About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, musician and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose South Lake Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the paneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

Absolutely Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this cabin. The pictures don't do it justice - very roomy and the furnishings are very comfortable. If you're looking for something with a real, authentic 'cabin' feel, don't look any further. My son and daughter-in-law and their young son were here from Australia and they were over the moon with excitement when they walked through the front door. Two blocks from the water, close to everything and reasonably priced. If I ever have another opportunity to do this again I will definitely seek out this property. Thank you!

Owner's Response: SWEET! I love that our log cabin will become a story in Australia of unforgettable memories and a 'nostalgic' story!

The location of the cabin is perfect, we always have a great time at this Cabin!

  • 4 of 5

Thank you so much for the use of your cabin. We love being so close to the lake. The cabin is very homey but dark,. We hope to go back again soon!

Owner's Response: Yippee! so glad you had a great time and will be back. A log cabin is a different 'box', because there are not four drywalled parameters, wood is warm, and though there are many lights and windows, logs tend to absorb light and reflect a romantic, nastaligic hominess.

Very spacious! But had some downsides.

  • 3 of 5

We came late to this cabin and while the inside is super beautiful and spacious, there were some downsides to it.

The driveway wasn't shoveled and our car couldn't get inside. There's no way to park on the street so my friend had to shovel the driveway herself since waiting for someone to shovel the driveway was taking too long.

The entrance to the cabin was incredibly slippery (the neighbor said the manager didn't want the entry shoveled unless there was a lot of snow) which served a problem with a friend with a severe walking disability. We ended up having to help her to and from the cabin each way since there was so much ice.

And a few more things, such as spiderwebs everywhere, an alarm that would go off every time we opened the cabinets, and when leaving, we essentially have to wash the sheets and towels ourselves, essentially doing the job of the manager. :(

But overall, this cabin was comfortable and the location was super great. I only wish we could've stayed a little longer.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your complimentary ending that the cabin was comfortable, the location was super great and you would have liked to stay longer. Snow has been unrelenting this year, and driveway, walkway and deck is shoveled every 4-6 inches (shoveler lives across the street and comes sometimes 2-3 times a day in heavy snow) . 'MELT' is sprinkled on deck and walkways, (but rain, snow, rain, snow... welcome to Tahoe's beauty and challenges of winters) Our cleaning lady asks for 'used' sheets to be stripped (with used towels) and thrown to floor near washer... (if time allows, to begin a load). Cleaning fees for our cabin would typically be $150 or more, but Melody works harder for less to keep our guests rates low. Spider webs are swept at each cleaning . Log cabins are more upkeep, but the charm and nasalgia make it all worth while:)

Really nice wooden house but check in time is late and check out time is so early.

  • 4 of 5

Really cozy and beautiful house. More roomy than in the pictures. We like the decor, very stylish. But if it could have more early check in time and late check out time would be much better.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you liked the cabin! The check-in time and check-out time are set because of the time it takes to clean a big cabin between guests. On the congratulations response, following the check-in time and check-out time is the option to call and pre-arrange or alter arrival and departure times if needed, and her schedule permits. She is very willing to work with guests when they call ahead.

Good location to park.

  • 3 of 5

Good location to park. Good open concept kitchen/living room/dining room. Good off the street parking. Dark bathrooms & bedrooms. No hair dryer. Good value for your money.

Owner's Response: love your enjoyment and honesty. The cabin is so conveniently located in nature, near the lake and shopping. We used to have hair dryers, but they were constantly 'missing', so I finally gave-up :( , glad you noticed all the details we do provide to pamper you :)

An excellent property in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

The "Cozy Cabin" really was cozy. It was clean and fairly well maintained. It was exactly as described in the listing, with a lot of seating in the living area and two very good sized bedrooms upstairs. The cabin's location is outstanding; walking distance from Regan (3 blocks) and El Dorado beaches, in the quiet Al Tahoe neighborhood. The cabin is decorated well in a rustic, log cabin motif and had everything we needed for an awesome week at "The Lake." The owner communicated very well, answering the couple of questions we had during our stay quickly.

We enjoyed several nearby restaurants, including the new Cold Water Brewery, Mandarin Garden, Heidi's and MacDuff's Public House. We cooked dinner in the cabin as well, just relaxing "at home". We also ventured to The Beacon at Camp Richardson for a lovely dinner on the lakefront. Walks on the beach at sunset became a favorite activity as well as hikes in the Hope Valley.

We have a leather-bound notebook in the cabin with most restaurants and activities in the area that can help with ideas and planning upon arrival.
