Overview

About the property

2 Br / Five Persons Max/ 1 Full Bath

Heron Ledge Cottages are nestled on the shore of Lake Champlain across from historic Valcour Island. The cottage shown on this listing is known as 'Lynn's Cottage' and has two bedrooms. This cottage compound is ideal for quiet stays, romantic getaways and nature-filled family vacations. The lake is situated between the NY Adirondack and the VT Green Mountains. We are very close to Snug Harbor Marina - Lake Champlain Boatworks and the NYS Peru Boat Launch. The cottage is freshly furnished with a fully-equipped kitchen. Cable TV, DVD player, linens and wireless internet are provided. Opportunities for sight-seeing and sport activities abound. We have hosted bass tournament winners. Stay for a week or get-away weekend (3 night minimum stays with higher nightly rates for shorter stays). The owner at this cabin provides 3 kayaks, 1 paddle boat and 1 canoe for guest use during the course of their stay. There are paddles and life vests available, but if you are an experienced paddler and have your own life vest, it is always best to wear your own as it will maximize your comfort level during your paddling experience. Life vest use is required during use of all owner-provided watercraft. This is a non-smoking property. NO pets are allowed. WEEK-LONG RENTALS ARE PREFERRED IN SUMMER.

Nearby activities: 3 golf courses; Ausable Chasm; Ferry to Vermont; Shelburne Museum; Ben and Jerry's; Vermont Teddy Bear Factory; Montreal, Canada; Skiing and Rock/Ice Climbing, Adirondack High Peaks; Hiking, Bicycling, Kayaking, Autumn leaf-peeping and fun at the site of two Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY.

Bass Tournament Hosts: Bass fishermen like the property because their equipment is kept private and safe. Bass boats can be attached to power and worked on under spot lights after dark if needed. One winning fisherman said that he liked the quiet so that he could concentrate better on his fishing gear and strategy.

Skiing: We are a 45 minute easy drive to Whiteface Mountain. Ski mountains in Vermont and Canada are about 2 hours away.

Cross-country skiing can be done near our property, on Lake Champlain when it is frozen, or at cross-country ski centers

in Lake Placid.

Hiking and Bicycling: People love to go to the different Adirondack High Peaks and then return to lakeside after the hikes.

Others bicycle all around the NY area near us, with some taking their bikes on the ferries to Vermont Islands or mainland

and returning via a different ferry later in the day.

Why Sue Carter chose Lake Champlain Valley

In their childhoods, owners Phoebe and Bruce were both fortunate to stay on lakes, small and large, in housekeeping cottages. We found this unique property and saw it as a way to preserve the 'old-fashioned', simple-pleasures vacation. Because their home is also here, they can live it and share it!

What makes this cottage unique

Direct access to Lake Champlain with a sandy beach. Across the street from the Kayak Shack which offers lessons, hourly or daily rentals and other tours and facilities. Please tell them that you are staying at Heron Ledge Cottages for additional customer service. Guests with boats on trailers may park them in a secluded lawn area and put the boats in and out of the water at the very nearby Peru NYS Boat Launch, which has a new dock (2014) and a great parking area. OR, the guests may choose to rent a slip next door at Lake Champlain Boatworks (Snug Harbour Marina) and just walk over each day. Those with friends and family in the area are encouraged to invite them for day visits with additional parking available on the lawn next to the driveway.

Great vacation getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Heron Ledge! Despite being close to the highway, 2 other cottages, a campground and a marina, it was remarkably quiet and very peaceful. We enjoyed the views of the lake and Valcour Island / Lighthouse from the deck of Lynn's Cottage, and we were most appreciative of the fully equipped kitchen, cable television, wi-fi, in-unit washer and dryer, and the really comfortable bed. The linens and dishes were top-notch, and I was able to find an appropriate pot / pan / dish for everything I prepared in the kitchen. We were close to many wonderful attractions, good restaurants and a variety of shopping opportunities---all of which we took advantage of! The owners and cleaning staff were most pleasant, and Sue, the realtor with whom we dealt when making our arrangements, was extremely helpful. It was a great experience, and we look forward to visiting again!

Simply the Best!

  • 5 of 5

As always, Phoebe and Bruce have made our stay the absolute best. The accommodations are superb and made our vacation well worth waiting for. The attention to detail and immaculate condition of the cabin have made this our first vacation choice for our last three consecutive family vacations.

I cannot recommend this property enough. If you want seclusion and privacy as well as being close to all the best of the Adirondacks, this is the place.
