About the property

Rustic 3+ Bedroom, 1.5 Bath, pets considered, sleeps 8

Tucked in among the large boulders and mature trees, this secluded property is only a 5 minute walk to its deeded access on West Caroga Lake with dock and designated boat slip (up to 21') and abuts over 60,000 undeveloped acres of state land known as the Ferris Lake Wild Forest Preserve. The preserve offers endless miles of trails that wind through some of the most beautiful terrain imaginable.

Completed in early 2013, StoneHaven was custom designed and built by it's owners to incorporate the luxury of modern and efficient technology into a rustic package. This concept allows visitors to experience the more premium comforts of a home while the décor and setting provide a true Adirondack “camp” experience.

An open floor plan allows an opportunity to engage in conversation, entertain and keep an eye on children all from any vantage point on the first floor. Complement your meals in the dining area with a gaze out the large picture window which affords an uninterrupted view of nature at its finest. Be sure to appreciate the old world craftsmanship of the custom made kitchen cabinetry built in primitive design and utilizing traditional construction methods. Also take note that the walls and ceiling on the first floor as well as most of the trim throughout the house are comprised of knotty pine that was reclaimed and milled locally from the trees that were harvested from the property prior to construction.

Don’t be too surprised to find your morning coffee or evening drink interrupted by a visit from one or more members of our local wildlife community which may include: fox, deer, turkey, chipmunk, possum, rabbit, fisher, mink, raccoon, black bear, bobcat, and many others.

From our family to yours...We sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit here at StoneHaven! Please- relax, unwind and be happy!

About Trent Atkinson

Trent and Patty Atkinson purchased a vacation home in Caroga Lake in the summer of 2007 which would come to be lovingly referred to as 'CrookedWood'. In 2010, they received confirmation that Patty was pregnant with their first child. Although they simply adored their little slice of Adirondack heaven, Trent had determined that the costs associated with renovating CrookedWood to make it 'kid compliant' were not feasible. Coincidentally, at that exact same time their neighbor had made an offer to sell a portion of his property located directly adjacent to them. And thus the idea of 'StoneHaven' was born. CrookedWood was subsequently sold to family friends and Trent began the design and construction of a new slightly larger, more kid friendly, and much more energy-efficient home. Every aspect of the home was carefully planned out in order to maximize use while minimizing size. Also, consideration of environmental impact, both short-term and long-term, had a major influence on every detail of the design. On January 1 of 2013 they officially proclaimed 'construction complete'. StoneHaven is now the second home of the Atkinson Family...Trent, Patty, Harper, Hudson and their yellow labrador Murphy.

Beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at StoneHaven Cottage. The house is beautiful, cozy and provides you with everything you need for a comfortable trip! We had gorgeous fall weather for our weekend stay and had a great (albeit exhausting) time hiking Kane Mountain and taking in the fall foliage from the top of the fire tower. We enjoyed campfires in the evenings and took nightly walks around Caroga Lake as the sun set. Trent and Patty were fantastic ever step of the way, and we are so grateful they let us stay in their wonderful cottage!

Outstanding property!

  • 5 of 5

We rented Stonehaven Cottage in July 2017 for a family reunion. We were a family of 5 adults and 2 children, ages 3 and 5. The house is fairly new construction, is very clean and well kept. As we were pulling into the driveway all I could think was, "Wow! This is really nice!" The property is private with a nice size covered porch, comfortable outdoor furniture, a fire pit, grill, and of course, a couple of Adirondack chairs. The pictures of the interior do not do justice. It is a beautiful, cozy, cottage accented with lots of wood and thoughtfulness. It is rustic, but not old, and contemporary without being modern. There are two big comfy sofas to relax on, and a very unique dining set with lots of room for eating, drinking, playing games, and enjoying conversation. The kitchen is well equipped with appliances, pots, pans, dishes, flatware, and lots of glasses and coffee mugs. We cooked meals for a week and never found the kitchen lacking regardless of what we were preparing. There are lots of big windows to let in the light and connect you to nature. We were a little worried about only having one full bath, but it was never a problem, and the half bath on the first floor was perfect when upstairs was occupied, or we didn't feel like climbing the stairs. Both bathrooms were very clean and the tub/shower was great. The three bedrooms on the second floor were all generously sized, and the beds were comfy, with more than enough pillows and blankets. Stonehaven is very child friendly. The kids were busy all week playing with the toys in the trunk, and playing dress up with the assortment of princess wear - which perfectly fit both our grandchildren. Thank you to the Atkinson's for your attention to the smallest details that make a family vacation perfect! When we were leaving I looked at my husband and said, "I could live here. This is a great house in a beautiful location and it feels like home". It was sad to leave, BUT we will be returning in December with friends to celebrate a special occasion, and we have something very special to look forward to!

Unique Pet Friendly Camp Everyone Loves

  • 5 of 5

My wife, myself, daughter and 2 labradors stayed at Stonehaven for 3 nights and wish it was for 3 months. The place is beautiful...set in a quiet and peaceful location. Originally from the Mohawk Valley I am very familiar with the area having spent many summers at both East and West Caroga. We were back in the area for a wedding at Pine Lake Park. I didn't think it was going to be possible to find a camp to rent that would be pet friendly. I was extremely surprised to find a place for one, then to find such a well kept place that excepts pets was amazing. Patty and Trent have done a wonderful job with decorating the camp with a cabin motif.

I am already looking forward for another visit and DREAMING of having a place like this of my own in the future.

We were able to utilize the just about everything (netflix, woodstove, side porch, grill, fire pit, etc).

You will not go wrong with renting this place!!!

Beautiful cottage in the woods.

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a quiet vacation in the Adirondacks and this was the perfect place. The house was clean, comfortable and well-equipped with whatever we needed. There were three bedrooms and we comfortably fit five adults. We enjoyed renting kayaks and a pontoon boat at the Marina on Caroga Lake, and hiking nearby. The general store is delightful, but there is not much else close by. So if you are looking for a quiet spot for outdoor activity, this is it.
