About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, musician and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose South Lake Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the paneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

We loved staying at this lovely, spacious log cabin in South Lake Tahoe.

It is extremely convenient and comfortable. It is located about one block from the beach. It is within walking distance from a fantastic inexpensive vegan restaurant and bicycle rental store. It is minutes from down town yet in a very quiet and safe neighborhood.

Being from the east we loved the western motif. You are in for a treat.

The owner Lorie was in contact with us to make sure everything went well.

We highly recommend this accommodation for any time of the year.

Owner's Response: I feel so blessed! The compliments the cabin receives are not surprising, as it is what it is, 'Awesome'... but thank-you for noticing my attentiveness. I absolutely love to lavish my guests!

Super cozy and prime location

  • 4 of 5

We loved it! The area was beautiful and the cabin was really cute and cozy. There were just a few things that were a miss. You could hear everything in every room. Including the neighbors conversation. There were some small details, like lights in the shower. But the kitchen was great and we had a blast because of the cabin. Thank you so much!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your candidness. I am so glad you had a blast because of the log cabin! Our log cabin, though it feels like a house, is described as a duplex, 'alive' in sound yet shares a common wall . This is why though each side can sleep 10-12, I only allow 4 adults. The cabin rules express my concern about keeping noise to a dull roar:)

Owner's Response: Simply true. My family first used it as a ski cabin in the winter. We soon realized that summer was a blast and loved the fall and spring mountain get away feel! Tahoe is so amazing and the cabin is the cherry on the top of the hot fudge sundae.

Authentic log cabin visit. Amazing rustic and modern decor!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time staying in this rustic, homey cabin! With so much to choose from, the awesome reviews and photos made our decision easy and we were not disappointed! The cabin is close to everything, the lake, stores, restaurants, and all of the lovely sites Lake Tahoe has to offer! The neighborhood is very peaceful, quiet and friendly. The décor of this handmade log cabin is beyond amazing and extremely well kept and high tech. Melody and Laurie are very accommodating and go above and beyond to ensure your stay is perfect. We look forward to returning!

Lovely, homey cabin stay

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was well kept and everything you could need was supplied. Lots of room for several people. It was just the two of us but would easily accommodate 8 people. But you need to be quiet. No real sound barrier between cabin 1 and 2. Reminder no hair dryer, but CVS was just down the road. Short walk to the beach. The beach was beautiful. Cabin is close by to drive to dinner , lunch and all the breathtaking vistas that Lake Tahoe offers. We had a fantastic time!

I have no complaints and only compliments- except the pillows- they need to be fluffier🛎
