Overview

Costa Rica House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 additional pull out beds, sleeps 6-8

This is your chance to completely escape the monotonous grind of everyday life and rejuvenate your body and mind with a healthy dose of natural beauty, active adventure, rustic luxury, and cultural authenticity. All five senses will be on full alert here…each one contributing to an overall sense of joy and relaxation. Start your mornings with the sounds of howler monkeys, the sight of tropical sunrises, and the aroma of Costa Rican coffee that would put Starbucks to shame. Fill your days with a plethora of river, ocean, or rainforest adventure – all available directly from your front steps. Finally, wind down the evening watching the flight of white ibis across the sunset over Isla Violin with a cold cervesa or mojito in hand. Sound like paradise to you...we think so too!

Our home's location on the Sierpe River – a fully navigable river that flows into the Pacific Ocean – serves as a direct connection to all of the best adventure activities that Costa Rica is known for. Accessible directly from the front steps of the cabina are 5 kilometers of hiking trails that weave through primary rainforest, wetlands, mangroves, and 3 tropical fruit filled gardens - great for wildlife watching and birding. Feel free to help yourself to the fruit, the resident monkeys certainly do! Four kayaks are stored on-site and are yours to use for exploring the river and its tributaries. Are you a fan of fishing? If so, you’ll be glad to know that some sizable red snapper and snook have been caught from the two riverfront piers. For adrenaline junkies some pretty intense mountain biking and horseback riding trails connect the property to the Mirimar mountain range to the south. Just want to relax?...then you'll love the lounger and hammock on the deck overlooking the river..

In addition to the on-site activities, it is highly recommended that you arrange for a variety of tour boats to pick you up at the riverfront dock for some of the ocean related activities that have made this area so popular with tourists. Favorites include deep-sea fishing (world class in-shore and off-shore), snorkeling, diving (Costa Rica’s most renowned), wildlife watching in Corcovado National Park, Cano Island hiking, snorkeling, surfing, beach cruises, and dolphin and whale watching. All of these tours can easily be arranged for you by the owner and are of a very high quality.

The home itself is brand new and was built in the signature “refined rustic” style of our Canadian builder. Large beamed exotic hardwoods combine with lofted ceilings and ample use of screened in windows to emphasize views of, and harmony with, the natural surroundings. A 300 sq. ft. veranda has rocking chairs, a breakfast nook, and lounger available to relax in while enjoying the amazing views. Despite being very isolated and completely “off the grid”, a very large solar system, on demand hot water, and 3G cell phone will keep you comfortable and connected. Ask about internet. King and queen sized beds, 500 thread count sheets, and custom built furniture convey a true sense of luxury in the jungle. One of two spacious 3/4 baths with high volume/pressure showers connect directly to first floor bedroom and living area, while the other is located in the upstairs master suite. The kitchen/dining area seats up to 9 and has a 6 burner oven/stove, fridge, and freezer.

While the enjoyment of our river retreat provides the ultimate in tranquility, beauty, and seclusion, it must be said that this experience is better geared towards those who are adventurous, independent, and enjoy physical activities. The walk to the cabina from the boat dock is the equivalent of a few blocks and involves a large hill. While the home is very new and provides a wide range of modern comforts and conveniences, you must remember that you are “off the grid” and in the middle of a tropical rainforest. This cabin does not have air conditioning, but 9 overhead fans and a design utilizing cross-ventilation measures keeps the cabina comfortable. In our version of paradise we sacrifice air conditioning for air of the purest condition!

This home is not suitable for children aged 2 or younger and the infirm. Ask about suitability for children aged 3-6 and the elderly.

About Cassidy Scheer

My father and I built this home in 2010 but have been visitors and business owners in the Sierpe River area since 2006. We live in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, but try to visit Costa Rica as often as possible.

Cassidy Scheer purchased this house in 2010

Why Cassidy Scheer chose Costa Rica

Nowhere else in Costa Rica can you access the rainforest, river, and Pacific Ocean right out your front door. I place a big value on authenticity and access to outdoor adventure activities. Sierpe is the best spot for this in Costa Rica. Waking up to the sound of toucans and eating fresh picked fruit for breakfast before going out to the ocean to fish, snorkel, dive, or surf, is a regular day here!

What makes this house unique

This is the real Costa Rica. This is the Costa Rica you see on National Geographic magazine!

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

This was a serene, beautiful home for our four nights in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. The information Cassidy provides is invaluable for an enjoyable stay. He will answer all your questions and prepare you for an off the gird experience if you listen to his tips and prepare accordingly. The house has unbelievable views in every direction. The screening on all sides allows breezes to come through. We were at the house in June. It was the rainy season but the rain was no problem. It was every day, but with rain suits and realizing you are in a rain forest, it was simply part of the ambiance. While sitting on the wonderful deck with very comfortable rockers you heard boats coming and going on the Sierpe all day. Sitting there just listening and enjoying the beauty was so serene and peaceful. After two days with tours we spent one day relaxing at the house. It was a great way to end our stay. We left feeling rested and refreshed instead of tired and rushed.

Everyone we dealt with on this excursion was wonderful. You definitely want to use Rayna to book your tours and activities. She is very quick to respond to questions and requests. The tours to Cano Island and Corcovado were super. She has found wonderful, top notch people to provide an unforgettable experience for you. Steven and crew for Cano Island and Caesar for Corcovado were very knowledgeable and caring.

The house is very clean with comfortable beds. The views from both bedrooms is amazing. We saw butterflies, Toucans, green parrots, Macaws, Howler and white faced monkeys, with a crocodile near the dock. The walk from the dock to the house is a bit of a climb, but very doable.

Remote getaway in Costa Rica

  • 4 of 5

Just returned from six nights here and really enjoyed it. There were four of us - three adults (my husband and I and our 23-year-old niece) and our 11-year-old son. When we first started thinking about Costa Rica, it was all a little overwhelming. I told my son that if he wanted to read through the guide book, he could choose our location. He chose Osa Peninsula because of the wildlife and because it's less travelled than the rest of the country. With that narrowed down, Cassidy's place was one of the few rental homes that seemed appealing.

Overall, we had a great experience. Keep in mind, though, while not exactly roughing it, it's a far cry from the all-inclusive eco-resorts found in Drake Bay and around Costa Rica. If you're fully aware of that going in, you'll really enjoy it. It's a beautiful house with a great back deck overlooking the forest and river - perfect for those afternoons when you can't do anything else because it's just too hot! There's plenty of wildlife to see. On our first afternoon, a family of howler monkeys passed by the back deck at about the same time as a pair of scarlet macaws. It was a lot to take in! And yes, the howler monkeys will wake you up every morning, but it's the best time to be up anyway.

Pay attention to the information that Cassidy sends. It's very helpful. And definitely use Rayna Levin to set up your tours. She was extremely helpful - even got us another boat when our Caño Island tour group left us on the dock! And be sure to ask for Cesar. He was our guide for Corcovado and the night tour. He has a passion for what he does and went out of his way to make sure my son got to see most of the animals that he had on his list. Oh, and he also walked us back to the house after the night tour when he realized that we'd forgotten a flashlight. I'm not sure we would have made it without him.

This place is great for families. There's a lot of time for sitting around playing cards or bananagrams.

Make sure you bring all of the food that you need.

Some might consider the solar power a drawback, but we kind of had fun with it. We lost power overnight on our first night and still really can't figure out why, except that the refrigerator was set cooler than it should have been. (It was that way when we arrived.) After that, we were constantly checking the monitor to see how fully charged the house was. It was kind of a game in itself.

It's a steep walk to the house, but it's manageable. Be prepared to sweat!

The Highlight of Our Costa Rica Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the best time at Adventurer's Paradise. It was the highlight (among many highlights) of our first trip to Costa Rica and exceeded our expectations. Before we even arrived Cassidy provided so much useful information on packing and a great description of tours he could help arrange. We appreciated the food list ideas to get at the store (loved the ahumada tuna)! We are so glad we started our trip at Adventurer's Paradise as it was a great way to learn about Costa Rica. Our tours and guides that Cassidy and Guillermo arranged were awesome. We are so glad we did the Corcovado/Sirena station tour as we saw so much. The Mangrove night tour and the Cano Island trips were fantastic. Fabulous boat rides all around! We were thankful we had Sunday to explore the area around Sierpe del Pacifico including the trails and garden! Capuchin monkeys, morpho butterflies, toucans (and many other butterflies and birds) were seen from the house or trails daily. No need for an alarm clock as the howler monkeys let you know it is time to get up and enjoy the adventure! This is a special place and we hope to return some day. Guillermo was an amazing and generous host.

Sierpe del Pacifico is a unique getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The host who met us (Guillermo) was helpful in every way and speaks excellent English. The house is really fabulous, and we found it such a relaxing place to spend time. It has plenty of room for 2 couples. Others have described it accurately in terms of what you will experience there. We loved taking the kayaks out (yes, there are crocodiles but they avoid the kayaks and just slip away from the boats). Because we were there in the off-season, there was not too much traffic up and down the river so thumbing a lift to the mainland wasn't really an option. However, transport can be arranged with SDP. They provided us with a local cell phone which was very helpful. There is a propane-fired barbecue on a separate deck and this was very useful for cooking the amazing fish we bought directly from a fishing boat on the return from a day at Corcovado NP. We are in our early 50's, in reasonable shape, and the hill to the house was just fine.

Fantastic jungle home

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at the Sierpe del Pacifico property. If you are looking for a wild Costa Rican adventure, then you won't be disappointed. The home is beautiful, and the views stunning. We were awakened by howler monkeys every morning and found them sleeping on the property during the day, and most mornings a large troupe of white-faced capuchin monkeys passed right by the house. There were lots of birds to watch, and a fruit garden to go pick your own fruit...paradise found! We took a night tour of the mangrove and saw mammals (including squirrel monkeys), birds, crocs, caimans and snakes. We took a horseback riding tour and were wowed by the generosity of Rosita and her family on their farmstead; we went fishing in the ocean and caught five species of fish including red snapper, albacore tuna and roosterfish - while seeing porpioses and sea turtles to boot! The house is well equipped, the staff are welcoming and friendly. When we went in March it was hot and humid for us northerners - an outdoor shower might be a nice addition to the property for a quick cool down - but all in all we were wowed with this portion of our trip.

Unique Experience

  • 5 of 5

We just ended 4 wonderful nights at the house. The house is very comfortable, relaxing, and has everything you really need. Before you arrive you are sent all the information about the house, area, tours, what to bring, etc. They are important and if followed you will have a great experience. The hike to the house is challenging, it’s all up hill but the views are worth the climb. We did a bit of hiking and found a Boa Constrictor on the path to the fruit garden. The Capuchins are in the trees around the house most days.

Guillermo arranged for us 3 different tours while we were here. We went to Cano Island for snorkeling, River fishing with Guillermo, and a night mangrove safari. All were terrific. I would highly recommend the night mangrove you are able to see so much nature. Our guide David was so knowledgeable, showing us things we would have never seen on our own and learning about the area. As part of the tour you have dinner in town which was very nice. Bring flash lights the walk back to the house is dark but all part of the adventure.

This area and this house provide a unique experience you won’t find elsewhere.
