Retired professor. We travel internationally & have two Bichon's. Love to walk on the waterfront and eat the best fresh fish at Mitch's Seafood which is located at the Sport fishing landing. Balboa Park & the Zoo are favorites; Park has the Prado Restaurant which has great happy hour drinks & food; Zoo has Albert's Tree Restaurant which many do not know about; it is breezy & has an African motif.
Ron & Susan Oleson purchased this apartment in 1990
We have a vacation home rental & realized our geographic apartment location would be great for its accessibility to all that San Diego offers. We have a century home in front of the apartments & really enjoy San Diego's great sites like our Ball Park, just 3 minutes away & the Gaslamp.
Accessibility is key and the airport is so convenient due to our travels that we know those coming to San Diego can benefit from this travel ease.
Great little apartment in the perfect location! About 10 minutes by car to everything, Balboa park, the Zoo, Downtown and North Park. We spent 5 days here, and it was the perfect amount of space for two people and a dog. The kitchen is a good size and we were able to cook, which was a great way to save some money. As other reviews have stated the garage is small, however we were able to fit my Nissan Rogue without too much trouble. You will need to have everyone on the passenger side exit, before pulling in. Though, having a garage is a huge perk, we loved not having to worry about parking. It was raining during our visit, and our one critique is that the stairs are a bit steep and very slippery when wet. Overall, a cute & quiet apartment in a great location. We would definitely stay here again!
Great apartment in a good central location to visit the city. About 10 minutes by car to all venues. Good internet. Very nice space for two people. I read the reviews that the garage is small so I got a smaller car and it was fine. Very nice to have secure parking. The stairs are a little steep, but not a real issue. Very good value for Money.
Our overall experience was excellent. We planned a trip to San Diego before school started and the house was able to accommodate two adults and 3 kids. It is literally located on downtown San Diego 5-10 min away from the zoo and balboa park. Everything you need is withing walking distance (restaurants, store). The kids loves the experience and it was definitely better than a hotel. The only thing that I would have to complain about is the size of the garage but we have a Chevy traverse and made it fit but it was tough.. other than that the experience was amazing.
We have stayed at this property 4 times now, and will keep coming back. The apartments are spotlessly clean, beautifully outfitted with most everything you might need, and so convenient to all the places you want to see in San Diego. There are many great places to eat within walking distance- don't miss Pizzeria Luigi's, Panchita's Bakery and Humberto's! The units are quiet and peaceful because they are set back from the street, surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden of towering palms and trees. There are three grill/patio areas and other areas to just sit outside and relax in, which we did often. The property owner, Terry Portwood, is on the premises, and his daughter Susan manages the units very well. We feel like we're welcomed back as old friends when we come! Love this place!

My husband, dog, and I stayed here for a long weekend in San Diego. The location and price (no dog fee or deposit!) is fantastic! Close to major attractions, restaurants, a grocery store, and downtown (short uber ride away). However, the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Also, I thought a 4pm check in was a little late.
Other than those two negatives, we enjoyed our stay. I would stay here again, and I will be recommending this rental to others. Thank you again for the hospitality! :)
This apartment is small for 4 people but if you don't plan on being in it much like us it works just fine.
Only 2 complaints. The walkway from the front sidewalk and gate to the stairway was pitch black. A little creepy.
San Diego was cold the 4 days we were there. At night it was in the 40's. The apartment has plug in heating and cooling units. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. They were not sufficient to warm up anything but a space of a couple of feet around it leaving the bathroom so cold and only the person closest to the heaters a little warm. The noise of them is quite loud as well.
That being said the price was right and the location was superb.
The neighborhood has a market and many places to eat. Do yourself a favor and go to the eateries within walking distance. Pancheta's bakery has a selection that will astound you. The prices are so low you will think it is a mistake.
Humberto's Mexican eatery is cheap with huge tasty portions. Lines out the door at many times of the day.
Anakins right next door to Humberto's has great fresh juices and smoothies.
Pizzeria Luigi has the best pizza we have ever had.
We felt safe walking at night and the people were always friendly.
We drove all around the city and the apartment was close enough to everything. We had a garage but parking near would not have been a problem either.
There is one coin operated washer and dryer on the premises but it can be a pain to wait for others to use it. There is a laundromat though really close as well.
Except for the cold room at night we enjoyed our stay.
The property is located in the heart of Golden Hill, a neighborhood of the original San Diego and has the charm of a historic and old neighborhood. There are several local eateries that you can walk to including a cook your own steaks (Turf Club), Luigi's pizza, stone wood fired pizza, Humbertos, legendary Mexican Food, a couple coffee/sandwhich smoothie shops, Counter Point Wine Bar to name a few. Golden Hill park is down the street with trails that lead to the trails of Balboa Park, which is 4 minutes away as well as the zoo. Golden Hill is about 1 mile up the hill from downtown and makes for a great walk. If you are too tired to walk back, the bus come within a couple blocks of the unit and goes straight there from downtown, the bay and gaslamp. Access to all major San Diego freeways are just a few blocks away.
