About Mary Lavezza
Hilton Head Island has always been a special place for my family. For over 30 years it has served as a winter getaway, dating back to the 1970’s when my late parents from Detroit, Michigan owned and enjoyed their own HHI property in Shipyard Plantation. The island provided years of wonderful memories with my children when we would go visit Grandma and Grandpa. Days were filled with playing on the beach collecting shells and sand dollars, feeding turtles, spotting alligators and shopping at charming Coligny Plaza. After many years and additions, my family returned to Hilton Head in May of 2013 and fell in love with the island all over again. The younger generation relived old memories and rode bikes on the beach while others fished and hit the links on one of the many championship golf courses. When we came upon the amazing opportunity to bring 96 Mooring Buoy into our family, we saw a chance to share our love of the island with others. My family and I are committed to helping you create the generations of Hilton Head memories like the ones we cherish so much.
Mary Lavezza purchased this House in 2013
Why Mary Lavezza chose Shelter Cove
Our beach retreat offers the perfect balance between a secluded, relaxing vacation getaway and an exciting, activity filled beach excursion. This property is nestled in the heart of the most self-sustained and well equipped plantation in Hilton Head. Enjoy a round of golf in the morning, spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or on the beach and take an evening walk (or bike ride!) down the beach to The Dunes House for a drink and some food.
What makes this House unique
The perfect location to the beach, charming interior, secluded pool and covered front porch with rockers are just a few things that we love about our home. Children never have to cross a street as they walk down the beach path and with a new ramp taking bikes on the beach is a breeze. The many amenities offered by the Palmetto Dunes Resort make it hard to leave! Sitting in the spacious living room and enjoying family movie night or taking an evening drink outside onto the screened-in porch, the property immediately feels like home and is the perfect place for families to reunite. Life slows down in Palmetto Dunes, and the simple pleasures of a traditional lowcountry home make the little things that much sweeter!

Nice area, house needs work
Overall the house was okay for our needs. The pictures were misleading as to the age an condition of the house. I am allergic to mold and after sleeping in the house the first night, I started sneezing and coughing. You can tell that the fresh paint was done to cover up the mold. Overall the house was nice, yard was maintained and the pool was great.
We understand that our home may not be for everyone but we take mold very seriously. We inspect our home several times throughout the year while making improvements and take loving care of our property. Our family’s and guest’s safety is always paramount to us and we work hard to keep our home in the best possible condition. We have never and would never paint over any signs of mold. Springtime on the Island brings a heavy amount of tree pollen and should be taken into consideration as to what may have caused an allergic reaction. This is our first negative review in 5 years of ownership and while we are disappointed our guests did not find their stay to be satisfactory, we appreciate the feedback.
Nice relaxing time in a very quiet neighborhood
This house is located in one of the more upscale areas of Hilton Head. Even though it is the third house from the beach, you can walk right out of the back yard onto a public beach access path and be at the beach in a minute. This is a big plus, since even though the beaches are public, the land right next to the beach is lined with private homes. All beach access is through a limited number of public paths. The farther you get from one of these paths, the longer your walk to the beach.
Beach cruiser bike rentals were also a big plus. These bikes are built to be ridden on the beach, which we did every day. Also the many wide bike paths around town allowed us to ride to stores and restaurants which we also did frequently.
The house itself is very comfortable with many places to sit and hang out including lounge chairs by the pool, seating in a screened in porch, rocking chairs on a front porch, and a large family room.
I would definitely recommend a stay at this very nice home.
Private and relaxing place to stay
Our family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable and private, providing the perfect getaway from our busy life. The pool was warm when heated and large enough for our 3 boys to enjoy. We would definitely return again to this home!
We were in town for a tennis tournament. We were nine ladies and we had the a great time. The home was perfect. The location was great, the setting was beautiful. The home was comfortable and well furnished. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed. Mary, the owner, was gracious and easy to work with. You will be happy staying here.
Great house at a great location
Best private pool. Nice rooms. Love the privacy and closeness to the beach.
This property location was amazing in Paletto Dunes and just a 2 minute walk down the cement/boardwalk path to the beach. Having your own pool is also a great feature!! There were a couple minor issues when we arrived but they were addessed immediately. The owner is extremely nice and very helpful!!
Located in the heart of Palmetto Dunes Resort and surrounded by countless amenities all within driving, bike riding and even walking distance. Gated plantation that offers various restaurants, three award winning golf courses and wonderful outdoor activities. Rent a kayak or paddle board and explore the 11 miles of lagoons. Charter a fishing trip for an exciting day filled with redfish and tarpon in the plantation lagoons or a trip for deep sea fishing leaving from the island. Even more convenient, walk the semi private path to the beach for surf casting. Go for a quiet bike ride around the plantation and on the beach. There is a charming general store just a short bike ride away for homemade breakfast sandwiches, ice cream, a candy bar, basic groceries, sunscreen, souvenirs and bait. Palmetto Dunes is also just minutes from the shopping at Shelter Cove Towne Centre, Coligny Plaza, Harbour Town and the Tanger Outlets. The island also offer mini golf and other family friendly activities. Grocery stores are also close by as are many wonderful restaurants for either cooking at home or dining out. There is so much to do in Palmetto Dunes you can't help but fall in love!
