In the Winter, bundled up and sit around the fire pit as the North winds chill the air, Spring brings out the fragrant blossoms of the jasmine vines that cluster along the back of the house and in the trees. The summer months get hot as the afternoon storms roll in but its perfect for heading to the springs to take cool dips in the crystal waters. As fall transitions begin, the shrimp start running in the river so bring your net and cast for supper, Night falls quickly as time changes in October and the holidays approach. A perfect place for have that nostalgic Thanksgiving or Christmas. By the New Year, you'll be unplugged and unwound from the hectic schedules from metropolis. In the woods, by the water, and the comfort of home; truly "Old Florida Living" will replenish your soul.
NOT EASY TO GET TO...BUT EASY TO SEE...WHY ITS HARD TO LEAVE!
The home of a writer and his wife, a sculptor, the indigo inn is a world apart from the noise and hustle of city life. We wanted to turn down the volume of our lives; cut the speed; release the pressure; breathe the fresh air that blows across the miles of water in lake George, and recharge our personal batteries. We loved the horses, dogs, cats and bird who shared the generous space with us. We enjoy the oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and pecans on the property. The indigo inn is an ideal retreat for meditation, recreation and creativity.
Thank you, thank you , thank you for opening you home for others to experience. We really needed a place to get away from the stress of work and the commerical distractions and this is it. Watching the afternoon storms roll in from the lake, the frogs chirping in the night, the deer grazing in the early morning hours, the library of books etc., really made us stop and appreciate the simple things in life. Your guidence and hospitality in the ways of island life was wonderful. Can't wait to come back in March when the weather is cooler and sitting by the fire pit will be spectacular!
Our entire extended family enjoyed our stay at The Indigo Inn. We chose to rent a pontoon boat, but there is a ferry available. Even without a car, we had a great time. From the time we stepped off the boat, a large wagon beside the swing at the end of the dock to pull our stuff to the house, we felt like we had gone back in time. Judith York, the property manager, had a radio playing softly both in the house and the barn, set to old time music...There was a fire going, water bowls for the dogs, wood chopped and ready for our nightly smores, and everything we needed other than our food and water. The AC and heat worked great, with Florida weather, we used both. The beds were comfy with fresh bedding, plenty of bedrooms for all of us, charming footed tub baths on one side and new, modern baths on the other, plenty of fresh towels. The library was amazing, and there were games and a game room. If you have a large family, everyone will be comfortable and have their space. We loved the 'Barn' area and enjoyed an outside meal in the cooler temperatures, there is a nice grill, also. Our dogs had fun exploring the pasture and the orchard. We loved hiking up the path and never saw a single soul! Bring your bocce ball, kickball, football, volleyball because the grounds are perfect for games. Judith made sure we had everything we needed, and was totally accessable right from booking time. With the pontoon boat, we were able to explore around the lake, and went to Salt Springs, a half hour boat ride, which was gorgeous. We are looking forward to coming back again. If you want a cozy, rustic, old fashioned experience, this is the place for you. *the water is sulphur, it didn't bother us, but bring your own drinking water.
The property manager Judith was very accommodating and helpful. The house is immense and served well as a place for a small family party where we had a surprise birthday event. Its really like two houses next to each other connected by a breezeway. One is a really old house and one is new. The air conditioning works well which was important in August! My favorite was spending time on the dock swing seat where we enjoyed the breeze and the beautiful views. The water at the dock was pretty shallow and could have allowed a canoe or kayak to dock but not most other boats. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean but the kitchen could have been cleaner. I did have to wash many of the dishes I took out of the cupboards. There were a couple of other maintenance issues I let the property manager know about so they can be fixed.
We were very excited about this location, fishing in the lake and springs are right around the corner. It sounded very cool to be on the isolated island. We did not expect the 5stars hotel and we used to staying in older not so nice houses but this house is in need of major cleaning. We stepped into the house full of dead roaches, so the first thing we did is vacuumed (not what you want to do on the vacation). Showers, the floors and screen porch were all extremely dirty. All it needed is deep cleaning and some pressure washing, but I do not think anything has been done to the house in decades. There were spider webs in every corner of the house. We were told the house had the grill, it was so rusted I would never cook anything on it. The pictures you see on this listing are very old, nothing looks like it anymore. We tried to make the best of it, boys loved fishing off the dock. This house does not worth the rent and we would never recommend this to anyone. The owner was nice and told us several interesting facts about the area which was cool to know.
we are no strangers to the island and have stayed at indigo inn a few times, most recently this early spring for a friends (numbering 14) weekend gathering.
the house was spotless and welcoming and all that we hoped for. our stay was extremely restful, made especially so with a well-appointed book collection and a number of cozy nooks in which to enjoy it.
we especially enjoyed walking the length of the island and taking (literally) hundreds of photos of the local flora and fauna.
judith goes out of her way to make herself available both before and during one's stay and to prepare folks for the rustic charm of the place.
i cannot recommend this rental experience highly enough!
we can't wait to visit again!
We spent the 4th of July weekend at the Indigo Inn - Judith the property manager was extremely accommodating and made our stay super easy. The keys were in the door when we arrived and the house was clean and ready for our stay. We are from the area so we knew to bring the essentials like bugspray, extra ice, drinking water and what not. The only issue we had was with the neighbor who refused to let us try to get to the dock from in front of his house (the sand bar was very shallow). However, the neighbor on the other side was very helpful and allowed us to use their entrance over the sandbar to get to our dock. The Inn is extremely private and we felt as though we had the whole island to ourselves. Overall it was an amazing trip and we all enjoyed our stay very much! Thanks again Judith and thank you Indigo Inn!
I can't say enough good things about the great experience we had staying at the Indigo Inn on Drayton Island. Judith the property manager was extremely helpful with every aspect of our stay, she really went above and beyond to make sure we were properly prepared for our vacation. I will advise a couple things if you stay here. First, don't plan for cell phone reception. Second, make sure your guests have a boat or catch the ferry. Acting as the taxi will take away from your enjoyment. Overall i cant recommended this place enough.

Truly a throw back to old florida living. Mother nature can be humbling and also provide you with some speclacural surprises. Watch a storm rolling in from Lake George, deer grazing in the pasture or strolling up to the grove and house.
