Shari DeNardo purchased this house in 2011
The Laurel Highlands caters to the outdoor enthusiast offering a vast array of activities for every type of traveler: those who love the thrill of white water rafting and downhill skiing; those who enjoy fishing and hunting; those who are more conservative in their travels and are interested history, covered bridges and wineries; and, of course, those who gravitate towards resort vacationing, spas and golf courses. It has something for everyone!
This property is unique because of its close proximity to resorts and recreation, yet it is nestled among a forest of trees, on a mountaintop that is peaceful, serene and tranquil. It encourages quality time and relaxation. The only noise you hear is the rustling of the trees and the occasional whinny from the horses on the neighboring ranch.
The house's layout, with a great room and adjacent dining room/kitchen, enables a large group such as ours (17 people) to really hang out together; even the person(s) preparing meals can remain a part of the conversation. The house is beautifully appointed and maintained. Dishes and cooking utensils were plentiful and of good quality. The geothermal system kept us comfortable despite some very cold weather.
Sharon was very easy to deal with. We needed to change out travel dates and she was extremely accommodating. When we arrived at the home, we were left breathless. The pictures did not do it justice. The house is warm and inviting and had ample room to fit all 13 of us comfortably. We are talking of making this an annual event to be host at this venue.
Extremely spacious with a great layout. We were 6 adults and 3 little ones. The arrangement of bedrooms suited us perfectly. 2 of the bedrooms are adjoining -- one having bunk beds which was good for little boys. The kitchen is spacious and easily accommodates 10 to eat at an island at the same time. The kitchen has 2 refrigerators, which we needed with all the food, drink we brought for a 5 day stay. High end outdoor grill with propane is on back deck. We used it twice. There is a fire pit on the back of the property about 75 to 100 feet from the house. There was about 1/4 chord of wood available which was stacked in an open shed - plenty for our 5 day stay. The lower level has game/TV room adjacent to the kitchen and there is a pool table - which was a pleasant surprise. One of the bedrooms sits off the game room. We did not use it -- it has I think a double bed. The best bedroom is on the main lower level at the opposite end from the game room. It is huge and has a fantastic bathroom. Overall, there are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms - with all bathrooms ideally located for the bedrooms. There is powder room off the large foyer. The property was extremely clean and obviously well maintained. The property sits in a quiet, wooded setting shielded from adjacent properties by trees, vegetation etc. Very peaceful. There is a winery about 5 miles distant which we enjoyed -- owners super friendly. We recommend it - wine tasting is part of their business. All in all this property exceeded our expectations in just about all ways. Great for families with small children, or children of any age. We did not eat out at any restaurants -- we wanted to enjoy the house. Highly recommend this property. And, the drive can handle probably 6 cars without having to car juggle.
Our stay was late September, so the days where pleasant and the evenings cool. The home was a very comfortable stay with plenty of
room. The fire pit was just a short walk away from the home so using it was easily accessible. The deck had plenty enough room for
two tables, so eating outside was no problem. Rooms where spacious and comfortable. The only minor downsides where the amount
of wood for burning would have been a little lean if we burned later in the evening, but rain prevented late outside burning. The only other
problem is the bunk beds where more for children than adult men. A few guys slept on couches for that reason. A family stay would be
great for this home as well as our golf group will keep it in our loop of weekend golf outings. The home was the best our group has used
in over thirty five years of having this event. Rachele was more than pleasant and accommodating when my wife and I visited the home the
prior weekend. My wife's quote was "this is way too nice for our group". If you rent this home. you will not be disappointed.
i've been renting redwood and sundance together for 4 years now, for both a large family gathering (grandparents through toddlers) and a guys golf trip. the houses are great for both and our annual return is a clear indicator of how much we enjoy them. the layout is great for a bunch of adults and the yards work well for outdoor activities. we expect to be back in 2017.
This was our 4th year renting both Redwood and Sundance for our annual family reunion and it again was a terrific week. At times, we had 30 folks counting little guys, and probably averaged around 15 to 20 for the week. They come and go as fits in their schedules. Plenty of room and plenty of fun.
We'll be back again next year. You can count on that.
