Perfect cozy cabin for a long weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay here! Perfect vintage rustic cabin feel for a relaxing Labor Day Weekend. The quiet cove off the main lake was perfect for us. We brought our kayaks and explored the nature preserve on the other side of the cove. Cindy was extremely attentive and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

Cindy was a pleasure to work with! Help, friendly, and accommodating.

Property was as described and had everything we needed. The cabin comfortably slept 8 people and was a short walk down steps to the lake. Fire pit and grill were great!

OK but a few unpleasant surpises

  • 2 of 5

There was a few good things- Kitchen has everything you need. Appliances are fairly new and work well. The house was clean inside and the inside seemed well maintained. The grill worked very well and there was plenty of gas. The lake is gorgeous. The floating dock serviceable but could use a few more cleats. There is plenty of parking including an area near the road that we parked our trailer. Check in and out was a breeze.

Now some not so good - The house is very small and very loud. There are no conventional doors in the house. The doors are all made of plank pine with a latch for a door catch. The smallest noise in one room is heard clearly throughout the house. The bedding and the furniture are old and worn out. The mattresses are very hard, lumpy and uncomfortable. My adult children (who will sleep just about anywhere) chose to sleep on the futon mattress placed on the floor and on the floor itself instead of using one of the beds. The house is on the small side to begin with when you consider the square footage and to make matters worse, a lot of the square footage is unusable space. The house has had an addition that obviously used the roof that used to cover a porch. Walls were put under the roof and it became an addition. This resulted in a layout that has space that there is very little you can do with. The downstairs which is not much bigger than the width of a twin bed has a flagstone floor which used to be the outside patio. I can say this with reasonable confidence because it pitches significantly towards the back of the house making everything in the room lean. The downstairs bedroom became known as the dungeon for the week. The bathroom contains a small stand-up shower. The bathroom is so small that the door to the shower stall is significantly limited in how far it will open because it hits the toilet.

Outside is not well maintained. One portion of the deck showed signs of a recent repair but the rest of it was in need of attention. There were holes in the deck. The stone patio had loose stones. The steps going down the lake (and there were a ton of them, it is a long way down to the water) were loose and unstable. We resorted in several spots to hiking along side the steps at several places. The patio furniture is the cheapest of cheap plastic. It appears that the house is being milked for every penny. I booked late so I knew I was paying a premium but I feel I way overpaid for this house. I would not stay here again

Owner's Response: Dear Anonymous guest I will certainly share your concerns with the owner who does take pride in keeping the home comfortable for their guests. Each year improvements are made and there are items on our list that you have outlined that will be addressed in the off season. Mountain cabins are sometimes much different than most people expect - what one person finds annoying others find charming. I'm sorry you found it uncomfortable.

Welcome to the Hawley – Lake Wallenpaupack – Lake Pocono region of Pike and Wayne Counties. Two hours from New York City, and located in the Northeastern corner of Penn. bordering New York and New Jersey along the Delaware River, the region offers limitless opportunities for year-round fun and excitement as well as the quiet and serenity of country surroundings. The area is famous for its first class resorts, quaint historical towns of Milford, Scranton and Hawley and its natural scenic beauty, with waterfalls and lakes, including over 50 miles of shoreline of Lake Wallenpaupack. Family Attractions include family friendly venues such as the Claws’N'Paws Wild Animal, Costa’s Family Fun Park and water parks. If you’re really into water activities though, paddle, canoe, kayak or whitewater raft the Delaware River. While there, visit the Pocono Environmental Education Center and some of the amazing waterfront restaurants. Boat rentals and fishing are also very popular on the many lakes and other rivers around the area. It will be tough to stay just on the water though, when you’re surrounded by hundreds of scenic hiking and biking trails for exploring. One must-see spot is Bushkill Falls —the “Niagra Falls of Pennsylvania.”

If you or your loved ones enjoy golf, Cricket Hill Golf Course, Paupck Hills and Woodloch Springs are perfect for a round or two. After a morning on the course, spend an afternoon shopping at The Mall at Steamtown in historic Scranton just next to the Steamtown National Historic Site, or visit one of the many other historic areas in the region, and their museums, galleries, buildings and landmarks. Shopping enthusiasts will also love the shops and restaurants in Dickson City and the village of Hawley, which is brimming with antiques stores and specialty shops.

Nighttime in the warmer months brings classic fun for all ages at the Circle Drive-In, where movie-goers can pack a cooler and watch feature movies. There’s plenty to do in the winter time, too, like skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing at SNO Mountain or Ski Big Bear. Exciting community activities are hosted year round, like the Fall Classic Car Show, Hawley Harvest Hoedown, Winter Wines by the Lake, Hawley Winterfest, Ice Tee Golf Tournament, Chili Wing Cook off, Fourth of July fireworks displays on the lake, arts and crafts fairs, concerts in Bingham Park and much, much more.
