Oakhurst Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Located just minutes from the Historic Sierra National Scenic Byway. Offering easy access to historic sites, hiking, mountain biking, off-road vehicle trails/roads, fishing, and swimming in Bass Lake (just 10 minutes away). Also conveniently located within minutes is the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park, the quaint town of Oakhurst, a local snow park, Badger Pass Ski Resort, the historic Sugar Pine Railroad and much more.

The 'Fire Escape' cabin earned its name because of the vacation 'escape' that it offers the fire-fighter-owner and family. The interior decor includes fun fire service accents, making the visit fun, comfortable and unique.

From the front or back decks you are surrounded with Ponderosa Pines, Cedar, Manzanita and Oak trees. Families of deer often pass through the properties, offering a true mountain feel.

This affodable mountain cabin is in a central location, making it perfect for enjoying Sierra Mountains.

About Pablo & Kelly Barreto

Our family includes myself and my husband, as well as our three children. We love to camp, garden, swim, hike and vacation. We also enjoy music and photography. My husband is in the fire service and I am a flight attendant. We live on the Central Coast of California. We are involved with our children's activities and their schools making it hard to enjoy our cabin and the mountains as often as we would like. We enjoy sharing our cabin with others and knowing they will enjoy the wonderful experiences that the area offers.

Pablo & Kelly Barreto purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Pablo & Kelly Barreto chose Yosemite Area

After 10 years of visiting the Oakhurst/Bass Lake area we decided to purchase a second home there. We had dreamed of buying in the area for several years and often visited properties during our vacations. We purchased the cabin in 2004, but rented it to a full time tenant almost immediatly. We had several tenants over the years and didn't consider using it as a vacation home until February of 2009. We stocked the home with all of the comforts that other rentals we had stayed in offered. We also chose to decorate the cabin with items from the fire service, as we enjoyed the idea of sharing the toys/decor that we have collected over the years.

The location of the cabin is perfect for our needs. It is in a wooded residential neighborhood, offering the feeling of being in the mountains, but not feeling isolated. The drive into Yosemite is a short and scenic drive. The quaint town of Oakhurst offers all of the amenities that we need. From a movie theater to grocery stores. But our favorite is Bass Lake! We love the warm water and incredible views of the tree lined shores and scenic mountain backgrounds.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin offers a wonderful central location. Some of the areas and activities that we have enjoyed while in the area include: Historic Yosemite Flats Park, trail rides on horse back, the historic Sierra Skyranch Inn (They offer some interesting ghost sighting stories and have been featured on several TV shows lately). We also have enjoyed a little gambling at Chuckcansi Casino in Coarsegold. A drive down historic Hwy 49 an hour or so are some of the historic gold country towns that we have enjoy visiting that include: Mariposa and (my kids favorite) Colombia. We have heard from several of our past renters that the central location for perfect for their visit to the area. We are thrilled they agree!

Felt Like Home

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 was very comfortable in this home for our 4-day stay. It was exactly as described and had everything we needed including a good internet connection for our teenagers. We felt right at home(even used the "junk drawer") and especially enjoyed watching the wildlife while sitting on the back deck during breakfast and dinner. This included quail, turkey and many black tail deer with fawns. Given its location close to Yosemite, but not too far from town, we could see why folks own homes in the area. Loved the BBQ at Alice's. Coming from the flat land of the midwest, we found the mountain driving to be a little intimidating at times, especially up to Glacier Point. But the views were worth it. Also not too far(2-2.5hrs) from Kings Canyon and Sequoia Parks which we also visited. A great location to enjoy all the Sierra Nevada mountains have to offer. The owners provided a lot of information on the area. We wish we could have spent more time and as there was too much to do and see in our short stay. Would recommend to others while visiting the area.

Adequate stay for 3 adults and 3 teens

  • 3 of 5

Nice home with plenty of beds for our group. One bathroom was a bit tough, but we made it work. Did not use the deck and was a bit disappointed in the cleanliness, called the cleaner and they did offer to comeback in. There was need for vacuuming and too much food crumbs in the couch, which just left an unclean feel. Would not stay again but others may not feel likewise. Good location for our tour of a fantastic National Park!

The cabin met all our needs. Our kids loved the upstairs rooms and the toys. My wife and I loved sitting out on the back porch in the evening. An extra treat was discovering the Shadow of the Giants Sequoia grove a short drive up the hill from the Cabin. Thanks for sharing the cabin!

Fire Escape Cabin - What a cool place!

  • 5 of 5

Close access to the park. The cabin is conveniently arranged for families, comfortably furnished, and charmingly decorated. Our week's stay couldn't have been better. Oakhurst is a great little town with anything you might need. If we get back to Yosemite (so many parks, so little time) we will check availability of this cabin first.

Cozy and Comfortable Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Had a great experience and wonderful stay while visiting Yosemite. Cabin is as described and true to pictures, well maintained and clean. Does seem bigger than the stated size. Plenty of pots ,pans, and dishes. Vons and Raley's grocery stores close by. Kelly was very helpful with directions and suggestions. If you are going to Yosemeti it will still take approximately an hour and twenty minuets each way to the Valley Floor. Do yourself a favor and hike the Lewis Creek Trail, Fresno Dome , and Nelder Grove with the giant Sequoias, all fairly close to the cabin. After eating lunch in Yosemeti we were happy to return to the cabin for a good home cooked dinner. Miss falling asleep to the sound of frogs, crickets and other wildlife noises. Would stay here again when visiting Yosemeti.
