This house is at a good location. There were plenty supplies such as cooking stuff and eating utensils in the kitchen. Our granddaughter loved all the toys. Enough towels for 8-10 people. It is a wonderful house for the price. Definitely will stay there again.
We stayed in the house for just under 2 weeks. We were in town for a world competition and had several family and friends stay with us throughout the time. The house is very nice. The kitchen is beautiful, there are 3 nice bathrooms and several beds (on one night we were able to sleep 12 people). The large grill in the back was great. The neighborhood is very secluded and the private beach was close by. The subway was only 5 minutes away and is suggest using it if heading into DC.
Overall, this is a beautiful house that is basically like a home away from home. Everything we needed was supplied and it made our vacation very smooth. It was great to have everyone under one roof and worked out much better than everyone having to get a hotel room. I'd definitely stay here again if ever in the DC area.
We spent 10 wonderful days in this home. Jon, the owner, was very good with communication before, during, and after our stay. The house is deceptively larger than it looks from the outside. Having the lake just down the road elevated it to a new level. I loved staying in the Lake Barcroft community. The owners provided plenty of towels for bath and beach, as well as beach chairs and a wagon for the walk down. It was like a little vacation right in the middle of Falls Church!
The house has a beautiful, huge kitchen full of pretty much everything you'd need to cook with, and 5 bedrooms. The only slight negative for us was the fact that two of the nice bedrooms downstairs only had a crib or toddler bed so we had to use a blowup mattress, but if you had small kids the rooms would have been perfect. Would definitely stay at this house again if given the chance!
The house appeared to be the home of the Owner who simply loaded up and left during our stay. There were personal items in the closets and dresser drawers. The refrigerator was left with condiments and some spoiled food, which we immediately took care of, and the cabinets were stocked with dry goods. The sun room was LOADED with toys suitable for a toddler.
The advertisement said that it sleeps 10, and it does. However, two of the three bedrooms downstairs were furnished with children's furniture (one with a toddler bed and the other with a crib and changing table). These were furnished with blow-up mattresses, so it worked for us, but one of the mattresses leaked and had to be refilled every morning. If this is truly a short term rental property, they should be furnished with actual beds (two twin size beds would fit into these rooms nicely).
The two upstairs bedrooms were furnished with a double futon in one and a double/queen bed in the other, but the mattress was deformed. One of these rooms actually served as a den. It was the only location for a TV in the home. I guess that was ok, we didn't watch one minute of TV during the whole vacation.
It appears that a great deal of work has been done to update this home. The 3 bathrooms were done very nicely, as was the kitchen. The furnishing were suitable and adequate. The outdoor patio too was nice to grill and entertain.
We rented this home because of it's size. We were a large party of several families converging here from different areas of the US and it worked well for us. The location was good, not too far from required amenities and the DC area which was ideal for us.
I guess the only negative was the oddity of having the personal belongings in the dressers and closets, and the sun porch consumed by children's toys. Traditionally, a short term rental home will have an "Owner's Closet" which locks away personal belongings. This definitely felt like we moved into someone's personal home rather than a sterile kind of housing situation.
I would suggest that this is an ideal location, excellent floor plan for larger groups, the property was well maintained and clean. I would further suggest that if this is in fact a REAL short term rental property, that the Owner find a better way to store his personal belongings, make the refrigerators part of the cleaning regiment, and rethink the sleeping arrangements in the downstairs bedrooms.
Overall nice place.
