Rustic Country style Home
This is a unique 4-bedroom, 2-bath, 3-story home set on 13 acres of woodlands and rolling fields located 2 miles outside the town of Spencer, NY. The house has a beautiful view of meadows and wooded hills and is ¼ mile off a country road, with lots of peace and quiet. This is a wonderful place to enjoy nature, wildlife, and the great outdoors.
The A-frame forms the 20-foot-high ceiling of the living room, which features knotty pine walls, wood beams, a fieldstone chimney, and a huge glass wall that opens onto a 12x24-foot second-floor deck. On this floor you’ll find a large, fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, dining room, bath, and a bedroom with a private deck. The first floor has a bedroom, family room, large bath, and utility/storage areas. The third floor consists of 2 bedrooms in a loft that overlooks the airy living room.
The 4 bedrooms contain 2 queen-size beds, 3 full-size futons, and 1 twin bed; additional sleeping space is available. The living room and family room have oversized couches, recliners, rockers, and 2 large TVs. There is wireless high-speed Internet service and a landline phone for local calls. The house is fully equipped with sheets, towels, microwave, dishes, cookware, utensils, etc., and is ready for your stay.
There is no smoking in the house. The property and house is dog friendly – a great place for dogs to run. There is a fire-ring out front and a brook along the property edge. The décor is hunting-lodge style, with mounted deer, turkeys, pheasant, and elk antlers, plus lots of wildlife art and carved decoys.
The town of Spencer is about 16 miles south of Ithaca and 20 miles east of Watkins Glen. There are lots of attractions within an easy drive: Finger Lakes wineries, State parks with waterfalls and gorges, Tioga Downs (harness racing and gaming), Watkins Glen racetrack, Corning Glass Museum, antique shops, Quilt shops etc. Spencer has a grocery store, bank, gas station, dollar and hardware stores, churches, hair salon, library and several good restaurants. It’s an easy drive to full shopping areas, malls, and upscale dining. There is an 18-hole golf course and country club nearby.
Great place for a retreat whether it be with family, or for those who like to get away on a scrapbooking or sewing retreat, as well as a refreshing time for church groups. Any outdoor activities are at your own risk.

We have been married for 33 years and we have three married daughters, four grandchildren, (so far) and one old dog. My husband enjoys hunting and fishing. I enjoy gourmet cooking, sewing, crocheting and spending time with family and friends .
Cheryl purchased this house in 2004
My husband has relatives who live in the area and he would come here to go hunting. Fell in love with the area convinced me to come up here, and the rest is history. We actually have talked about retiring here.
We enjoy the peace and quiet, the wildlife and the easy access to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Elmira, Binghamton and surrounding areas.
We stayed with family (9 people in total) for a long weekend for Cornell graduation. Our dog was welcome too. House is comfortable and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. We were close enough to Cornell to go back and forth for graduation events. It was also great to have the wonderful peace and quiet of a secluded home. Still there's a market just down the road (about 2 miles or so). Cheryl was prompt in replies throughout the process before and after we made a reservation. Roger came to welcome us just after we arrived and offered assistance with anything we might need. I highly recommend this property for a graduation or vacation rental.
We were two families attending Cornell Grauation and rented this house to provide us more room and ability to get together and enjoy some time away from the busy campus. It was beyond our expectations. The house is filled with everything you would need. Cheryl was totally accessable with any questions I had (everything is organized and marked so there really shouldn't be any). The drive to Ithaca-CU- is about 1/2 hour. It was not bad and your GPS make take you on an out of the way route - on a dirt road for a bit- don't get nervous- it is correct!
There is a lovely fire pit that we used in addition to the outdoor grill. Also an outdoor ping pong talbe. Had s'mores and FUN!
The property is beautiful and my mother-in-law loved sitting on the deck enjoying the view.
There is lots of space for sleeping and the house was spotless!
I cannot recommend this property enough. I am confident you will love it like we did! If we get the chance we want to go back and stay here again. Thanks Cheryl!!!
Great location, close to the Parks (Watkins Glen, Buttermilk falls, Robert H Treman, Two Rivers, etc) a very inviting house.. There were 6 adults & 5 kids in our group and we had more than enough space. The owner was so kind! We'll definitely rent this property again.
Quick 13 min lovely drive to Ithaca for graduation activity and so glad to have a peaceful house to come back to. Home amazed us all, large and roomy, no neighbors beautiful 13 acre lot. We saw a deer in the front, it was magical. Took hikes with kids in search of butterflies and bunnies. Each bedroom is really attractive and comfortable, lots of supplies of every kind, from kitchen equipped for large groups, to board games, DVD supply, and a chess set, one of a kind. Furniture and everything in good quality', best vacation home ever!! Spencer just a couple miles and great local pizza and pasta, groceries, and small lake. I highly recommend this home and the peace away form town, yet close by. We will be back!
We absolutely loved this house! It is in a great location..tucked away in the woods (great for little ones to explore!) and yet easy access to a lot of fun! We were there for Cornell's graduation...we were able to fit in a hike at Watkin's Glen (highly recommend!) as well as take a short trip to The Fingerlakes. I think the house is nicer than what is reflected in the pictures of the indoors. There were 6 adults & 2 kids in our group and we had more than enough space! The owners are so kind! I accidentally left a kitchen gadget there (though it turns out I didn't need to bring anything b/c she had it all there!)... she was kind enough to send it to me! I would absolutely stay there again!
My family stayed at the house for a family wedding and we could not have been more pleased. The house had everything you need to make your stay enjoyable.
Thanks for sharing your home with us
We are in a rural area, yet within easy driving distance to many State Parks, museums, shopping, sight seeing, etc.
