Beaches and Hiking:
Take a 5 minute walk to Waianapanapa State Park to watch the sun rise. There are fruit stands to gather your breakfast along the way. Wiggle your toes in the black sand beach. Take a cool dip in the fresh water pools or hike along the 'Kings Trail' and take in the beauty of the black arches, blow holes, sea turtles and whales (when in season) along the coastal path.Snorkel in the calm waters of Hana Bay or take the short hike to Red Sands. Just 2 miles from Hana town is Koki and Hamoa beach. A great place to watch the surfers or boogie board yourself.
Just 10 miles from Hana is Ohe'o Gulch where you can take a dip in the 7 Sacred Pools before you hike through the bamboo forest to Waimoku falls. Keep going and visit Palapala Ho'omau Church, and the grave of Charles Lindbergh.
Hana is like stepping back in time to what Hawaii was like 30 years ago before high rise condos and shopping centers. You can find all the gifts you would need such as Aloha shirts, homemade jellies and jewelry at the local stands or quaint shops. The beauty of the area and the genuine Aloha spirit of the people make this a truly special place

My husband purchased this property in 1982. I am a part time resident of Maui and could not think of a more wonderful place to call home!
Jody Ellis-Smith Tax ID #03450934-01 purchased this cottage in 1982
The Hana area is a truly unique and wonderful place where you can get away from a hectic pace and recharge!
Fresh fish, fresh fruit and great hiking and beaches along with the welcoming atmosphere, make Hana the perfect get away!
Thank you for the AMAZING time in Hana! We enjoyed our stay at your house. We found everything to be comfortable and very convenient to do all the sight seeing.....
Combine the setting and charm of Hana with a home that is a pleasure to hang out at, and the result is a great vacation. My wife and I were pleased with the beautiful flowers and tasty fruit that was provided when we arrived. Everything was as described and the stay was what we'd hoped for.
The owners have the Aloha spirit. Always very pleasant. The communication was always there to make sure we were good with everything. From the moment of arrival we felt at home with a vase of gorgeous freshly cut exotic flowers and several fruits from the garden. Everything was clean. The house is located perfectly to explore the Hana Hwy. both ways, grab a meal nearby, and go to the beach. After sightseeing all day, it was nice to go to the beach at the Waianapanapa St. Park, Near the house or to stroll along the yard, which is full of fruit trees and beautiful flowers. We enjoyed many fruits during our week there. The house itself has all the comforts such as a well equipped kitchen, comfortable queen bed, two large screen TVs, Internet, and a cell phone booster. The latter is quite a treat since cell connection is not available through many sections in Hana.
The house has no air conditioning and if you are there in the afternoon it does get a bit hot but as soon as the sun goes down, the house cools down and actually get very cool at night. The porch always stays breezy and cool. It's a wonderful place to just enjoy the beautiful garden and watch the birds. In case of rain, there's a carport that connects with the porch to load and unload the car.
There are many details about the house, which made it a very comfortable stay. I would definitely stay here again.
The property is beautiful. Lots of fruit trees, birds, and flowers. The house itself was nice and had almost everything we needed. I wish there would have been a few more fans and an extension cord because it was hot hot hot when we were there. We arrived in time to meet the caretakers and found them to be friendly and helpful in directing us to sites to visit and how to get there. I will preface my next comment by saying I am a bit of a neat freak, that being said, the house could use a very thorough cleaning. I appreciated the scent free laundry detergent. The couch was so comfortable I wish I could teleport it to my house! It is evident that the owners have used it themselves in that it very much felt like a home with all the amenities of a home. My security deposit was refunded days after we left. The quickest refund I've ever experienced using VRBO. I would recommend this property.
Great Location - made it so easy to get up in the am and beat all the crowds to the amazing destinations. The yard was so beautiful and spacious with all the flowers and fruit trees - which we loved. The porch was wonderful to sit on and relax in the morning and evening. Was very convenient to everything and all the suggestions you left for places to go were great! Wish we could have stayed longer and hope to come back again and stay at your place.
Awesome property on the edge of Hana. Love the location on the north side of town. The house has a great layout and most of it looks to have been recently upgraded. Love the patio looking out over the spacious yard. Spent time on the patio watching the stars and tropical rain showers all on the same evening. If you plan on going to Hana I suggest getting a place like this for a couple nights so you can be behind the traffic on the scenic stops to Hana and so you can be first to the Hana activities in the morning. This was a great place for our family.
My family and I spent four nights at Jody's Hana home. It has a lot of space both inside and out. The living room and small bedroom are pretty dark. The large bedroom has been renovated and is much lighter. The kitchen is well equipped and we made good use of the barbecue. Some lovely flowers and fresh fruit were waiting for us when we arrived. On our drive to Hana, we found the road closed halfway in due to a landslide. Jody and her property manager were very helpful and we figured out that the best solution was to drive around and get to Hana using the back road. (Check road conditions before starting your journey to Hana.) The home is well located for visiting Hana's many sites. The black sand beach that is near to Jody's is wonderful, but we decided it was better to drive. The road is narrow and muddy and not easy to walk when cars are about. Most of the traffic is from 11 am to 4 pm. There are only a couple restaurants in town, but the food trucks are great. I recommend eating dinner in and lunch out. The Hana Ranch Food Truck out by Hamoa Beach is outstanding. (This truck is not related to the restaurant in the middle of town.) We loved staying in Hana and Jody's home suited our needs very well.
