This is a log exterior duplex unit situated across the street from the Inland Waterway on Crooked Lake. This well maintained unit has a full length front porch ideal for relaxing and lake views. Whole interior has been remodeled up & downstairs. The open kitchen area is fully furnished, hickory cabinets with a self designed island for preparing meals, eating and conversation. A cozy living area is carpeted with gas fireplace, TV. DVD player. The main floor bedroom is carpeted with queen bed, dresser, closet, cheerful and adequate natural light. Downstairs bath has matching tile floor as kitchen, tub/shower, vanity and stool. The up stairs bedroom has an open floor plan, carpeted, furnished with a queen bed, dresser,closet and a viewing area of Crooked Lake. The coordinated bathroom is complete with shower. There is an open back deck, fire-pit and direct access to the newly completed Little Traverse Wheelway. Plenty of parking area with carport.
Very close to the Crooked Lake boat launch, state parks, restaurants, entertainment, outdoor activities, shopping, airport and several major northern MI cities including Petoskey.
Owners Tom & Pat Johnson reside in Lansing, MI. Great vacationers in northern MI for many years before buying. Frequent recreational boaters on many inland lakes including Lake MI. Love being by water and the great northern MI surroundings.

Purchased the duplex unit in late 1998. We had been looking for a place to hang our hats on for about 5 years or so. Previous years of boating on various lakes, Pat's past history of family vacations to lakes, familiararity with the waters and sights above the 45th parralel & renting places in summer, about steered us to look at Burt, Higgins, Mullet, & Crooked Lakes. Tom became an avid boater & would travel by water learning all the in and outs of recreational boating. Lots of time was spent on our boat for recreation, travel and enjoyment. People we knew, places we'd been to, the aura of water, overall atmosphere and activities drove us to want to be in northern MI.
Our location allows easy access to many neighboring great towns and cities that offer entertainment, shopping, restaurants & sports. Direct views of Crooked Lake from upstairs bedroom and the front porch. Situated at the beginning of the Inland Waterway which travels out to Lake Huron.
The Johnson Roadhouse is well-maintained, modern, and clean. Mr. & Mrs. Johnson were very helpful in providing information about the Petoskey area, things to do, places to see, and restaurants.

* Great location for a home base and day trips to Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Tunnel of Trees, and Mackinac.

* A heavily traveled 2-lane hi way is very close to the front of the property. Traffic noise very noticeable in upstairs bedroom with windows opened.
We had a wonderful stay at "The Johnson Roadhouse". The cabin was in excellent condition and the owners provided almost everything you need to have an enjoyable stay. The bedrooms are spacious and the kitchen area is spacious and open. The front porch is great for your morning coffee or evening drink. There was always a nice breeze off of the lake. The back yard has a firepit and back patio where u can spend time. Also the Bike path was very nice to have right there in your back yard. Perfect for biking, running, walking etc. It's nice because it's about 50/50 shade and sun.
Proximity to Petoskey and Harbor Springs is only a couple miles so it's easy to go to both places. We also had the privledge of meeting the owners, Tom & Pat, who were very nice and accommodating and also very prompt with communications and security deposit refund. This is a perfect place for families with small children as the property has lots of room to play, has a large driveway for biking etc. We did use the little beach across the street in addition to PSP. Surprisingly, the beach across the street was pretty nice. Lake was warm and free of rocks. weeds etc. in the swimming area. Great option if you are looking for a quick swim and don't want to go all the way to PSP.
I only have two small critiques of this wonderful cabin. One, which is visible in pictures and on maps, was the road in front of the cabin. I was completely aware of the road before booking this stay. However, the road was extremely busy, especially for up North. At times it's so busy you cannot even cross the road if you wanted to go over to the dock or nearby beach. It has constant traffic all day long. Sat and Sun mornings from 7-9am it was quiet but that was it. But don't misinterpret my comments here. It's definitely not a strong enough reason to pass on this rental. It is a wonderful place to stay and the road is only a minor issue.
Last one, and it's more of a suggestion for the owners, is that the listing stated that it has cable/satellite TV. The house was wired for cable, but it was not activated so there was only basic TV (like 5-6 channels). I would suggest updating the listing. Another option if cable will not be added in the future would be to provide a DVD collection of movies for the guests to watch in the evenings when there is not much to watch on the basic channels.

We planned a last minute vacation with our 21 and 14 year old and were blessed enough to have found this property gem. The cottage was
all it was described to be and more. We enjoyed the front porch at sunset and sunrise. The highway was a little noisy but the area makes up
for that small issue. My husband and I took a long walk on the trail behind the cabin. It was beautiful and we met some of the locals who gave
us some very solid advice on the sites to see. We were close to so many attractions but yet far enough away to feel like we were away from the hassle
of the busy city. We will stay here again!!!
We had a great stay! During the day it gets a little hot downstairs but the ceiling fans and other fan helps (the AC window unit is upstairs)! Nice to not worry about cups,plates,utensils and spices since this place has them all. We made our breakfast at "home" daily. There's a grill to cook if you desire. Very close to the lake and beach access. The deck out back is nice to sit at night and the front porch is awesome for the mornings. We enjoyed our stay!
We stayed at Johnson Roadhouse for the 4th of July week and it was comfortable, clean and convenient for our trip. Easy to get to the Boyne Mtn area, Mackinaw or the upper peninsula. We made a 90 minute trip to the Soo Lock Tour and went "locking" for the day. Many other places are also convenient to get to including golf courses that don't charge you an arm and leg. Roadhouse was well equipped for eating in. improvements could be made in internet accessibility and "above basic TV." Don't forget to try the Pie Shop!!
We would rent again should we chose to stay on this lake again!!
The location of the place is close to Petoskey where Bay View, downtown shopping, Little Traverse Bay & waterfront park, numerous restaurants and seasonal events can be experienced. Around the bay on US 119 the town of Harbor Springs lies. There are events, sailing, large yachts, shopping, restaurants like, New York & Staffords The Pier. Burt Lake & the state park, tubing down the Sturgeon River & Indian River all lie around the town of Indian River about 10 miles from our place. The Petoskey State Park is 3 miles away where you can picnic, swim, walk and camp on Little Traverse Bay. Also worth sight seeing are Mackinaw City, Bay Harbor, Charlevoix and Boyne City. Information on most of these places are available once you arrive to start your vacation.
