Warm, welcoming cottage--A special place to make special memories

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for something fancy & modern, this is not for you. If you want a place that is welcoming, makes you feel at home & relaxed, this is it. View of salt pond is clear of any houses & dock is 500 yds. from steps. Beautiful stars & pounding of waves heard. Very clean & maintained. Owner puts in love with flowers, veggie plot & herbs. Always available to answer questions. I selfishly did not want to write my best review ever because it's a slice of heaven there, but had to share to be fair to others who want to make special memories. We ate at Champlin's Seafood Restaurant that local residents recommended as the freshest & best. The seafood was excellent & the view by the water wonderful. Also ate at the Chinese Buffet in Westerley. Sushi & hot meals made to order, endless buffet, helpful & friendly, only $15! Bike ride to Charlestowne Beach less than 10 min. Drive about same. Did some crabbing & fishing off dock. Visited Umbrella Factory that had interesting & local items. Feed friendly chickens & see other animals. Kids will enjoy as much as adults. Kayaks + available. They deliver & pick up. Went to Peaches Fruit & Produce on beach road numerous times. Amazing Oct. corn--maybe better than the silver queen we grew down south this summer. Fresh breads delivered daily--get there early or forget about it. Merlot wine steak sauce out of this world & onion blossom horseradish dip and so much more. Don't forget their great pies & pastries. 1 review said they were very rude--if so, then he must have been obnoxious & they didn't want his kind of business. They were wonderful to us & put up with my joking & asked 2nd visit about seeing our grandson for 1st time and how things were going in SC with our family & land after the hurricane hit. No matter where you go, how rich you are or aren't, the locals deserve your respect. Most make some extra money during tourist season, but do just fine without it. And most are happy when tourists go home & stop speeding through their neighborhoods, so they can safely let their children ride tricycles/bicycles & walk their dogs again. I hope you will publish the last part as people need to be reminded to respect where they visit. There was so much more to be seen there. When we go to RI next, Anita's cottage is the only place for us.

Perfect spot to relax

  • 5 of 5

This 2 bedroom get away is the perfect place to relax. Quiet and clean we enjoyed the peaceful views of a salt pond from both the deck and screened porch. A light breeze is your constant companion. Close to the beach if you wish or just stay put and enjoy the serenity.

Terrific week in Charlestown!

  • 5 of 5

What a truly great place. The screened in porch was where we spent most of our time. The views of the pond were so relaxing! The neighborhood is quiet and it was just what we were looking for. The pictures of the property were accurate, but really, much BETTER in person. The deck was wonderful for grilling and nice airy bedrooms. The kitchen and living area were more than adequate and loaded with supplies. Lots of toys in the cellar, which we didn't use, but available if you wanted them. What we did use was the plastic dinette table which we brought up to the porch (and we returned to it's spot later) and we had all of our meals there.

The beach pass allowed you to go to both beaches, Charlestown Beach and Blue shutters Beach.

The size was perfect for myself, my husband and our dog. Not one complaint and Anita was great to work with.

And Charlestown has a new upscale restaurant! The Breachway Grill. Terrific food and live music!

We will definitely try to book again next time in South County. Thank you, Anita, for sharing your home!

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just as delightful as we had hoped! Clean, cozy, and with a fabulous screened deck. We had everything that we needed here. The kitchen was well-outfitted, and we were able to prepare a number of meals. Our almost seven year-old son loved the ORCA beach just down the road and Ninigret Pond. We all had fun biking around. There's even a kids' bike, in case you can't bring your own. We really enjoyed sitting at the raw bar at the Breachway Grill at the beginning and end of our trip. Anita, the owner, provided excellent customer service. We would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful view, great screened in deck, nice, comfortable cottage in a lovely neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this property the third week of June and loved it. We both grew up in New England but live in New Mexico now and wanted to revisit our experiences at the Rhode Island beaches. We were not disappointed. We thought this cottage would be perfect for the two of us and it was. The pictures and descriptions we saw online were representative of the property and cottage. However, the best surprise was how beautiful the view of the salt pond really is from the deck. Loved watching the Canadian geese and the white egret that showed up each afternoon. The town beach is great and about a 15 minute walk from the cottage. There are many other beaches in the area as well.

We didn't eat out too often but thought the Beachway Grille and Matunuk Oyster Bar and the ice cream at Vanilla Bean were definitely worth the visit. We really enjoyed the lighthouse cruise through Narragansett Bay from Quonset Point. If you don't have time to got to Newport it is a great way to see at least some of it when the boat travels slowly through the harbor. The tour guide was very informative which made the cruise that much better.

Charlestown and the surrounding communities are quiet and friendly. If beautiful beaches and scenery are what you are looking for, this is an ideal place and this cottage is the perfect place to stay. The owner of this property is a great person to work with and if our travels take us back to this area of the country, we will definitely stay at this property again.

The house is across the street from Green Hill Pond. The pond is part of a network of astoundingly beautiful salt ponds that are great for fishing, kayaking and birding. As the map shows the house is about 1/2 mile from the ocean beach
