About Roger Vivas

I am a Venezuelan adopted by Columbus, which I proudly call my second hometown.

I have traveled the world extensively and my best experiences always came from small places owned and managed by people who really cared; not only about their business and their guests but also their community. With Vivas Guesthouse, I have the opportunity to make a difference to those who visit this great city and to the German Village neighborhood.

I am apart of this community; an ambassador who is eager to share my knowledge with others so they can understand why Columbus is so great! I can suggest what to see, where to eat or even cook for you myself. I am here to ensure your stay is wonderful.

I have dedicated my career to hospitality; worked for years in hotels and restaurants and wanted to get away from the cookie cutter. A destination like Vivas Guesthouse will save you from having to feel like a stranger occupying one of the hundreds of identical rooms. Vivas Guesthouse is a boutique destination that feels like home. You can use one of the many bikes to explore the neighborhood, stay in the master suite that I built with my own hands, and even cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Or even better, have me cook that meal for you. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Warmest Regards,

Roger Vivas

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the Vivas Guesthouse was excellent. The property is conveniently located in a beautiful neighborhood just steps away from Schiller Park and several other German Village gems. The property is beautiful decorated. We were well equipped for cooking and more. We'd definitely stay again.

Lovely and convenient

This house is very well thought out; with a beautiful decoration and offering everything we needed. Free wifi, cable, outdoor space. Not to mention the location; we LOVED German Village.

This place is a MUST and with an amazing host!

Great location but could use some improvement.

  • 3 of 5

The location was fantastic! A beautiful, quiet, trendy neighborhood in the middle of the city close to everything you'd need. Comfortable furnishings and the beds were amazing, and my family is picky about beds. The problem was with the details and safety. A dark kitchen due to burnt-out light fixtures and a tub that didn't work. I contacted the owner regarding both issues and was told they would be taken care of, then never heard from the owner again. We had to prepare dinner using the flashlights from our cell phones, this is really unacceptable considering what we paid to stay there and how easy a fix it should have been. The front door was very concerning to us, providing no sense of security, visiting friends commented on it as well. We would have left just seeing the door if we could have. Overall, a nice stay, but we won't be staying here again or recommending it to others.

German Village Boutique

  • 5 of 5

We went to Columbus, Ohio for my nephew's graduation from The Ohio State University Law School and wanted to stay close to the college. We couldn't have picked a better location! The home was very quaint and the location was excellent! We loved German Village and hope to go back real soon. I would totally recommend this home if you are looking for a nice, safe and covenient location. It's in walking distance to the shopping and restaurants in the area. This home was a true gem! Linda

Very comfortable stay. Nice neighborhood.

The house is cute, comfortable and clean. The steps to the upstairs bedrooms is steep, so if you have young children be careful. The owner is pleasant, helpful and generous!

Overall "OK" but pricey

  • 3 of 5

The decor is spartan, mostly stuff from flea markets supposedly. Could use a 'woman's touch' in that area. Very clean inside, though this is an old townhouse. The heat is inconsistent, sweltering in the back of the house and frigid in the front. Nicely attired kitchen with utensils and cookware. Nothing fancy. Steps to second floor are straight up dangerous and need at least a hand rail. Because it was Thanksgiving, we shelled out the $513 for two nights, but any other time probably not worth it. Beds were comfortable, floors were creaky, shower was awkward to use, wifi was slow and spotty, plenty of towels, safe neighborhood. We would not stay here again, but some folk would be OK with it.

This inviting and relaxing home is located in historic german village, steps away from gorgeous schiller park; a quiet, friendly neighborhood that is listed on the national register of historic places and was recognized as a preserve america community. Located just south of downtown, you will enjoy strolling through the brick streets looking at the beautiful homes and gardens throughout the neighborhood. Walk to popular fine dining at g. Michaels or barcelona or stroll down third street and visit the original max and erma's! Get a taste of germany at juergan's bavarian bakery or schmidt's sausage haus, and don't forget the cream puff! There are many other great restaurants in the area to sample, too many to mention! Set time aside to wander through the 32 rooms at the bookloft then head to schiller park for shakespeare summer theater. If you leave german village during your stay you will want to check out the brewery district, the arena district and the short north.

We are approximately 1 mile to both children’s hospital and grant hospital, 1 and 1/2 miles from the theater district and the state house, 3 miles to capital university, 5 miles to the ohio state university, and walking distance to schiller park and countless restaurants and attractions!

Less then 10 minutes from popular destinations to include nationwide arena, the columbus clippers stadium, the crew stadium, the convention center, the expo center, the state fairgrounds, the ohio state university, capital university and berliner park. Approximately 20 minutes from the columbus zoo and aquarium, ohio dominican university, rickenbacker air national guard base, hiking, golfing, dining and much more!

If interested in adventure sports, i can arrange mountain biking tours, hang gliding flights and hikes to hocking hills.
