Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, 5 Sleeps

Located on the top floor of a classic 1898 classic Brooklyn brownstone, this apartment occupies the entire span of the 4th floor. The entrance is separate from the entrance that the family uses, going up the front steps of the house. Complete with skylights and tree top views, it is a peaceful haven with wood floors and exquisite artwork. The back windows look down on tree-filled backyards with a multitude of birds and squirrels who make their lives there. The front windows gaze down and across the the tops of other 19th century rooftops on the block. The block is inhabited by many different kinds of people, from families to young people enjoying the cultural renaissance of Brooklyn life to old timers who can talk about the changes that have taken place in the neighborhood over the past 40 years. Subways are nearby and in 30 minutes one can be in Manhattan or in 15 minutes to downtown Brooklyn.

About Elizabeth Macon Agee

I am a teacher, artist, mother of two mistress of this beautiful old and historic house in Brooklyn. Surrounded by so much history and the most diverse population of people living together)

I love people and have been immensely enjoying my role as hostess over the past two years. I have had some of most interesting and wonderful people stay here who I will hopefully see again either in their countries or hometowns, or right here if they ever come back.

Elizabeth Macon Agee purchased this townhome in 2000

Why Elizabeth Macon Agee chose Brooklyn

For those who treasure this part of Brooklyn - as many do - its historic roots, cultural diversity and home to such a wide array of artists, musicians, professionals, workers and other unclassifiables - this is the perfect spot.

In the heart of Bed-Stuy, but only a stone's throw from Bushwick, Williamsburg, Ft. Greene, we are in the perfect spot. Manhattan by car is only 15 minutes while by train it may take 30 - 45 to over to the 'city'

However, Brookyln itself has so much to offer these days in the way of cultural institutions, restaurants, music, a plethora of happy hours, and many other spots of interest.

Clean, spacious apartment

  • 4 of 5

Family friendly, light-filled, artfully decorated apartment in quiet neighborhood. Apartment bedrooms are private and can be locked. However, there is not a door to the third floor apartment; kitchen, bathroom (with a door that locks inside), and dining area are accessible to other guests. Perhaps this is in the description about the apartment, I don't remember and only add it as we felt badly that we couldn't close a door to dampen the noise made by our young children. The apartment is close to the G and J trains to Manhattan or buses that go into downtown Brooklyn. Our host Elizabeth was welcoming and helpful. Free wi-fi.

Decent price for decent stay

  • 3 of 5

I would definitely stay here again. It's about the same price as a hostel with WAY more space. You could sleep 3-4 comfortably. We were about an hour subway ride out of Manhattan and a couple block walk from the bus. The neighborhood seemed ok. If you're trying to see new york on a budget, this place will do just fine.

Elizabeth ist eine tolle Gastgeberin und wir kommen gerne wieder hierher zurück :-)

  • 5 of 5

Nice place and good tradeoff to visit New York

  • 5 of 5

The appartment is very pleasant and it is a good tradeoff to visit NewYork at a reasonable cost. Less then 45 min to go to Manhattan center by subway.

We have not met enough the owner who was very nice.

The equipment to prepare the meals could be more important but it is really a very very minor drawback.

The neibourhood is really safe.

la proprieta' la consiglierei solo per il prezzo

  • 1 of 5

la casa e' situata in una zona non bella e lontana dalla metro, la casa aveva alcune stoviglie molto sporche, la proprietaria molto gentile.

non la consiglierei se non per il prezzo.

Owner's Response: I am very surprised by the comment about "dirty dishes" I keep my house impeccably clean and can't imagine what the guests are talking about unless something went undetected and was left in the cupboard without being cleaned thoroughly. For this I do apologize. This apartment is beautiful and charming and comfortable. It is not meant to be a luxury apartment in Manhattan but rather is in a classic 120 year Brooklyn brownstone. Of course, if the guests preferred they could have rented something much more costly instead of my very reasonably priced apartment. We are also located in a fantastic and diverse neighborhood.
