Nice home close to Waiʻanapanapa State Park

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice and the yard was very big with all kinds of fruit trees. We stayed for two nights, but wished we booked for 3. The Waiʻanapanapa State Park is very close and great to explore. There is no A/C, but we didn't need it in April. Not sure how it would be in July. There was an occasional sewage smell outside. it may have been from the neighbors pigs, not sure. Never noticed the smell inside the house.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes, there are a couple of pigs just behind the banana patch in our neighbors yard. We were thinking they were going to be Kailua pig and cooked up soon. They are actually quite tame and love bananas tossed in their pen.

Tranquil and fruitful!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property with high ceilings and very comfortable furnishings. We most enjoyed exploring the fruit trees on the property and the super easy access to the state park down the street.

Beautiful property!

  • 4 of 5

The house and property are beautiful! The house has everything you need, was clean and comfortable. Location is great! The house did get very warm and didn't cool down at night as much as I was hoping. I can't imagine it in the summer (I was there in April). Doesn't seem like anybody uses air conditioning in Hana but that is my only complaint about the property itself. My only other concern is that the neighbor has many dogs, locked in runs outside (we didn't go snooping, you can see it from the road). They bark A LOT because they are bored and locked in runs 24/7. It was distressing because I felt bad for the dogs (being a veterinarian on vacation the last thing I wanted was to be stressed about dogs and wonder if they were being taken care of at all) and also annoying because they barked (although I only heard them bark at night once). Overall we really enjoyed our time here. Thank you for opening up your home!

Owner's Response: I am so sorry about the heat! There was a drought after the wettest winter in history in Hana! It is rare that it is that warm in April! Unfortunately the weather everywhere is getting extreme one way or another. I have a notebook in the house for guests with a lot of information. I have written how I keep it cooler during warmer days. I make sure the solar shades are down in the back bedroom, with the awning windows shut and the slider open for air. Then I shut that bedroom door during the day. It is the afternoon sun that gets very warm during hot dry days. There is not many places with air conditioning in Hana as it does not usually get the heat that the west side experiences. As for the dogs, it breaks my heart to see them kenneled all day as well. I have dogs and they are considered part of the family. I have to respect the Hawaiian people though, and their culture. They have to be resourceful to provide food for their families. These dogs are exclusively for pig hunting and are kenneled unless they are hunting in the mountains. They are considered a tool, and not pets. They usually don't bark much unless it is feeding time. They are quite a distance from my yard but the noise travels when it is quiet. Thank you for exploring Hana. Aloha, Jody

A lovely home in a peaceful setting. We wished we could stay longer than our two short nights. A great place to stay if you want to explore the area. I hope to visit again.
