About David & Monique Samson
Greetings from Diever! We are David and Monique Samson. In 2004 we decided to relocate our family to peaceful rural Drenthe, one of the most beautiful parts of the Netherlands. David has thirty years experience in tourism, having worked for several major airlines, tour operators and business travel agencies. We have advertised our holiday farmhouse rental property with VRBO/Homeaway since 2010. Secure credit card payments accepted via the Homeaway/VRBO online payment system.

Why David & Monique Samson chose Diever
In 2004, here in the small Drenthe village of Diever, we found the perfect location for a holiday farmhouse. The property was originally the site of a very popular B&B, which operated from 1972 until 2004 (at which point the previous owners decided that it was time to retire!) We have discovered the most idyllic spot in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Being situated between two National Parks (including the largest area of moorland in Europe at 'Dwingelderveld'), this allows for many recreational activities. Yet, the close proximity to the motorway network makes for easy day trips to other parts of the Netherlands and the German border, which is less than an hour away. If we can provide you with any local knowledge to make sure that you have the perfect holiday then please contact us.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Centrally located in Diever village. Within walking distance of a good-sized supermarket, an award-winning bakery, ice-cream parlor, 6 restaurants, chemist, newsagents, many souvenir shops, a bike rental shop and an archaeological museum. We are just a short walk/bike ride away from the nearby 'Drents-Friese' forest. The farmhouse, situated adjacent to fields and a bicycle path running alongside, can comfortably accommodate up to 10 adults. Smaller groups are most welcome (see our discounts of up to 20%). You will be amazed by the many attractions in the area. The outstanding natural beauty of Drenthe is here for all to enjoy - not forgetting the forests, lakes, dunes, hiking & riding trails, parks for the kids, the many museums & places of historic interest, as well as the ease of reaching the surrounding towns.

Perfect Family House!
The accommodations at Under the oaks were perfect for our family of 5. (though the house can fit a much larger group) David was most helpful in every way, from helping us with the bicycle rentals (he made sure we reserved them way in advance) to taking us on a small tour of the village and suggesting interesting places to visit in the area. David and his family live in half the house and the other half is the rental. We had a separate entrance, so it felt completely private. The village of Diever is great; the grocery store was a 45 second walk from the house, and lots of little stores and small restaurants within a 5 minute walk. We rented bicycles, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip! There are endless bicycle routes throughout the countryside, most of them are not next to the road like we are used to, but far away from the roads, cutting through the landscape of farmland. So very serene! Everywhere flat as a pancake, super easy bicycling. Diever is very close to several national parks and there are beautiful places all around. Do not hesitate renting from David and spending your vacation in Diever!
Great host, house, and location
We were two families (with 5 kids under 8) staying together and there was plenty of space. This home is conveniently located a few doors down from the grocery store and just a short one to two block walk to an ice cream shop, bakery and bike rentals. Just past the ice cream shop is the entrance to the beautiful park. We rented bikes and David assisted us with this to ensure we were able to get the right bikes and without having to pay the cash deposit. Overall, we had a great stay and are so pleased we chose to stay here - we would stay again.
You are very welcome and it was a pleasure to meet you all. We do hope to see you all again at some time in the future!
Charming house in tranquil village
A lovely traditional home with lots of room for family groups. Set in a charming village with restaurants and bars within walking distance. Surounded by pleasent countryside walks and forrest cycle ways. Attentive and helpful owner on site to help make the most of your stay.
Thanks very much and glad to hear that you had a great holiday here!
Another great stay in Diever
We also stayed in 2013, IIRC. The Sampsons are friendly and gracious hosts. The town is adorable, with a grocery 3 doors down and plenty of restaurants in walking distance and of course everything you could want in biking distance.
The beds are comfortable, toys for the kids and David makes sure you are set up with bikes if you want that, and there's food in the fridge when you arrive. Always a pleasure to stay here!
Thank you again for choosing 'Under the Oaks' - it was good to see you all again! We hope to be able to welcome you back when you are next in the NL!
A home away from home.
Traveling from the U.S., our stay at "Under the Oaks" was a refreshing change of pace for a 3 day portion of our trip. The small town had everything we needed for a nice time away. We enjoyed the village shops and restaurants and just walking around. There was so much more to do in the area than we had time for. We used this convenient location as home base to travel around the area and north. Amsterdam was a reasonable distance and good roads. We were very pleased with the hospitality and kindness shown to us--from a personal tour of the house and village to a wonderful and generous welcome gift. Plenty of space and well maintained. Thank you very much!
Alles da was man braucht.
