About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, musician and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose South Lake Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the paneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

Lovely, homey cabin stay

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was well kept and everything you could need was supplied. Lots of room for several people. It was just the two of us but would easily accommodate 8 people. But you need to be quiet. No real sound barrier between cabin 1 and 2. Reminder no hair dryer, but CVS was just down the road. Short walk to the beach. The beach was beautiful. Cabin is close by to drive to dinner , lunch and all the breathtaking vistas that Lake Tahoe offers. We had a fantastic time!

I have no complaints and only compliments- except the pillows- they need to be fluffier

Lovely, large cabin. Beautifully decorated. Couldn't ask for a better location!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I saw the pics online, I knew this was the place I wanted to take my mom and sister. This vacation was long overdue as all of us were so busy we hardly had time to come together and really visit.

We all live in Colorado and I must say Colorado is beautiful, but nothing compares to Lake Tahoe with the tall trees, blue skies, and of course THAT lake.

When we arrived at our "home for the week" we were just charmed by the overall ambiance of the cabin. It was large, much larger than expected. The carefully selected decorations added a rich rustic feel. The living room was quite spacious and the furniture was attractive and comfortable. All of the appliances were clean and they worked! The kitchen, prep area and dining area worked really well in terms of size and our ability to stay out of each others way when fixing meals.

Checking in and out was simple. Town was close, but you couldn't tell by the quiet surroundings. We enjoyed walking up and down the streets looking at all the unique houses. However, we all concluded that if we lived in Tahoe, we would want to live in the cabin we were staying at. Very nice, no disappointments. We would recommend this abode to anyone. Would work well for a larger group too.

Rustic luxury

  • 5 of 5

We loved our girls weekend in this beautiful log cabin! While the decor of the cabin had a very rustic vibe, there was nothing lacking in amenities. Full kitchen (including several appliances), two bathrooms, entertainment system, wifi, laundry machines etc--we had more than we needed for our weekend stay. We were extremely comfortable.

The cabin is just a couple blocks away from the lake, quite an easy walk to the beach! When the weather was too poor to enjoy the outdoors, we still enjoyed staying in such a cozy cabin.

We would have loved to use the wood burning stove in the living room, but didn't come across any firewood to purchase in town.

We felt that the rate was extremely reasonable given the cabin's proximity to the lake, amenities, and comfort. The property manager was also very pleasant and available for any questions/needs that came up. Overall, we would definitely return here in the future with more friends!

Perfect! Made our vacation a delight! Great Location, Beautiful Interior, Cozy

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is spacious, with really nice interior design which is rustic. Coming for the Northeast, staying in a log cabin while enjoying all the amenities of a luxury apartment was perfect for my wife and I, with a little daughter in toe. Bathroom both upstairs and downstairs.

Easy quick walk to a quiet lake front park. Went for sunrise and sunset. And couldn't of been happier with Laurie. She was so responsive and accommodating, and obviously takes great pride in her quint cabin. Highly recommend.

Cozy log cabin close to the lake

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy log cabin. The kitchen had everything we needed, lots of comfy furniture for lounging, a picnic table for eating outside, plenty of room for everyone inside, clean and inviting house. We walked just a few blocks to get to the lake. We rented SUP's in the morning right at the lake. We brought our own bikes, but there are plenty of places nearby to rent them. Biking is a great way to get around Lake Tahoe.

There are several groceries stores near the house.

Owner's Response: So cool to hear the aspects guest enjoy most about our cozy log cabin. There are so many, and I too love the proximity to the lake, bike paths, kayak and boat rentals, grocery stores, Heavenly Valley ski slopes... window shopping at Stateline and theaters. Also only a few blocks away is an Olympic swimming pool and ice skating rink year-round. Most of all I agree that cooking and staying in for the night is homey and intimate. Thanks for your thoughts and reflections of our cabin.
