Our spacious and quiet 1926 home is located in the hills of Echo Park with amazing views of downtown LA, the Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood sign. The house has two floors, a fireplace, a basement where the wine cellar and washer/dryer are located. There are wood floors throughout.
We have three large bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The two upstairs bedrooms have their own balconies and walk-in closets. The mahogany gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with a Viking oven, dishwasher, professional fridge and freezer, espresso machine etc. the kitchen flows into the airy dining room which opens onto our very private grapevine covered patio.
In front of the house is a large terraced garden with several sunny and shaded sitting areas among the fruit trees and lavender.
Our comfortable hillside home is centrally located and convenient to downtown LA, the 5, 101 and 110 freeways. There is plenty of street parking and a garage as well.
There is a lovely coffee shop, Fix a 5 minute walk down the hill and many restaurants, bars and clubs on and around Sunset Blvd.
We look forward to hosting you here!
Martineke and Larry
This truly is one of the most amazing homes in Echo Park.
My wife and I, and our two dogs, spent Thanksgiving week at this amazing home. We could not have asked for a better vacation rental experience!
Martineke met us when we arrived, and she was incredibly warm and friendly. She walked us through the house to make sure we knew where to find everything, and she even left out some tennis balls and toys for our ball-obsessed dogs :)
The home and property are beautiful, well-maintained, and very clean. Among the highlights for us were the many outdoor sitting areas, the well-stocked kitchen, comfortable bed, and all of the natural light that flows through the house. And the piano was a big hit, too!
The neighborhood was perfect for us, as Elysian Park is nearby with its dog-friendly trails, and the restaurants and shops on Sunset Blvd are a short drive away. Echo Park is a super interesting neighborhood, and this particular part has lots of steep hills and amazing views.
I highly recommend Martineke’s home - we will absolutely stay here again when we’re in LA!
This was by far the most AMAZING rental experience I've had, and Martineke is definitely the most welcoming host. Her home is as described, beautiful and unique and the views are breathtaking- from the kitchen you can see the Hollywood sign and from the front patio downtown LA is there for your eyes to feast on. My group and I spent many hours on the front terrace, enjoyed the fragrant jasmine blossoms, and watched the sun and fog play on the DTLA skyline. The house is not only comfortable and clean, but you also feel like you could close your eyes and imagine living there, that you could wake up in the California King bed, make a cup of coffee, and this could be your own place to call home. or at least that is how I felt every morning! A real home away from home. I would recommend staying here as a group or for family vacations as there is enough space to not feel cramped, and for everyone to have their own area to put their feet up and relax. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking meals and the basement has laundry services. The neighborhood of Echo Park is a great location to visit itself and also a central point to see much of the rest of the LA area. I would recommend using uber to get around- from Echo Park to Downtown cost around $8 one way which was very convenient for our group that was traveling there every day for a conference at the convention center. I will definitely look to see if Martineke's home is available for our next trip to LA! 5+ stars
The pictures do not do justice for this beautiful, well maintained home! When we arrived and entered the walkway, the sights and smells of the gorgeous landscaped property told us this was a perfect place for our family stay. We were met by our gracious host who showed us around this spacious home. Large family room with an incredible view out the large picture window, fabulous chefs kitchen, 3 comfortable bedrooms, 2 sparkling clean bathrooms large enough to accommodate our family of 7.
Attention to detail with splendid decor, blooming orchids, and everything we needed to feel at home. Larry and Martineke were excellent hosts, leaving a list of instructions and local restaurants and just a phone call away for any questions.
Perfectly located near many activities, we took a ride down Sunset Blvd all the way to the beach for lunch and cocktails! Getting to see Beverly Hills and Belair!
We will definitely be back to stay at this gem!
Amazing home with great views. The hosts made us feel at right home. Great communication and a house that feels like home. The yard is gorgeous and the inside nice and cozy. The neighborhood is great and fun to explore. This was my favorite VRBO experience to date.
We had such a nice stay here! This extremely charming, nice sized, 1920's Spanish style home is so full of character and inviting places, in every direction, to sit and enjoy your vacation, in style ! Inside and out! We found the owners to be so thoughtful and considerate. They contacted us by phone to make sure we were happy, asked if we needed anything during our stay and we felt like they truly cared about our comfort.
The backyard patio provided the perfect, private place to have drinks and mingle ...with the pretty garden, plenty of comfy seating and the tiny, white decorative lights plugged in on the pergola above. We had some beautiful nights out there enjoying the tranquil atmosphere!
The VIEWS are incredible!!! From both the front of the home outside and from inside too. And more amazing views can be had from the two balconies upstairs. And even from the bathroom there is a view! You can be in the bathroom putting on your make-up and see the LA skyline in the distance at the same time, now that's fun ! Also, the art work throughout the home is so intriguing and homey. We felt like this home added to our vacation experience, in the best way possible. It was a treat to be here.
I'm trying to think of any tips or minuses to help future guests. And all I can think of is that we could not find any outlets (for hair dryer) in the bathrooms. So we used an outlet in another room, not a bathroom. And there was quite a full fridge of their own food when we arrived...barely room for our own beverages or leftovers. It wasn't a big problem. There were plenty of dishes and utensils and glasses. Which was great. The closets were filled with their own clothes, so not a lot of space to hang your own. And it felt a little awkward sliding their clothing down to make room...I was worried I'd wrinkle her skirts and blouses. Those were really minor inconveniences though, compared to the overall perfection of the home and its location to where we wanted to be. Oh, if you aren't familiar with the streets in this neighborhood, they are STEEP in areas. Very steep. And narrow. Right in front of this house, there is plenty of parking though. And in the driveway of course too. But getting to the house you might need to maneuver some streets that reminded me of San Francisco. :). It's actually fun after you get used to it.
Last, but not least, they warmly welcomed our 30 lb doggie into their home too. Thank you!
We had a lovely stay here. The owner greeted us in person and made us feel like welcomed guests. I feel lucky that the owners shared this special place with us! Would definitely come back next time my family is in LA.
