About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, musician and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose South Lake Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the paneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

Cozy log cabin close to the lake

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy log cabin. The kitchen had everything we needed, lots of comfy furniture for lounging, a picnic table for eating outside, plenty of room for everyone inside, clean and inviting house. We walked just a few blocks to get to the lake. We rented SUP's in the morning right at the lake. We brought our own bikes, but there are plenty of places nearby to rent them. Biking is a great way to get around Lake Tahoe.

There are several groceries stores near the house.

Owner's Response: So cool to hear the aspects guest enjoy most about our cozy log cabin. There are so many, and I too love the proximity to the lake, bike paths, kayak and boat rentals, grocery stores, Heavenly Valley ski slopes... window shopping at Stateline and theaters. Also only a few blocks away is an Olympic swimming pool and ice skating rink year-round. Most of all I agree that cooking and staying in for the night is homey and intimate. Thanks for your thoughts and reflections of our cabin.

Loved the short weekend getting away with friends. All the amenities of home but once inside it felt like you were off in the mountains totally away from it all. Thank you, Tami

Very cozy!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is cozy and has a great welcoming vibe. The onsite manager was friendly and helped us with a small item that we forgot to bring with us. Great location. Great Tahoe feel and vibe. Kitchen was stocked with all the necessities and the showers were hot! Thanks for the great mini-vacay!

Owner's Response: We really desire to make this the coziest most memorable vacation ever! The manager next door attending to details, my phone poised to respond to renters questions, the kitchen equipped to make cooking-in creative and fun, as well as not needing to drive anywhere to pick-up or drop-off keys are just a few of the little things that make a vacation smooth and relaxing. Thanks for noticing!

Cute, cozy, rustic

  • 4 of 5

This Tahoe cabin is very cute. Warm and inviting. Cozy like the pictures show. Easy functional home to figure out-- not like some where you can't find this or that. We took our teen boys skiing for a long weekend and it was great to come back here and spread out after skiing all day at Heavenly. ( the resort and bus routes and parking were not easy to figure out -- not a cabin complaint tho) Laurie was very accommodating and accessible for any glitches which we had none of. Great living room furniture and kitchen was perfect for any home cooked meal for a hungry group. Close to shops and town and if you like to hike around on foot like me the lake and town is easy walkable. The only drawback-- which was only for myself due to being a sensitive sleeper-- the bed mattresses are on the floor --not of itself a big deal-- but they were soooo soft-- my butt sank into a a valley and it was a wee uncomfortable. Perhaps a little dated. The boys of course didn't care- -- Otherwise a perfectly enjoyable, comfortable and returnable place. Thanks Laurie!!

Owner's Response: Thank-you for all your encouraging comments. I enjoyed our interactions and you were a gracious guest! We have just ordered all new mattresses for both sides of the log cabin, I had one other comment lately, concerning these mattresses, and have already ordered all new mattresses for both sides of the cabin. Thank-you for allows me to better your next experience at our cosy log cabin! Sincerely, Laurie
