About Robert and Heidrun I am a teacher and I have a BA degree in Icelandic literature. My husband Robert works as a Pilot in Europe and has a BS degree in business administration. We have three Amazing boys This house is what we have been searching for the purpose of total relaxation and the house has everything a home needs. Now it is our summerhouse and we love staying there, both in the summer and winter time. We offer others to stay in our house and enjoy all it has to offer.
Heidrun purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Heidrun chose Western
We wanted to build a nice holiday home where we could relax and recharge the batteries and we think that´s precisely what we succeeded. Also the short distance to the town Borgarnes, where you can find all necessities, and to the Capital Reykjavík, is a very big advantage for us.
What makes this Cottage unique
Peacefulness - You can sit outside or walk around the house on the large patio and enjoy the nature and the amazing mountain view in the peaceful surroundings. High Standard and modern – All the equipment in the house is high standard and you should find everything you need and more. The open space and the large windows give you the feeling that you are out in the nature even when you are inside. Location - The location of the house is ideal for exploring the west side of Iceland. There are short driving distances to many beautiful places in the nature such as waterfalls and craters. Museums and historical places are also nearby. There is only a 15 minutes drive to the nearest town, Borgarnes, where you can find for example a swimming pool, golf course, shops, bakery, restaurants, library and health care.

Heidrun was a perfect place to stay for my trip to Iceland. I stayed their with my Mother who turned 70 and best friend. The house was so cozy and each of us has a bedroom of our own. All the amenities anyone would need. The hottub was perfect after a full day of hiking. Since we were on the westend, there was a lot of driving. We did the Golden Circle which did take up the entire day and into the night so had dinner at The Settlement in Borgarnes. Delicious! That was our only time we ate out, otherwise cooked everday. Explored Grabrok crater, Hruanfrossar, Barnafoss, Ullarselio Wool Center, ect. Lots to see and all so beautiful. A great trip. Don't need much cash, get wine at the airport, need a credit card pin number to get gas, and watch the cost of certain foods. Loved.
Beautiful, Peaceful Retreat
Pulling up to this beautiful home after the drive from KEF, we felt a wave of relief and relaxation wash over. The home exudes peace and calm - which was much needed! It exceeded expectations in beauty and style, accommodations, amenities and overall experience.
The house was warm and comfortable, and we had a wonderful time on our three-generation family vacation. We really enjoyed the modern appliances and the hot tub. This was an excellent location for exploring West Iceland. Can't wait to come back to Iceland for another visit!
Quaint setting beautiful house. Very comfortable. Very convient to many sites
Would definitely come back. Loved our stay
My sister-in-law's and our family, total of 4 adults and 4 teens (aged 11-17) truly enjoyed our stay at Heidrun and Rob's vacation home. The home has everything we need, and is very clean and quiet!
Wonderful home in Borgarnes area
Fantastic place for a family to stay! Everything is super clean. The coffee machine is amazing! Would 100% recommend Heidi and Rob’s wonderful home near Borgarnes! Heidi is extremely organized and responsive. We truly hated to leave.
The house is located along the spectacular Salmon River, Langá, one of the greatest salmon rivers in Europe. There are walking paths from the house, where you can enjoy the peaceful nature and walk by the river. If you are staying in the late summer or autumn you will find blueberries growing near the river. You are welcome to pluck them, it´s delicious.
The house is a about a one hour drive north from the Reykjavík Capital and about 10 minutes from Borgarnes. In Borgarnes you can enjoy one of the nicest swimming pools in Iceland, play golf at Hamarsvöllur, visit the great Settlement center where you can learn about the Icelandic culture and saga and shop at the Bonus grocery store. In Borgarnes you will find the interesting Farmers market, Ljómalind, which sells food and products made in the area.
In the north direction, about one hour driving, you will find the old fishermen´s town Stykkishólmur, where you can go sailing, Whale Watching and enjoy Bird Watching paradise. In Stykkishólmur you can visit interesting museums like the Water museum and the Volcano museum. On the way to Stykkishólmur you will find the crater Eldborg which is an interesting natural phenomenon with lava all around.
Close to Stykkishòlmur, you'll find the great Snæfellsnes National Park. It was voted one of **Iceland Top Five** to visit. There you can enjoy Snæfellsjökull, and its magical and remarkable nature. On the way from Stykkishólmur to the National Park you will drive through a small town called Grundarfjörður. There is one of the most beautiful mountains in Iceland, called Kirkjufell. Drive on and you will find plenty of interesting places worth visiting, like Djúpalónssandur a beautiful pebbled beach, Vatnshellir Cave and the popular hiking trail by the cliff beach between Hellnar and Arnarstapi.
The beautiful Borgarfjörður area is close by Helluskógur. In Borgarfjörður you can find many interesting places to visit. The largest thermal spring in Iceland, Deildartunguhver, is located near a small town called Kleppjárnsreykir and is about 40 minutes drive from Borgarnes. Close by Deildartunguhver is the historical place Reykholt. There you can find Snorrastofa which we recommend visiting if you are interesting in Icelandic Saga. If you drive on from Reykholt towards Húsafell you will see the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, which are absolutely worth a visit. From Húsafell you can go on a tour into the glacier Langjökull, one of Europe’s largest glacier. Amazing!
You can say about the location of the house that it is midway between the two great National Parks, Snæfellsnes and Þingvellir. Þingvellir is located on the Golden Circle and is a popular tourist destination. Þingvellir is a place of historical, cultural, and geological importance. It is the site of a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It is also home to Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. On the Golden Circle you can also visit the great waterfall Gullfoss and the hot spring Geysir.
