Description

Truckee Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful location, family friendly cabin in the heart of Sierra ski country.

Enjoy the views of beautiful Donner Lake and Schallenberger Ridge in the Central Sierra Nevada Range from our cozy cabin's large deck or front windows. Our cabin is located in the middle of snow country. Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Donner Ski Ranch, Sugar Bowl, Royal Gorge and Tahoe Donner are all within 15-20 minutes from our door. Ice fishing up the hill at Prosser Lake. Donner State Park, which is just a mile and a half from us at the end of the lake, has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

As our cabin has direct access to the lake; in summer, fish or swim off the dock in front of us, enjoy the many water sports possible on the lake, or take a 20 minute ride over to North Tahoe to enjoy the 'big lake' on the mountain. There are 7 golf courses within 15-18 minute drive, historic Truckee and the Transcontinental Railroad to explore. Rock climbing, hiking, shopping, live music /concerts, mountain biking in the area, are all possibilities. Gambling/Casinos in Reno about 30 minutes up Interstate 80.

Our cabin is approximately 1400 square feet in size with space for two cars to park right by the back door. The main entrance to the cabin is from the back. As you enter, you have the kitchen on your right and a door into the main level bedroom and bathroom on your left. This bedroom has a queen bed and the bathroom has a tub/shower combination. Beyond the eating bar is the living area with an 8 foot dining table on one side and a couch and loveseat facing the fireplace on the other. Downstairs there are two bedrooms and a small bath. One bedroom has two twins and the other bedroom has a queen bed. From the downstairs hallway , you can go into another hallway that has a washer and dryer, a wood room that houses the wood for the fireplace and a door to the outside to take steps down to the road and lake. The loft is open to the main level and has 4 twin beds. Three of these beds are very close to each other (best for kids). There is another parking pad at lake level for one car.

THIS IS A NO SMOKING PROPERTY.

About Norma and Bill Markley

We built this cabin as a young couple in 1977. It is our 'first child' and has continued to be updated throughout the years. Our two sons grew up knowing this place as an extension of home and now our grandkids do. When we first built this, we thought we would enjoy it mostly in winter but find we actually, like the summers even better.

Why Norma and Bill Markley chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

Being skiers and outdoor enthusiasts, we fell in love with the area. Our goal was to build a cabin with a view and easy access to skiing, hiking, and water play. We were able to purchase the small piece of ground with the view of Donner Lake and direct access to the water and plowed roads in the winter. We then, 4 years later, built a cabin on it.

What makes this cabin unique

Location! Lake right below us where we can actual see our family on the dock. Northstar, Sugar Bowl and Squaw Valley just 15 minutes away. Historical Truckee and the major ski resorts have many scheduled events throughout the year.

Beautiful lake view cabin

This was the perfect spot for our weekend at the lake. Close to walking/hiking and a quick drive into adorable downtown Truckee. Exceeded expectations! We hope to come again in ski season.

Perfect getaway and great views

  • 5 of 5

We had a family get together and the kids enjoyed the place. The house is stocked with all amenities including bikes, board games, nice DVD's for both adults and kids. The owners were prompt in their responses. The view of Donner lake was amazing. Barbeque is a nice addition as well. Overall a pleasant stay the family and we will visit again in the future.

What a Great Place to Make Memories!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this VRBO rental for an annual girls' trip. There are three of us and we have been friends since we were children! We all grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of us is still there, the other is in Oregon, and I am in Reno, NV. was my turn to plan the trip and I realized after living in Reno for 38 years I have never spent any time at Donner Lake. When I first started looking for houses with a view of the lake, this house came up and I knew this was the place for our next adventure. The Owners were so responsive and helpful. When we arrived the directions we were given were so easy to follow, and when we walked in to the house, the first thing we noticed is how clean it was. The Owners did so many nice things that I don't expect in a rental, namely, each evening the decoration on the fireplace lit up as well as a candle in a centerpiece on the dining table, then later, lights strung around the deck came on, what a nice surprise. We decided to make a few meals and we're happy that all the kitchen utensils we needed were available.

The only things I would say to potential renters is the traffic on the road directly below the house is surprising, and the pillows on the beds are very hard, there is no hair dryer, and although linens were provided, the beds were not made up which has not been my experience in all other houses that I have rented.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your glowing review and appreciating our personal touches. Because we and our children still use it, we don't think of it as a true rental. You are right! We replaced two pillows this Spring and found that firm on the label should have said "extra" firm. We like firm pillows but they are beyond that. Guess I need to go back to the store... Linens- In order to keep cleaning service costs as low as possible, we have a lady come in and do all the linens and bath rugs but not put the sheets on. If we had her put the linens on, it would cost our guests an extra $30. Plus, the city of Truckee taxes the cleaning fee. (A real bummer!) However, we will put that information for our future guests in our cabin information. Thanks! We hope you will consider us again in the future....
