About John Wagner

I am a semi retired dentist and love being at Higgins Lake. I have three sons scattered across the country. We all converge back at the Lake during the summer and relive the early years with fond memories.

John Wagner purchased this house in 1971

Why John Wagner chose Michigan

My mother bought this cottage (immediately adjacent to our large family vacation home) in the early 1970's. She immediately transformed the house into a photographers studio. After she died, I remodeled the house to serve as my family's vacation home.

What makes this house unique

The cottage was totally rebuilt in 2006 which included re-insulating the front 450 sq feet of the house updating the kitchen,, tearing down the remainder, and adding on 1200 sq feet. There is also a new foundation under the entire cottage.

Great week to be at Higgins Lake

  • 5 of 5

Luckily, we had a HOT week, at Higgins Lake... It was such a pleasure to come in from the water and have A/C. This cottage is in a great location, a good family cottage, with a good beach, that you can walk out, into the water, for quite a ways, in a sandy part of the lake. We had the grandkids with us, so this was important. The cottage has a homey atmosphere and porch views are incredible. The tranquility of this place, says it all.

The property manager was very accommodating and was right on top of the few issues that we had.

The Dish TV and phone reception were good. I've booked for another week, for 2016. The cottage has an "old cottage feel, with wooden floors, and an expansive view of beautiful Higgins Lake."

I would highly recommend this place...It's just perfect to "chillax" and enjoy the beauty and sounds of silence. Another Higgins Lake memory...

Girlfriends Visit

  • 5 of 5

We three middle-aged women truly enjoyed this cottage. Plenty of room in the bedrooms to move about. Not at all cramped, dingy, or musty as I've experienced in other rentals. We found clean, modern bathrooms and kitchen; refrigerator was spotless! We brought our own sheets, but cupboards are loaded with plenty of bath-towels, sheets, and blanket-throws for your beds and yourselves (while watching TV). Beds were as good as home: not very aged and no lumps. And the property location at the end of the road made for very quiet stay.

Higgins Lake August 2012

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Higgins Lake. Our whole family came ranging from 8 months to 92 years. Very comfortable accommodations and clean! What a pleasure to get up each morning and watch the lake from the deck! My grandchildren delighted in playing at the beach and the sandy bottom lake! The shallow water is great for little ones to walk and play. My 92 year old mother-in-law particularly enjoyed sitting out on the patio down by the lake watching her great-grandchildren in the water!

Christmas in Michigan

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cabin on the lake! Everything as advertised, and clean as a whistle. Very well equipped, and well maintained. Would highly recommend this property, and would certainly rent it again.

One trifling detail, scissors would be helpful. Found ourselves wrapping presents on Christmas Eve without a pair. Oops! :-)

We had a great time!

  • 5 of 5

My kids, my ex-husband/friend Roger, had a great time time during our stay at John's cottage on Higgins Lake. On the way up we were all a little bit nervous, coming all the way up from Cleveland and all, but once we got here, we knew we were going to have a great time - and we were right! We couldn't believe how colorful the lake was, and the temperature, well, it was perfect! We sunbathed on the dock, and even made homemade blueberry pies over the fire one night. The kids were in heaven, and well, this was just what they needed after a hard year at school. But mostly, it was just what Roger and I needed, after our long work days in the laboratory. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Owner's Response: Dear Cindy, Thank you so much for your kind letter! We work very hard to make people's stays enjoyable, it's nice to have our efforts appreciated. As you know this year was the new deck along the side and front of the house as well as other improvements that can't be seen. Thank you, John Wagner
