The Owner purchased this condo in 2010
Thank you so much for a wonderful and charming stay. We truly enjoyed the apartment and the ammenities. Our next visit to Quebec City will included a stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay. The owners Maud and Jonathan were great. The price was very reasonable. Great location short walk to everything. Hot tub worked great. We loved the old Quebec charm of the condo and would recommend to all.
We had a pleasant stay in this condo in mid October. The condo's best features are LOCATION (heart of Old Quebec near Rue Ste.-Jean), SPACE (eat-in-kitchen, two bedrooms plus living room with sleeper sofa), and LAUNDRY facilities. Also, we must mention the friendly OWNERS as a plus. The condo was never too hot nor too cold during our stay. Public parking is a short walk away. The hot tub functioned while we were there and we used it, but it was more on the very warm side rather than hot (96 degrees.) The kitchen has all the dishes, utensils, and tools that you will need during your stay.
The negatives of the condo are the uneven floors and stairs. Yes, they are to be expected in an old building, but the stairs are very slanted to one side and the floor between the living room and kitchen has a step of about 1 1/2 to 2 inches so take your balance and mobility into consideration when deciding whether to rent the condo. We ourselves tripped on the step several times and my son fell part way down the stairs but was OK. Parking was listed as an amenity so I had thought it was included. It turns out that public parking is a short distance away, but no parking was included with the rental. It ended up being difficult to find someone to help us buy a parking pass so we had the additional expense of daily parking. There is a also a lot of dust from the mortar between the stone walls. I know that the apartment was dusted before we arrived, but by the time we left 3 days later there was significant dust. Another negative is that the massive bookcase on the left of the fireplace is secured by a single screw that is coming out. Because the bookcase is so heavy and tall but not deep, I was constantly worried that my youngest would try to climb it and it would fall on him. I mentioned the issue to one of the owners and she said that they might secure the bookcase. Another much more minor issue (for us) was the presence of many almonds on the floor in the living room which told me that that room had not been given a proper cleaning before our arrival. We are not allergic so it wasn't a big concern, but when you pay an $80 cleaning fee, I think it's reasonable to expect that the last renters also paid the fee and so the apt should be free of snacks on the floor. I mentioned the nuts to the owner after our departure.
The cupboards had salt, pepper, tea and sugar. Bring your own shampoo.
Our family of four couldn't have had a better spot to stay while exploring Quebec City. Maud & Jonathan have created a wonderful apartment which is in a terrific location. We never used our car our four days in the city, and enjoyed exploring and learning the history of this area. The apartment is very comfortable and we appreciated having a convenient washer & dryer. Our only two suggestions would be providing a portable fan for the upstairs part as we were in Q. City on some warm and humid days and it tended to be warm in the living/kitchen area. The bedroom areas were absolutely cocoon- like with individual air-conditioning units which made them super comfortable for sleeping. Our second suggestion is to have a local "recommendations" info sheet for guests. There are many restaurants in the area, and we appreciated when Maud gave us a recommendation when we were in the mood for Italian. Her recommendation -- Sapristi -- was delicious!
We stayed about a month in this condo and we really really appreciated our trip in Québec city! We found every thing we need to enjoy our stay in this condo. We can not find a better place to enjoyed the old town. Thanks again!
Working with owners Maud and Jonathan was a pleasant and easy experience. They were communicative, kind, and helpful. Having rented multiple properties in the U.S., I was surprised there was no contract, security deposit, or cleaning fee. They provided us with the entrance code for access to the condo in case they could not be there, but we were fortunate to meet them for a few minutes when we arrived. Lovely people. The house appears to have once been a one-family and it's now divided into three apartments. If you rent this, you'll enter and ascend about 10 steep stairs to a landing. This condo is on the first floor. The main floor is one very large room divided into a kitchen and living room. There's a hallway and back door to the hot tub in the tiny yard. It's easier to bring your luggage in the back door off of the side street. There is a steep set of stairs to the lower level, where you'll find the two bedrooms and the very large bathroom. My mother is 70 and had no problem with the stairs. My kids loved the hot tub and the black cat that visited every morning. My husband loved how dark the under-ground bedrooms got. He could sleep forever. Pros: working with Maud and Jonathan; this condo is in the absolute middle of everything. Just a block from Notre Dame, the street is quiet and we never had an issue with noise. We'd stay here again because I can't imagine a better location. We could walk every where- tons of restaurants, shops, and entertainment within minutes. I loved the owner's sense of whimsy and eclectic style. Obvious love went into the renovation of this home and its full of historic charm; underground, secure parking is just a five-minute walk away. We paid around $70 for a seven day parking pass with in/out access. The washer/drier was a plus. Cons: If you don't appreciate historic charm or if you require luxury, this is not the place for you. There were some spots were the reno looked unfinished and the upstairs hardwood needs refinishing. Cons for us: We were there during a heat wave. Few windows open so there was zero air circulation. The owners were kind enough to bring more fans for us, but we were unbearably warm for most of the stay. Even with fans it was stifling. We are almost neurotically clean people. This condo was superficially clean- appliances, shower, etc. were obviously cleaned before our stay; however, the entire apartment needs a deep clean- mopping, dusting trim, cobweb removal, etc. Quebec City is beautiful.
This apartment was wonderful. It was as lovely as in the pictures, clean, with beautifully rehabbed bedrooms and bathroom and well stocked with everything we needed for four. Location was excellent for exploring the old town. Stairs down to the bedroom/bath below were a bit steep, but surrounded by walls for you to easily hold onto. I would gladly stay here again and recommend this apartment.
