Overview

Dryden Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

4 BR, 2 BA, Sleeps 7, waterfront, historic, NO addtl fees for taxes or cleaning

Comfortably furnished, sun-filled 4 bedroom house (sleeps 7 on 2 queen beds & 1 twin upstairs; queen sofa bed on main floor) with two bathrooms, fully-equipped remodeled kitchen with brand new appliances, formal dining room seating 8, wood stove in huge living room, wrap around porch and two enclosed porches, with the sights and sounds of Fall Creek from most rooms and all three porches.

The house is a former creamery - a picture hangs in the dining room of a horse-drawn milk wagon parked in front, circa 1900.

House is located on 8 acres along Fall Creek.... Lots of woodlands to explore.

Approx 3 miles from Sapsucker Woods (Cornell Lab of Ornithology) and Ithaca Airport.

Window air conditioners in three rooms in summer, and wood stove & hot-water heating during the winter months.

We are really serious about the fact that house sleeps 7 max.

Large screen TV/DVD player with DirecTV.

Wireless network available.

Sheets, towels and basic supplies provided.

Professionally cleaned and maintained.

On the bus line to Cornell and Downtown Ithaca.

The creamery sits in the front of 8 acres on both sides of Fall Creek where it makes a 90 degree turn in the little hamlet of Etna. Five miles downstream Fall Creek passes through Forest Home and Cornell University and becomes Ithaca Falls.

There is a house right across the street and a house next door - the creek and protected Finger Lakes Land Trust are your neighbors on the other two sides. The partially enclosed wrap around porch with views of the creek and back yard is a favorite year-round spot for us and our guests.

The Etna post office is a couple of hundred yards up the road - a great walk with your dog, who will be treated with a biscuit upon entrance.

The road is very lightly traveled by cars, but bike and foot travel is frequent.

You can put your kayak or fishing rod in the water from the property. Water levels fluctuate during the year, but there is always moving water and wildlife to be enjoyed.

Sapsucker Woods, the Ithaca airport, Cornell University, a brewery, restaurants and shopping are all within a 10 mile radius, yet you really feel like you are out in the country when you are at the creamery.

There is off-road parking for 4 cars right next to the house and the TCAT bus to Cornell and downtown Ithaca goes right by the house. Rental cars are available at the airport which is less than 5 miles away.

About Michael Hall

My wife and I live in Baltimore and plan on retiring to the creamery in around 10 years. We had no connection to the Finger Lakes until we traveled through on our way to Canada and we both fell in love with the area. We call it 'Drinking the Kool Aid' and countless others have suffered the same fate as we did. Two years later we bought the house and have spent the last eight years furnishing it and spending vacations there and enjoying all there is to do in the area

Michael Hall purchased this farmhouse in 2008

Why Michael Hall chose New York

Beautiful views, easy access to the water, birds and wildlife abound, house and property full of history, close to Ithaca but still 'away from it all'

What makes this farmhouse unique

You will immediately feel 'at home'.

Everyone raves about the wrap around porch surrounded by a huge old maple tree with views of the creek.

A picture hangs in the dining room of the house when it served as a creamery with a horse-drawn wagon carrying milk cans pulled up in front of the house CA 1900.

Charming home!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our third stay at The Creamery. As always, it was meticulously clean and well maintained. I hesitate to write because I don't want the word to get out, about what a treasure this place is....and then it might become unavailable! So you didn't read this....... :) !!!! Highly recommend!

Wish we had more time there!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Creamery! We used it as 'home base' for our daughters wedding in Ithaca. There was plenty of space for our family plus. I loved the porches, although I really didn't have much time to sit on them. The history and character of the house just added to it's charm. The house was very clean, loved that all the towels and linens were provided so I didn't have to drag that stuff along, our dogs were welcome although we did use a pet sitter in the area which worked out great, and Pat was a pleasure to deal with! I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quiet get away!

Great place to stay when in Ithaca/Fingers Lake region. Very private....but close to many activities

  • 5 of 5

The Creamery is a great place to get away... also close enough to take part in other activities and get to shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend staying there when going to Ithaca and surrounding areas.

Be careful...

  • 2 of 5

This is definately a house for pets, so if you don't want to share your vacation with other peole's dog hair on rugs, pillows and sofa's, find someplace else. The three bedroom window air conditioners are on their last legs, slept with the noise of an F-16 taking off over and over. Finally was able to adjust my brain to the noise for sleep...too hot not to run the units. Even though the last week in July, many windows still had storms on them or didn't open, making cross ventilation impossible.

The house needs some loving care...numerous little thngs that remind me of my dear old aunt's neglected farmhouse. Is it normal policy to leave foodstuff in refrigerator and freezer? I'm accustomed to these spaces being available totally to the renter. The dryer, dishwasher and sideboard were full of cleaned dishes, pots and pans and unidentifiable clothing- first thing we did was put away someone else's vacation.

The back porch is the best place to relax, but must move furniture in and out. The front entry porch, unforunately, is reserved for three large smelly trashcans, and we avoided that entry as much as possible.

Recommend this house if you're not picky and want to bring dogs with you. But bring your own bed pillows...

The property was clean and well maintained

The service was good.

I would recommend it to others.

I think there should be a grab bar placed in the downstairs shower.

Wonderful vacation home and location

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the Creamery was wonderful, the house is beautiful and well furnished. The location cannot be beat. Our four year old twins are asking when we are going back to the yellow house. We spent most of our time on the wrap around porch. The only issue was the paint chipping on the porch; which led to paint chips everywhere. other than that everything was great. Thank You.

Etna is a small town approximately 6 miles east of Ithaca NY. House sits thirty feet from Fall Creek which becomes Ithaca Falls around 6 miles downstream . There are dozens of waterfalls in the immediate area and hiking (easy to expert) and nature opportunities abound. We use our house as a base to visit many of the Finger Lakes wineries (there are Breweries and Distilleries too), and to visit the world-famous Ithaca Farmers Market. Ithaca is the home of both Cornell University and Ithaca College and boasts a thriving arts community.

Other Activities: Biking, kayaking, swimming, birdwatching, fishing, antiquing, and agri-tourism. Kids activities include the Museum of the Earth and the Science Center.

Notes:
There are three steps up to first floor. Stairway to 2nd floor has approx 10 steps, a landing then 4 more steps. There are a washer / dryer in basement. Basement is not full height and not suitable for children to play in. A single dog will be considered. Security deposit and/or fee may be required. Dogs are not allowed on any furniture and must be on leash at all times outside and picked up after. We do have wireless internet service. The house does NOT have a 'land line' phone. The area gets good cell phone connections, and this has been adequate for the owners (we use AT&T).
