Originally from the east coast, I moved to the Midwest over 20 years ago. I had gone to a B&B as newly wedded bride and fell in love with an old inn that was for sale. 27 years later, my dream has come true!
Melanie Johnson- Silver Heart Inn B&B purchased this cottage in 2012
27 year life long dream to own and run a B&B. What I love about this property is the location in a historic area, the guest cottage, and the main house built in 1856. The outdoor areas are very enjoyable and lend charm to the overall property.
I adore how the house and cottage are nestled into this wooded area even though it is on a main street with access to everything. The picket fenced yard is so delightful as it surrounds the back of the property making it feel like a 'secret garden'. My favorite area is the bricked courtyard with the bubbling fountain. The sound is so happy and draws birds and other wildlife for our guests to enjoy.
My husband and I are from California but my husband is a die hard Kansas City Cheifs fan. So for Christmas this year I surprised him with tickets to fly out to Kansas City to watch them play their rivals the Oakland Raiders. I tried to find a place close enough for us to get to the stadium that wasn't in the middle of the city and I tell you what, this little gem was absolutely perfect! Not only was this place just adorable, it had everything we needed and then some. The owners are also some of the most friendly people we have ever had the pleasure of renting from and went over and above what we asked for. There was a little snack basket waiting for us in the cottage and they also had the option for us to eat at their bed and breakfast which was just delightful! And because they knew our flights were leaving early Monday morning, they also made us homemade scones and gave them to us the night before so that we would have something to eat on our way out. Everything about this experience was perfect. If you are looking for a quiet little place close enough to the city for football or shopping or just for a romantic weekend away you have found your place! When we come back to Kansas City we will absolutely be staying here again!
Nice little cottage in the city. Right at the edge of everything, so it's easy access to the interstate, shopping, downtown, you name it. And out hostess, Melanie, is as nice and sweet as a person can get. We loved the breakfast and the wonderful tour of your bed and breakfast!
This cottage is adorable, very clean and comfortable home away from home. The owners are very kind and knowledgable about the area. The breakfasts were wonderful. The bed is so comfortable! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would do so again! A true treasure in the midst of Independence!
What do you like to do? Independence and Kansas City have endless options! Museums, Art galleries, Civil War Sites, Presidential Library, Sporting events, Symphony, Theater, Sprint Center, Concerts, Historic tours, Plaza, Shopping, Waterparks. I have been to all of these! There are so many things to do that you can't fit it all in on just one visit. We would be glad to help you plan and direct you where you need to go.
