I grew up on Lake Michigan and can't imagine living anywhere else! I graduated from Coloma High School and have a degree from ITT Tech.
Scott purchased this house in 2012
If you want a quiet get-a-way in a wooded area but very close to local public beaches, this is the perfect place for you.
We enjoyed our long weekend at Scott's place. I'd say it was a 4.5 star accommodation.
We had two minor things come up, and Scott was very responsive both times. Great customer service!
I'm the kind of person who travels with a (kitchen) knife because I'm particular about how kitchens are outfitted. That said, the kitchen here was wonderfully equipped. We also really appreciated not only having a washer and dryer available, but that detergent was there too.
What took away from our comfort was that there was only living room seating for three of us (there were five people in our party), and that there was only air conditioning in the main living quarters, not in the bedrooms. We prefer to close bedroom doors for privacy, but the bedrooms were uncomfortably warm and stuffy as a result. It wouldn't be enough to prevent us from staying here again though.
Great fire pit, nice quite location. Lots of kid friendly things to do in the area.
We had an amazing time staying at this house. Washer and dryer (detergent and fabric softener already there) were very helpful with two toddlers. Everything in the house was nice and clean and as described. The house was actually bigger than we thought it would be. Kitchen was stacked with all necessities including coffee filters. Area is very quiet and relaxing. Hager Beach was amazing. It is literally 1.5 minute drive from the house and about 20 minute walk. Not a lot of people there so there was plenty of space for the kiddos to dig in the sand and have fun. . Sunset was gorgeous. Playground was a nice bonus for the kids. We will definitely come back.
We were there for the annual Ironman Steelhead 70.3 triathlon (2 nights).
Pros: Quiet, plenty of room, easy drive down M-63 to Jean Klock Park (race location). Owner was easy to work with.
Cons: House is on a dirt road (with a dirt driveway). Tracked sand and dirt in every time we came in. Air conditioning was a single window unit. Did not feel that it cooled the house enough at night. No paper towels in kitchen, no spare toilet paper in bathroom. Beds were not very comfortable at all. As athletes, a good night sleep is essential for us. Will likely go back to staying at a hotel next time.
This is a cute home but lacking in several areas. There is no street number on the home. It was hard for us to locate it. Also there is only one mirror, in the bathroom. Each bedroom could use a mirror. There were no ice trays for the freezer - we "donated" (bought) some. But unfortunately, the worst was the electricity was turned OFF on our 2nd day. Needless to say we were shocked! The owner was able to get it turned back on the 3rd day and did refund us for two days stay. In all honesty he should have refunded us for the entire stay, with a huge apology (unfortunately we were not even given an apology). This experience has made me VERY nervous to rent with VRBO. I have rented countless properties and this type of situation has never happened. I did report this to VRBO, perhaps that is why I received the two nights credit....
The Tulip house was a cozy getaway with the basics supplied and ready to go. Towels, dishes, utensils, laundry room, grill and complimentary coffee were all available. On the rainy day we watched some of their family DVDs available. It was a fair price for the money and SOOO much nicer than staying in a hotel. We were able to take an easy walk to Lake Michigan Hagar Park to enjoy skipping rocks. It was also nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of South Haven while still being a short drive away.
Hagar Beach is a public beach just .3 of a mile away. Roadside park is another public beach just 2 miles away from the cottage.
