About Tom & Pat Johnson

Owners Tom & Pat Johnson reside in Lansing, MI. Great vacationers in northern MI for many years before buying. Frequent recreational boaters on many inland lakes including Lake MI. Love being by water and the great northern MI surroundings.

Tom & Pat Johnson purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Tom & Pat Johnson chose Michigan

Purchased the duplex unit in late 1998. We had been looking for a place to hang our hats on for about 5 years or so. Previous years of boating on various lakes, Pat's past history of family vacations to lakes, familiararity with the waters and sights above the 45th parralel & renting places in summer, about steered us to look at Burt, Higgins, Mullet, & Crooked Lakes. Tom became an avid boater & would travel by water learning all the in and outs of recreational boating. Lots of time was spent on our boat for recreation, travel and enjoyment. People we knew, places we'd been to, the aura of water, overall atmosphere and activities drove us to want to be in northern MI.

What makes this cottage unique

Our location allows easy access to many neighboring great towns and cities that offer entertainment, shopping, restaurants & sports. Direct views of Crooked Lake from upstairs bedroom and the front porch. Situated at the beginning of the Inland Waterway which travels out to Lake Huron.

Unit was very clean and nice size for a family of 4. Came in for the weekend to ski and within 5-10min of Nub's Nob, so worked out perfect. Owner was very accommodating.

Beautiful Property!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful home, the view is gorgeous - watching the lake change from whitecaps to snow covered in a matter of days was incredible, good location - access to area ski resorts as well as minutes from Petoskey. The road is busy and mostly noticable at night when all else is quiet. Note - if you are staying in the winter that you may need to shovel the path to the driveway and porch; they have a plow person for the driveway but that is all that he does (only a caution if you are not in a physical condition where you can shovel the snow). I would definatly rent again! Enjoyed our one week getaway between Christmas and through New Years! Thank you for sharing your home.

Johnson's Roadhouse on Crooked Lake

  • 5 of 5

Johnson's Roadhouse VRBO was very accurately described. We could easily communicate with owners and found out we could trailer our boat to the cottage. Our favorite activity was boating across Crooked Lake to the beginning of the Michigan Inland Waterway. A beautiful days trip through rivers and lakes. We stopped at a restaurant on Indian River for lunch.

We highly recommend this vacation cottage and the whole area.

Perfect example of "Pure Michigan"!

The cabin was neat, clean and close to downtown!

This cabin was fabulous! The girls and I wanted a calm, peaceful weekend and we got just that. I would recommend this vacation spot/home to everyone I know!

Thanks again,

Has Everything You Need!

  • 4 of 5

The property was very clean and well-maintained. The owners thought of everything in terms of what one might need--just like at home! Having the Little Traverse Wheelway just out back was a huge draw for us.I can't say enough about beautiful Crooked Lake! We enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding on its clear calm waters. Our kids had a blast catch and release fishing right from the dock! We could literally watch the fish take the bait.

The only negative was the proximity to US 31. The house sits right on the highway and it got very noisy at times.
