The house and garden looked lovely on the website, but they turned out to be even nicer than we expected. The garden and pool, in particular, are a delight - pretty, secluded, peaceful. We found the location very convenient - you can get to Universal Studios in just 10/15 minutes - and Michael and Daphne could not have been more helpful. We have stayed in a few VRBO properties but this is easily our favourite.
It was the picture of the pool in the back that grabbed our attention when we booked - and the quaint, cozy and VERY tranquil backyard was more than we could have asked for. The foliage and flowers combined with having a privacy fence gave us the peace and quiet we were seeking. We enjoyed breakfast poolside almost each morning we were there.
Let me back up and start by location - Hands down, the best location with regard to all of the day trips we had planned. We headed into Los Angeles about 3 or 4 times throughout the week and although it is only 5 miles away, the trip took us about 40 minutes each time (to be expected by the way). You are just minutes away from the 101 and if you time it just right (mid-morning) you don't hit any traffic until you reach the exit to 170. That is where the traffic builds and you inch toward your destination, but if you plan ahead, the ride is great and people watching is fun. We also drove to Universal Studios and Warner Bros Studios and each drive took us less than 15 minutes. One day we drove to Long Beach so that we could catch the boat to Catalina Island and the distance is about 48 miles. We left about 6:15a and got there in 45 minutes. Needless to say we were probably lucky. We drove to and from Santa Monica and Venice Beach a few times and again, you are looking at about 45 minutes each way although the distance is only 20 miles or less. We spent a portion of the day in Glendale ( I highly recommend the Glendale Galleria for shopping!) and that was only a 15 minute drive as well.
The house itself - The bedrooms are beautifully set with queen sized (extremely comfortable) beds and bright white linens. The master bedroom is where I stayed with my daughter and we had our own private bathroom which was a perk. The bedroom itself was bright and very large, so it was perfect for the two of us to share. My sister took the second bedroom and again, very spacious with an incredibly comfortable queen sized bed. My son took the third room which doubles as an office and had a twin day bed in it. Perfect for him to have his own space and he liked it because double french doors led out to the pool. There is a second, very large bathroom between the other two rooms.
My word limit is up - but the rest of the home is absolutely perfect and I will definitely book again. Michael and Daphne were helpful with anything we needed and the neighborhood was safe with easy access to groceries, gas and freeways.
Our family of 5 (3 kids ages 10-16) stayed here 3 nights as part of our Southern California spring break. When you first see the house, it looks like a cute little house (which it is!) but when you walk into the back yard, it is really like a little piece of paradise! The roses and other flowers, the pool and hot tub - it is simply lovely. Even though the pool was pretty chilly, we enjoyed going between it and the hot tub. What a way to relax after a busy day of sight-seeing! The location was also great - it took us an hour to get to Disneyland on Friday morning - which was better than we'd expected! Otherwise, we visited the Warner Bros. studio (highly recommended!), which is 10 minutes away and did a Hollywood tour, which is also very close. We took advantage of the very nearby upscale grocery store, as well. Santa Monica and Venice Beach were about a 35 minute drive for us. Highly recommend this house!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hesby House. The village location is very relaxed and is a great base to get to lots of tourist attractions. The house was very comfortable and exactly as described. We enjoyed the pool and the garden. Mike and Daphne were very helpful in answering our questions and provided all the equipment needed in the house. Thank you!!
Stayed the week after Christmas during our visit to the Rose Bowl. Property was terrific and as shown in the pictures. Clean, well-stocked, comfortable beds, great wifi, and all the amenities needed. We were delighted to have a beautiful Christmas tree in the family room as we didn't spend much time celebrating back East. A lovely touch. Thrilled with the lemon, grapefruit, and orange trees in addition to fresh herbs left for us! A quiet neighborhood with ample parking. Great central location if you are not going into LA everyday. Nice, easy access to highway to Reagan Presidential Library, Pasadena, Burbank, Riverside's Mission Inn, and trips to LA. We are quiet folk and very much enjoyed being able to relax and read in a variety of rooms in the evening. Had 1 blip (no coffee cups), but had them within hours of asking - lots of expresso cups though! (must be an east coast-west coast preference). Well stocked with everything you'll need, great towels, and great pressure in the shower. For Rose Bowl, plan to leave at 3:30-4am to get to seats on parade route. Highly recommend spending 1-2 full days volunteering on putting the floats together. This has been a life-long wish for we three sisters and we were over the moon! Not a thing was overlooked. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back!
Valley Village is an enclave centered between Studio City, Sherman Oaks and Burbank that is perfectly located for everything Los Angeles has to offer.
Established in 1939, it is now home to musicians, film makers, actors and writers who are drawn to the quiet streets, charming homes, easy access to studios, the shopping and restaurants along Ventura Boulevard and the ability to become lost in nature on the trails in the Santa Monica Mountains that are just minutes to the south.
This is the perfect location for going to different parts of Los Angeles: the freeways to downtown, the beaches and other attractions are close by. And the canyon roads - famed Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Coldwater Canyon - offer a beautiful way of getting to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
