About Debra Weiss
I'm a web designer/developer and own my firm, drw Design. The Recycled House started out as a small idea and then took on a life of its own. I've lived in Charlottesville since 1995 and love showing off this town! It's really hard to have a bad meal here. And it's really historic and pretty. There's always something interesting going on!
Why Debra Weiss chose North Downtown
It took over 6 years to collect materials from a TON of places to use in/on the house. It's been really satisfying to save amazing materials from the landfill, dumpster, etc. and use them in a thoughtful and creative way. I'll give you the tour when you come show you where everything came from. Most folks get a real kick out of it. The Recycled House is quite special and if you want to be downtown, the location is fantastic.
What makes this House unique
The Recycled House was designed from the beginning as a guest house. It's very welcoming. People tell me it's really romantic. I have hosted a lot of families, girlfriend getaways, bridal parties, folks coming for reunions and sporting events at UVA and all the festivals that go on here in Charlottesville. Just about everyone says the photos don't do justice to the place. You just have to come and stay and see it for yourself!

The house is very cozy. We were there in January and made use of the wood stove. It slept the 4 of us (me, my wife, my daughter and her roommate from college) very comfortably.
The location is great being within walking distance of the downtown mall and also a short drive to Monticello.
Debra was great. She met us at the house and showed us around. The house is very imaginative and quite interesting.
I have family in Charlottesville and hope to be able to rent the Recycled house again on future visits.
Beautiful place! So 'homey' and warm. Definitely want to come back in spring or fall!
Great location, beautiful home
We loved staying at this home. Debra was very welcoming, and even had fresh cookies waiting for us. Wood stove was so cozy, kitchen very well -appointed, beds very comfortable. Loved all the little seating areas and natural light.
Birthday Girls' Trip
Lovely home-cozy but roomy. Wonderful host/owner who made sure we had everything we needed and was very responsive to questions. Fabulous location-short walk to Charlottesville's pedestrian mall with all of its shops and restaurants. I noticed in the great book that this property is consistently in demand and it's for good reason. All of my family members who stayed with me loved it and definitely would like to come back!
The Perfect Home Away From Home!
We stayed at the Recycled House while visiting our daughter during Family Weekend at UVA. We wanted a “home away from home” so she could come stay with us and we could really enjoy being together as a family. The Recycled House was absolutely perfect! Debra greeted us when we arrived and gave us a lovely tour of the home. It is absolutely breathtaking and every little design detail adds so much charm and character to the place. The house has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing and enjoyable visit. The beds were comfortable and the linens super soft. The kitchen is well equipped and Debra had fresh ground coffee and homemade cookies waiting for when we got there. The location is convenient to everything and we wished we had more time to take it all in. We couldn’t be happier with our stay at the Recycled House and we will definitely be back!!
