At the end of the rainbow we designed, built, and completed our French Country style dream house in 2010 called A and H Wildflower Ranch. We have a sunny custom kitchen with lots of counter space and an open floor plan to the main living area and dining area, 2 master bedrooms that have either a patio or balcony, an additional bedroom with attached bathroom, an office, and atrium sun room. There are doors from all rooms leading to the exterior patios and decks that surround our home.
We have an inviting and open floor plan that provides lots of sunlight. The many windows throughout our home allow you to enjoy the spectacular views of Mt. Sopris, the 31 acres of open-space which includes a pond, the Roaring Fork River, as well as the Flattops Wilderness Area north of Glenwood Springs. Not only can you enjoy the views from the interior, but you can also relax outdoors while watching and listening to wildlife, birds, the stream, or consider the night sky from decks and flagstone patios that surround our home. Inside, there are little nooks with cozy spots for relaxing with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and a good book. We have an eclectic collection of books for browsing or reading and an assortment of games. Our custom kitchen has ample room for preparing, cooking, and visiting. Due to our stone and stucco exterior, the house remains comfortably cool even in the heat of summer without a swamp cooler, although we have ceiling fans in many rooms.
We are located halfway between Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. Our neighborhood consists of acreages with most of our neighbors owning horses. This creates a peaceful country feel to our property. Our central location makes this a perfect place to stay allowing you to explore up and down the valleys, no matter your vacation preferences. There is something for everyone here in the heart of the Rockies. Clay is a designer and builder. Cindy is an art teacher. We love to work, play and enjoy family and friends with our dog Ernie. We spend a lot of time outdoors gardening, hiking, camping, wildlife watching, swimming, kayaking, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, hunting and star gazing. We have thought about moving, but we love this area with the sunshine and climate too much to seriously consider going elsewhere. We prefer to invite family and friends to come and stay here instead. We decided to move into a lock-off apartment above the garage when circumstances changed our original plans. This allows us to continue adding to our property. As you may be able to guess, 7 acres doesn't take care of itself! We thoroughly enjoy planting seeds and trees in hopes that we will have a wonderful orchard one day.
We bought this property in 2006 and designed and built our dream home on the 7 acres. We completed the building in 2010. We fell in love with this property as we walked the open-space and down to the pond and Roaring Fork River. We love the views from this end of the 7 acres. We are outdoor loving people and we have found ourselves within easy distance of a huge diversity of outdoor experiences year round. We are pass holders at the world famous Glenwood Hot Springs and know why the Utes called it Yampah or 'Big Medicine'. We like that we are approximately 10 minutes away.
We placed the house on the edge of the open-space to maximize the views and the water feature. We have a stream running down in front of the south side of the house that provides a wildlife corridor year round. We have a wide variety of birds that live and eat here. We also enjoy the many species of mammals, such as, fox, deer, elk, bobcat, chipmunk, and rabbit just to name a few, that use this corridor.
We have a fabulous view of Mt. Sopris. In addition, we have a trail that circles the whole subdivision. A section of the trail runs alongside the Roaring Fork River where you can walk, run, fish, skip rocks, enjoy watching the blue herons in their rookery, the nesting pair of ospreys, or the elk and deer that winter along the river. There is a pond with a variety of waterfowl depending on the time of year you are here. You can walk, cross-country ski or snowshoe along the trail. In addition, we are 3 miles from the Rio Grande bike trail that follows the old RR tracks up and down the Roaring Fork Valley. This bike trail begins in Glenwood Springs and continues all the way to Aspen.
It is a wonderful gateway just enough away from town to relax, but not too far for supplies and main street shopping. Plenty of space to hike or bike. You are out in the country so be prepared and don't go out alone cause there are wild animals. But sometimes it can be so nice to catch a glimpse of a doe getting water at a pond or eating pants in a neighbor's yard.
Owners live on property and are very helpful. They keep to there area of the house which is above the garage. You get the main house to yourself which is very large. The area has wonderful views. The garden is lovely, but please don't pick the flowers! I agree with the owners that leaving them makes it nice for all guests. They die so fast once plucked and take time to grow back or re-grow.
I have gone before when I was stressed out from work and just recovering from singles. I found it to be the perfect getaway to clear my head and rethink a few things. I would go again every summer if I could!
This home is very spacious and easily accommodated the 5 of us. The wildflowers around the home are wonderful and I took many pictures of them and the views of the mountains. The kitchen is big and made it easy to have many people in it at one time. A few things could be improved upon. All of the queen beds were very firm which none of us cared for so we didn't get a good nights sleep while we were there. I know it's hard to please everyone but one thing you look forward to on vacation is sleeping. The flagstone back patio area is laid uneven so you need to watch your step there and around the outside grill. Apparently this is for a natural effect. Overall we enjoyed our stay and love Glenwood Springs.
We very much enjoyed the home but the views even more. They were spectacular. Very peaceful place to stay
All of us had a wonderful time at the End of the Rainbow! The owners were extremely helpful is telling us what sights would work best for us. Our trip to the Maroon Bells was wonderful, then on to Aspen, Redstone, Marble and Carbondale. The property is beautiful and very relaxing - just what we needed to spend time catching up with our extended family. Have to say it was just the perfect place to hold our annual reunion. Definitely will be going back there again!!!
My family and I were not very pleased with our stay. First, the property owners live on site above the garage. That information was not provided to us before our stay. Second, the house was not very clean. The shower curtains were all riddled with soap scum, the washing machine had dirty clothes left in it which smelled of mold, the beds were not very clean, and the kitchen utensils still had food on them. The owners are very big on recycling and composting. I think it's great that the owners take pride in conservative however, I just wish that they provided the necessary supplies to be able to compost. The compost bin was an old ice cream container so it made it kinda difficult to fit composted items in there. The highlights of the stay were the beautiful view of the mountains. Also, the size was accommodating to our large family. It was very close to town which made commuting easy. Overall, I think I would have been able to enjoy the stay better if the house was clean and if the owners living on site was disclosed.
This house is spacious. Plenty of room for large groups. It was clean and well maintained. Main drawback- Home Owners live on the property (above the garage), which was not disclosed at the time of rental. This is a key piece of information for renters and should be provided.
Fly fishermen: You can walk down to the Roaring Fork River from the house.
Hunters: We have parking for your ATV/dirt bikes/boat/trailer.
