About the property

Charming 1 BR Apt in Clintonville

Fantastic 1BR apartment located in the South Clintonville/North University District area, minutes from OSU or downtown. It is on the ground floor of a lovely 1926 4-unit brick building. It's beautifully furnished and is ideal for a single or couple who are visiting or relocating to Columbus.

The apartment has hardwood floors, wood panel doors, double-hung windows with storm windows and screens, and it has the original 1926 bath and kitchen fixtures. The kitchen has a full-sized gas stove, a small built-in microwave, a dark wood countertop, a hidden drop-down breakfast table, and a hidden drop-down ironing board. It is equipped with everything you need (toaster, coffee maker, plates, glasses, cups, pots, pans, silverware, and an assortment of utensils) to cook any sort of meal. The adjoining hall space functions as a continuation of the kitchen and contains a full-sized refrigerator, a narrow hutch, and a utility/pantry closet. Linens are provided for the bedroom, the bath, and the kitchen, with extras stored inside the utility closet.

The bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and the bathroom has single-handle shower and lavatory faucets. The living room has a decorative fireplace and a 40' Smart TV. There is an elegant formal dining room with a small antique desk and wireless internet service for your laptop.

The apartment temperature is always comfortable thanks to the presence of a thermostat in the Dining Room that allows you to control the heat and AC settings, and thanks to the ceiling fans in both the Living Room and the Bedroom.

Guests will have one designated parking space at the back of the apartment in a carport/garage structure. This structure is somewhat small and will accommodate most cars as long as you pull in straight and not at an angle. If your car is particularly large, there is alternate parking available on Indianola Avenue about 1/4 lock north of the apartment. There is a private entry to the apartment from the back.. A washer and dryer are available in the basement of the building.

I live about a block from this apartment and am available to solve any problems pretty quickly. I have recently retired from my job at OSU.

This is a wonderful vibrant neighborhood with a mix of rental units and private residences. There is a ravine park within easy walking distance and an assortment of shops and restaurants on Indianola. It's a quick drive to High Street and its many shops (including a Giant Eagle supermarket and a CVS Pharmacy), and access to either the I-71 or the 315 freeway is quite close.

A city bus line runs in front of the apartment. It travels primarily south and north and will easily get you to downtown or to Worthington, with transfers available to other directions. An OSU bus line runs just south of the apartment with a stop 3 blocks away at Clinton and Indianola.

Minimum rental period is three nights at $90/night. Maximum occupancy is two persons. Under special circumstances, it can accommodate a 3rd person for an extra $20/night fee. Longer rentals of 3 months or more welcome at reduced rate. This is a non-smoking apartment, and no pets are allowed. It is not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Many rules and too much food left from other guests

  • 3 of 5

Many rules about sleeping on couch to toilet paper useage. Bar soap left in shower gave perception of not being cleaned . I believe the apt was clean. Food items left in refrigerator from other guests, including butter on a butter dish was not helpful to us. Apt. was well located, easy to find and nice.

Owner's Response: It is true that there are a certain number of ‘food’ items left in the refrigerator, but for the most part these are “staples”, such as mayo, mustard, ketchup, soy sauce, jelly, and butter. Some of these items are left by former guests, but most are put there by me. Usually new guests are happy to find that these items are “available”. The kitchen cabinets also contain a number of common food items (sugar, coffee, tea, soup, rice, etc.) that are there to be used or not used by new guests. In addition to the staples, I sometimes leave milk or eggs in the refrigerator, but as part of the cleaning process, I always remove any personal food items that have been left by earlier guests. I am rather surprised that this particular guest was bothered by some bars of used soap left in the bathroom after cleaning. I provide liquid body soap in the shower and liquid hand soap at the sink for those guests who might feel that “used” soap bars are unhygienic. I’m also surprised that he felt that a note asking people not to use the couch as a bed, and another note asking people to refrain from putting items other than small sections of toilet paper in the toilet seemed like “too many rules”. I truly do my best to provide a clean, comfortable, well-equipped apartment for the people who stay with me.

Cute and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for four nights during a convention and loved it. The apartment was a comfortable place to return to after a long day of walking around. I love the neighborhood and it's right on a major bus route. The host was very friendly. I was unable to meet the host due to my weird arrival time, but her communication via the homeaway portal was excellent! Next time I'm in Columbus, I will be staying here.

Tranquil proximity

  • 5 of 5

Close to everything (Polaris, Ohio State, Downtown, Mapfre stadium), with a gracious and kind hostess. Ohio truly is the heart of it all, and this apartment and it's owner prove that. Perfect place to unwind and relax after a long day out and about. I hope to return again soon!

Best VRBO in Columbus

  • 5 of 5

Possibly the best rental experience we have ever had through VRBO. Nothing else I can add except that we travel frequently to Columbus and this will be our first pick!
