walking area - real people live here it's not just for tourists so cars are pedestrian friendly.
The historic village of Bayside is a short walk offering a nine-hole golf course, sailing and a village green with playground. The coastline offers endless opportunity for beach walks and kayaking. Camden HIlls is 15 minutes and Acadia National Park is a generous hour, both by car. The nearest town is Belfast, a vibrant, arts-centered town featuring the marvelous Belfast Co-op and many good restaurants and pubs. Arts and music festivals abound during the summer from Rockland to Belfast.
