I grew up on Lake Michigan and can't imagine living anywhere else! I graduated from Coloma High School and have a degree from ITT Tech.
Scott purchased this House in 2012
Why Scott chose Hagar Township
If you want a quiet get-a-way in a wooded area but very close to local public beaches, this is the perfect place for you. My property is the most economically priced property that close to Lake Michigan.

Great little place that has the amenities you need, nice and quiet, and is conveniently located close to a small, public beach. Owner very responsive.
Very nice, well kept cottage
The property is very nice and mostly updated. It has a fire pit and outdoor grill which we used both and were happy with those. There were four of us, two adults and two smaller children. The place was more than large enough for us. The kids liked the bunk beds. The location is pretty secluded, which we wanted. There is one house next to this one, but there was no one there when we stayed, so it was really quiet. It is wooded around the area and we saw a deer and a couple of turkeys, which the kids liked. We drove to the local beach in the area on the first day. The local beach was a little choppy for the kids on that day and it is starting to erode away. We went to St. Joseph the other days, which was only maybe 15 minutes away.
The only issue we had was getting into the house to start the vacation. We arrived and the door was unlocked so we could get in. There was a lock box on the door (similar to what you see on properties for sale) that contained the door key but we were initially not given the combination to open it. After sending a flurry of emails through Home Away and responding to a previous email from the owner, we got the combination and everything else went smoothly. The owner contact information (both email and phone number) through Home Away was not accurate/needs to be updated. I called the phone number for the owner through Home Away and got a stranger. The stranger said he gets calls all the time from people trying to contact the owner. After getting correct contact information, the owner was more than helpful.
Thank you for staying at my property. Since your stay my information has been updated and is in the HOSPITALITY section on my listing. The code to the lock box is there as well.
It was comfortable
The bathroom needs a lot of overhaul. Shower rusted and cannot be attached above, water yellow/brown and smelly (well-water), sink faucet sprays over the edge of sink. You turn on the shower and half of it comes out into the bath faucet.
Coffee machine useless for us as we cannot use it for our organic coffee we brought.
Otherwise it was cozy there and we enjoyed the quiet surroundings.
Great place for what we needed
We spent most of our time a few blocks away on the beach so we did not use many of the amenities. The wifi worked well and it was easy to check in. The one bad thing was the water in the kitchen sink smelled like sulfur so we just got water bottles to drink. The water in the shower smelled fine but had low pressure.
Not coming back!
The house was subpar at best. We didn't have the access code to get in. And the phone number provided was wrong. It took a couple hours to get the code from Scott. The outside was very dirty and run down. Looks nothing like the picture. The inside was musty smelling and OLD!! The tub and washing machine were rusty. The towels were old and worn. The a/c is a wall unit in the living room. We weren't able to close the bedroom doors at night because we couldn't get any air in them. No ceiling fans. The kitchen was awful. The refrigerator was not a full size refrigerator. The freezer had ice forming all over inside. No ice trays. The bedroom windows were old and in bad shape. Not sure if they even opened. I'm pretty sure the dresser was cardboard. It was like a college fraternity. We will not rent this house again
I had to call Homeaway to get a hold of you since you didn't leave a number. They called you and also sent an email 2 times. Now the house. It's been completely remodeled. Kitchen and roof were replaced by my father. I bought the house in 2013 and replaced the bathroom, siding some new windows. The one in bedroom does open. It is old and does need to be replaced. That used to be a one bedroom house before I bought it. The AC unit was put in by my father. I will look into the towels. I am going to replace the dressers for next season. I put vinyl on the outside. New plumbing and electrical. My house is one of the cheaper ones on the site. It's that way for a reason. I am newer to this and am testing the waters to see what fits and doesn't fit. I'm sorry you didn't like your stay. You can go into St Joseph and stay and also South Haven.
Privacy, near beach
Great privacy in the woods with fireplace, 5-10 minute walk to beach (lots of stairs to beach FYI). 10-20 minute drive north or south to cute downtown areas, restaurants, shops. House was clean (which isn't easy to do with all of the sand) and provided all necessary household items (linens, kitchen stuff, etc).
Hagar Beach is a public beach just .3 of a mile away. Roadside park is another public beach just 2 miles away from the cottage.
