About Sissel Thorsen
We are a Norwegian family that moved to Texas in 2001. We love the beach and St George allows us to have some fun family time together. We hope you enjoy our house as much as we do and come back in the future.
Sissel Thorsen purchased this House in 2011
Why Sissel Thorsen chose East End
You will enjoy a one-acre property with a private walkway to the beach. We really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the ease of walking back and forth to the beach. We always leave a base camp on the beach during the day.
What makes this House unique
Waking up to the beautiful sounds on St George and drinking a hot cup of Java while watching the dolphin swim by gives us a joy we can't find many places. Come to St George to enjoy the Florida island life..... dolphins, turtles, eagles, fishing, seafood, relaxing and great hospitality! The way Florida used to be!

Another year of Thanksgiving at Pelican !
Amazing! Everything you need! Fires for the night-beautiful view for the day meals! Resort Property is outstanding at handling any maintenance needed immediately! Perfect home for multi groups of your family or friends! Love it!
Thank you so much for the stay and good reviews Pat. We are working through the situation now but lucky to be one of the only beaches in Florida that is private and can still be legally accessed. If you know of anyone looking for a place, please give them our house. We have done a few upgrades this year including painting the bunkrooms, changing carpets, building a stone firepit, painting all the white trip, and a few other fixes. Hope to see you at Pelican Watch this year too! All the best, Sissel & Paal
Great place to enjoy a large family vacation. Beautiful property and beach with great privacy. Had a light switch issue after 6pm which resulted in no kitchen lights. Called the managing company and they sent someone in less than an hour and fixed it very quickly and efficiently. Highly recommend this beach home.
Thank you for the review Neal! We are working through the Covid situation now but the East End is lucky to be one of the only beaches in Florida that is private and can still be legally accessed. The houses are so few and far between there is no issue with crowded beaches. If you know of anyone looking for a place, please give them our house. We have done a few upgrades this year including painting the bunkrooms, changing carpets, building a stone firepit, painting all the white trim, and a few other fixes. Hope to see you back at Pelican Watch, Best Regards, Sissel & Paal
Wonderful Beach Retreat
This beach house is fantastic! Even though the master and kitchen are way up at the top floor, the elevator worked great to haul coolers and suitcases etc up.
Master is on 3rd floor. The other two main bedrooms are on the second floor and each have a bunk room adjacent that can allow two separate families to make their own little suites.
Thank you so much for you review! I am so glad you had a great stay :)
Overall ok but several issues with maintenance
When checking in I should have been informed that the cable was out and had been since the Thursday before our Sunday check in. The maintenance man came to repair the elevator and the broken drawers in the fridge. He informed me the cable should be repaired by noon on Monday and if not I should contact the rental management company. I called Monday and was told it was a cable company issue and they would keep me updated. Tuesday still no cable, Wednesday again no cable (it rained all day Wednesday) Thursday I finally got ugly and received help from a property liaison who made the proper calls and the cable was fixed within hours. This should have been done Monday!! Yes, I was here for the beach but my husband doesn’t care for it and is a huge College World Series Fan. He planned to enjoy his vacation watching baseball and he was unable to do so. This issue should have and COULD have been resolved Monday if the rental company had taken the proper steps. No one offered us anything except an I’m sorry and a “yes, we should have done better”.
The house is a “dog friendly” house so I expected there to be a stray hair or two but I literally swept up a small dog out of the master bath and the trash can drawer in the kitchen needs some attention. The view is nice, patio is great and beds slept well but it housekeeping and customer service need to do better.
Thank you for your feedback! We are sorry the cable was out and it took so long to fix. Not acceptable and we have talked to our management company about this and your other concerns. The Mangement company usually does a great job. Not sure what happened this time.
Room enough to enjoy the whole family
We had thirteen people for a weeklong stay and there was room for everyone!!
We loved the area, the view, the kayak and the fire pit.
We are happy you had a good time there! We love the house and all the toys! We try to upgrade the and replace the house toys on a regular basis!
Pelican Watch is a first tier home with a private walkway to the beach. You can roll your kayak, cooler, or beach caddy all the way to the beach.
Just enjoy the beach scene or you can jet ski, paddle board, kite surf, swim, fish, kayak, and sail. Several rental spots on the island for a variety of water sports, the house comes with a tandem sit on top kayak. And when you head back we have and outdoor shower, sink and a great grill area to grill the catch of the day!.
A short 5 minute drive to boat launch or fishing pier in the Apalachicola Bay for bay fishing, shelling or boating.
The whole area is like a nature park, dolphins are spotted on a regular basis swimming by, turtles lay eggs on the beach and Bald Eagles nest in the area.
The area is famous for its oysters but plenty of others fresh seafood coming right out of the gulf and on to your plate! For the best food, I recommend Harry A's, and Up the Creek in Apalachicola they make some fantastic dishes. For a sunset drink, hit the Blue Parrot on the beach and enjoy live music. If you want to get out of the sun and enjoy a great atmosphere also with live music or watch live sports, go to Paddy's!
If you like to play Golf there is an excellent Golf Course about about 20 minutes drive away.
There is a private landing strip on the island which is open to the public but no refueling available. Apalachicola municipal airport is about a 10 minutes drive and refueling and rental car is offered there .
