La Charité-sur-Loire Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

The studio apartment (50 square metre/500 sq feet) is comprised of recently remodeled suite of rooms, with a private outdoor patio, in a 15th century of medieval building. The studio suite is located within the remnants of the ancient walls of the medieval town centre.

We have made every effort to maintain the antiquity of this charming studio during renovation. In the same complex we also have a one bedroom apartment for rent up one flight of stairs, please ask us for further information about our other three two bedrooms apartments. Modern bathroom, kitchen and living room make the unit an ideal place to relax while exploring the region. The apartment is rented on either a weekly basis or a two night minimum stay.

While staying with us you will be a short walk to several bakeries, butcher shops, bars, restaurants and other amenities all within the medieval town centre. In addition to wine tasting and sightseeing you can spend your days walking or cycling the many trails in the area the best of which run along the Canal Lateral à La Loire. There is also the opportunity to travel down the Loire by kayak or canoe.

La Charité-sur-Loire is an hour and 45 minutes south of Paris. The owners live a two minute walk from the unit and are always on hand to answer any of your questions or if you need help with your French. Please see our website for more information of activities in the area.

About Byron and Kelly Harker

Hello, we are Byron and Kelly Harker from Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada. We have had the opportunity to travel widely over the years, and have always enjoyed returning to France. In 2003 we decided to sell our home in Vancouver and move to France. We discovered the delightful town of La Charité-sur-Loire in Burgundy and immediately fell in love with the town and the area. In 2004 we opened the first of our vacation rentals and currently have five such rentals in the centre of this medieval town. We enjoy the many festivals in town and the area throughout the year. We are close enough to Paris to 'pop up' for the day. We enjoy sharing our love of the area with our guests from all over the world.

Byron and Kelly Harker purchased this apartment in 2003

What makes this apartment unique

La Charité-sur-Loire is south of the rain and north of the heat and as a result has very enjoyable weather. Our vacation rentals are in the centre of town and you are able to walk out your front door and enjoy the many bakeries, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. The Loire River is two blocks away and it has lovely beaches and walking paths along the riverbank. There is canoeing and kayaking on the river. We are close the wine areas of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire where you can meet the wine makers and enjoy tasting their wonderful wines. The castles of the Loire Valley are a two hour drive from us and make an enjoyable day trip. La Charité-sur-Loire is becoming an art, book and music cultural centre and as such there are many festivals throughout the year.

A medeival experience

  • 5 of 5

This medeival town was the perfect place to explore the area. La Charite sur Loire itself was a delight to walk through....lots of history! (LOL!) Byron and Kelly are wonderful hosts.

Shops and restaurants are just a short walk away.

The studio is large and the kitchen and bath are very modern....wonderful shower! The window over the kitchen sink is at street level making the apartment more of an"English Basement".

There is a complete and separate kitchen which is very nice and totally unexpected for a "studio".

It's amazing what Byron and Kelly have been able to do with these ancient buildings. A very enjoyable stay.

PS...definitely take Byron's invitation for a tour.... his enthusiasm for La Charite is contagious!

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks in Bardin Suite. This is a beautiful area and good for a truly "French" experience. Byron and Kelly provided the information we needed to see the best of the attractions in the time we had there. They were always available to help us enjoy our time in La Charite.

Everything you need - shops, restaurants etc is within easy walking distance but you can also rent a car from nearby Nevers if you want to explore the French countryside.

Bardin suite is nicely furnished and we enjoyed our private patio immensely.

Very nice well located apartment, with good services and kitchen. The hosts we very good and helpful. We had a problem with the TV and they came around straight away and fixed the set up.

An interesting small town on the Loire, and as we were traveling by bike it was a welcome stop for three nights to recharge and do the washing.

We visited Pouilly-sur-Loire and had a good lunch and visit to a cave.

What a wonderful, relaxing place to stay. Everything was so comfortable. The owners were most helpful and had thought of everything. A delightful little town to rest in, and served as a great base to explore much of the nearby region. We would definitely recommend this place.

What a treat!

  • 5 of 5

We had been meandering in France for a month, moving on every night or two, when we noticed the listing for Kelly & Byron's gites, and decided to settle down for a week in La-Charite-sur-Loire in a part of Burgundy we had not been before. Bardin suite was just our size, and probably the most comfortable place we have stayed of our many European vacation rentals through the years, and maybe the only one that was exactly as represented.

They've thought of everything. The comfortable bed, the nice towels and linens, the easy chairs, the well furnished kitchen, the rain shower bath, and even more importantly to us, the good reading lights -- combined with Kelly's graciousness to make us grateful that we had found such a warn, pleasant place.

The Harkers are such nice people, and we really enjoyed their hospitality. Byron's enthusiasm for his very interesting adopted town is infectious, and his local anecdotes and tidbits bring its history to life. Parking is right in front, and there is much to see and do within an hour or two. We liked it so much that we wanted to stay longer, so we did!

Superb Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience booking with vrbo. and a very positive one. Communication was prompt and exact. When we arrived in La Charite the weather was cool and wet and Kelly was extremely welcoming and escorted us to our suite in no time. Kelly went to great measures to ensure we were warm and very comfortable, heater was on in the living area and already set as was the heated towel rails. The suite, was much larger than I imagined from the website and has been exceptionally restored and decorated. Both Byron and Kelly go to great lengths in imparting their knowledge of the town and area, of which they quite obviously love and are very proud. We especially enjoyed Byron's afternoon walk and his enthusiastic talk on the history of some of the very old buildings. The use of the bikes is also a very positive extra with the apartment. We were able to experience the Loire countryside along the velos and canals. One can easily cycle along designated velos north and south of the bridge for as far as you wish. There is an amazing amount to do and see around La Charite. Thank you Byron and Kelly for a memorable week in your Bardin Suite. We will be definitely recommending your apartments to any friends and relatives visiting France.
