The first floor has decks both front and back with a slider opening to the deck facing Lobster Cove and the Atlantic ocean Lobster cove is a sandy/rocky beach perfect for building sandcastles, searching for treasures or just sitting in your chair watching the sunrise, waves, boats and birds go by. The dining room table has 2 benches and seats 6 people as well as a bar at the kitchen with 2 stools. There are 2 Adirondack chairs for outside use along with 4 portable chairs which are kept in the shed and are great for sitting on the beach in front or taking with you to your favorite picnic spot. The beach is perfect for launching your kayaks or taking a swim. There are 2 Maine lobster 'shacks' within two miles of the cottage if you want your lobsters prepared for you or if you wish to cook them yourselves, there is the Maine Coast Lobster company just a 1/2 mile away that sells to the public or Jess's Market just 10 minutes away that sells lobster as well as a wide array of the freshest fish and seafood available. If your prefer a restaurant, there are dozens in nearby Rockland and its vicinity. There is parking for 2 cars and plenty of grass to play games. There is also a clothes line to dry towels. There is no phone, TV or internet but the cell service is great for the major carriers. If you need to do laundry, the Park St Laundry in Rockland will wash, dry and fold your clothes, just drop them off on your way into town. We can provide bed linens and towels for 4 for a $50 additional fee.

About Mike

We are a busy family of 6 that loves God, adventure, sports, the outdoors and spending time together and with friends. We purchased this cottage as a get-a-way from the busy-ness of our everyday lives.

Mike purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Mike chose MidCoast and Penobscot Bay

We love this little cottage by the sea. From the minute you drive over the causeway connecting the island to the mainland, you can feel the stress of life fall away and the peaceful ocean views revive you. It is the perfect escape for us several times each season. We enjoy sitting on the deck or beach, poking in the sand for treasures and playing games together at night. It is cozy and quiet and the perfect place to spend time. When we feel like going out for dinner or walking around town, we love the fact that Rockland is just minutes away and offers so much that we enjoy doing together. We hope you will come to love this place as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

The stunning views of the ocean from inside or on the deck are spell binding. We love making up appetizers and taking them out to sit on the beach in the afternoon with a glass of wine and just watching the ocean. Or jumping in the kayak and taking an evening sunset 'cruise' around the island.

Beautiful Setting, But Not Properly Cared For

  • 2 of 5

The cottage and setting were amazing, this part of Maine is so beautiful and this area specifically was very neat for our young family.

The cottage setup was great, super close to the water and very quiet.

The main issues that we had were that upon arrival:

1) The cottage smelled of animals, even though the listings says no animals allowed. We even found animal hair throughout.

2) The bathroom clearly had not been cleaned and smelled of urine, so much so that my wife had to clean it herself when we first got there.

3) The toilet was wobbly and had been rigged up on shims, a bit scary and not really up to code. The owner later told us he was completely aware of this as if it was normal and not an issue.

3) We wrongly assumed that the blankets and comforter were included in the $50 "linen cleaning fee" and left them with all the other dirty linens when we left.

The owner let us know they are not part of the cleaning fee and told us that because they were in with the other linens he had to have them re-washed and kept some of our deposit.

Not only did we feel that was unfair, but we also could not believe that we just slept under blankets that are "not normally cleaned"... yikes.

Overall, the place is beautiful and the setting is out of this world. As long as you don't mind the above sort of things, you'll be fine. We just feel like with spending this kind of money the place should at least be properly cleaned.

Sweet, peaceful cottage with beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cottage in September and it was lovely! The view of the cove is wonderful - you see the sunrise right from the cottage - and the shore is great for exploring. It's a wonderful place to stay all day and never leave, as well as explore the region.

Sprucehead Island is a sweet place. McLoon's Lobster Shack is a gem for lunch or dinner. The little village roads are great for taking walks. It's a great place to base yourself from for exploring the mid-coast region as this property provides a nice, peaceful respite from the business of Camden/Rockland town areas.

The property was clean and very comfortable. The propane heater was more than adequate for heating the cottage (we had overnight temps in the 40s). The decks on both the front and shore-side of the cottages are perfect for hanging out outdoors. For those seeking complete privacy or woods, this cottage does have very close neighbors, as the lots on the island seem quite small and quaint. But it wasn't a nuisance as everything is so sweet and cozy seeming! I think this place is perfect for a couple or for a small family (kids upstairs in the loft, parents on the futon downstairs). We had a great time!

Great place for a restful escape

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place for a quiet rest and get away. We enjoyed the great views and setting on the cove. Yet it is close to Rockland and Camden for great restaurants. We appreciated the detailed information package sent by the owners before the trip with area suggestions.

Great view and the home itself was well kept

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was great and relaxing. The cottage had a peaceful view and the home itself was clean and well kept. It being on an island was a nice touch for more privacy and the town's were a close drive away. Mike was helpful when questions were asked as well. But that view was the trip difference. We found ourselves coming back to the cottage early at times to relax for its view. We were lucky to book this place at a great price.

It felt like home-away-from-home by the sea!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is just so quaint and so beautifully located!! Very clean as well! It was just wonderful to sit on the back deck and enjoy watching the variety of birds that visit the water. Every day was an adventure on the beach that is just a few steps away. The constant breeze of sea air was wonderful to breath for a week! The owners were very accommodating with all of the kitchen ware needed for feeding a family. We will definitely return to this lovely place if we get the opportunity to vacation in the area again!!
