Welcome to Casa Aracari...Let your imagination soar where the Sky meets the Sea, located at a comfortable 400 meters above the coastline of Punta de Ballena in Costa Rica. This ideal tropical vacation home is nestled in the jungle on one acre of Paradise. Its unique architecture and original design by Eva offers a spacious open-air indoor/outdoor floor plan. Walk in and pinch yourself to make sure you are not dreaming!
We take pleasure in sharing the beauty of Costa Rica by using materials manufactured locally and incorporated in the design throughout the house. Construction was completed in December 2010 by local craftsmen/artists Wilberth Acuna and Dagoberto Mora. The spiral teak staircase at the heart of the home, wraps itself around a locally grown Guanacaste tree. The railings are artistically handcrafted with local Mangrove roots and Bejuco vine. The ceiling is lined with grass mats made by skilled Mayan Indians especially for Casa Aracari.
The fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and beautiful custom wood counters is the social center of the home. For an extra special treat, create your own gourmet dinner and serve it in the dining room while enjoying the sunset views. Sit in the living room, open the tall folding glass doors, and create a large indoor/outdoor living space with panoramic views of the pool, jungle covered mountains, ocean, Bahia Ballena, and surrounding bird life.
Relax under the covered deck in a hammock or lounge chair, go for a swim in the beautiful infinity pool, or enjoy an ice cold drink made from delicious fruits of the region while sitting on one of the four bar stools at the table shaded by the palapa covered umbrella in the pool.
So many beautiful scenes will delight you as you sit on the upstairs balcony and watch in awe as the sunrise and sunset transform the sky! Watch from the balcony for the many varieties of wildlife in the area... the jungle surrounding the house promises an abundance of tropical sights and sounds that will continue day and night. Be sure to have your camera ready! Howler Monkeys, Toucans, Parrots, and Dart frogs are frequent visitors.
There is a Casita on the property which offers a charming bedroom for two with Queen size bed and full bathroom, a small kitchen and dining area. If you wish to rent the main House and need additional room, then it is possible to rent the Casita also for a small additional amount. You will always have the use of our entire property to yourselves for total peace and tranquility.
Guests who rent our home enjoy the use of a beautiful nearby beach at no charge with our special Beach Club membership. Our Beach Club has a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, showers, restrooms, parking, and the private access to one of the beautiful beaches in Marino Ballena National Park.
Neighboring towns of Uvita, Dominical and Ojochal offer fabulous Restaurants to delight your taste. As a guest of Casa Aracari you are also welcome to enjoy the special cuisine at nearby Kura Boutique Hotel. Let us know if you are interested and we will put you in contact with Kura directly for your reservations.
The road up the hill to Casa Aracari will take you on an Adventure passing by waterfalls, small bridges over streams, tree ferns, tropical flowers, surrounding jungle life and ocean views. You will see Costa Rica at its best! A 4x4 vehicle is required in many areas of Costa Rica, including our area.
There are many thrilling and educational activities in the area...Something to please everyone. Our staff is available to assist with questions and bookings. See list of Activities below.
We hope you enjoy planning your trip to Casa Aracari in beautiful Uvita, Costa Rica.
Living in southern California, our family has always enjoyed outdoor activities at the Beach, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, Nature, and hiking. Our interests then were a perfect fit to purchase a home at the beach in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. Our favorite beaches in the Osa Peninsula are Playa Ballena, Playa Ventanas, and Playa Hermosa.
My husband, our two-year-old daughter, and I loved our stay at Casa Aracari! The place is even more beautiful in person! We woke up every morning with the howler monkeys, ate breakfast while watching the toucans fly from tree to tree, swam in the infinity pool after the sun came up, and checked in on the dart frogs by the gate each day before heading to the beach or whatever activity we had planned. The house is fully stocked with any kitchen items you could need, and the grocery stores in town had everything we needed. We loved stopping at the Waterfall Café on our way back to the house each day to have ice cream (we heard their chips and guacamole and fish tacos are fantastic too) and see the beautiful waterfall. We loved the Uvita area as well. Our daughter was a big fan of the beaches so we checked out quite a few. Playa Hermosa is the "free" beach just on the north side of Uvita where you can park in the shade and walk 20 meters down to beach any time. (The other closest beaches charge $6 a person because they are part of national parks, though this entry fee is good for all of them in the same day once paid.) We also loved walking out on the Whale's Tail beach, it's so unique with waves crashing on both sides. We ate at La Casona several times, which is the restaurant in the same shopping center with the Uvita information center where you pick up the key. The food was very good (we liked the "typical dish" and the chicken and rice). We also walked the nature trails around Hacienda Baru (just north of Dominical) and saw monkeys there. We had lunch in Dominical, which is a fun and unique little "surf" town on the beach. If you want to see crocodiles, stop by the crocodile bridge on the drive down to Uvita. It is north of Jaco, and you will probably see people standing on it looking down. As our guide on the mangrove tour told us, "You will see crocodiles, 200%." Getting to the house does require 4x4, our little loaded down Jimny was up to the task no problem (Alamo rental from airport was great with very transparent charges… the 3rd party liability insurance is required at $12/day, the CDW can be declined if your credit card covers it; most Visa’s do cover CDW including collisions off a paved surface, not the case for MasterCard). The instructions are tough, but they worked. Know that the house is about 5km up the mountain; this will keep you patient as you follow the directions. So glad we got to experience this slice of heaven!
We rented Casa Aracari for 10 days. The house is gorgeous, the view spectacular and the "service" (home owner, property manager and gardener) exceptional. This was my 5th trip to CR, first time renting a house. I love every aspect of it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Special kudos to Trina P. who manages the property. Trina is a superhero in human form! Everyone was readily available to answer questions and provide assistance. The house was immaculately clean and had everything one could need. Again, amazing view of the ocean and of the "Whale's Tail". The road was rough and it was FUN! We didn't mind at all having to slow down and get into 4 wheel drive. Grocery stores, bank, restaurants just below in Uvita and a great location from which to reach Corcovado, Manuel Antonio and even go up into the mountains (one day trip to Talamanca Reserve past San Isidro). It's a perfect place. Thank you Claire and Trina!!!
My family( 3 daughters ranging in age from 17 to 3 yrs old, my husband , and myself) stayed in Casa Aracari for a truly wonderful week. We LOVED the stunning views and the nature sounds. We enjoyed cooking in the well appointed kitchen and swimming in the pool. This home felt just like that- a home. We rented a Toyota Prado 4x4 which was perfect for us and we had no problems getting up and down the hill -in fact our girls really loved it- it was liking going on a ride. We did too many amazing things to list, but the owners and property manager were just delightful to work with, Marvin was wonderful as we spent a day with him and Uvita was just great for us. The only drawback to this home was lack of air conditioning. We did not have trouble with the heat in The evenings and early mornings, but we found that by about 11am each day the house was just too hot for us to bear so we would have to go out somewhere. If you can, bring some fans with you and that will help. But I don't think it would deter us from staying there again- we would stay at Casa Aracari again in a heartbeat. We just kept smiling and saying we had hit the jackpot with this home!!! Do yourself a favor and book this home for your next getaway!
Where shall I begin, with one of the best experiences of my life?? As soon as I saw this listing, and I had looked at dozens, I knew this was where we had to stay! I was delighted to find out our dates were available, and spoke directly with the owner Claire, who was so easy and lovely to plan with! Now for the property~~this was our second time to the Uvita area, so we knew the beauty of it, but after arriving at Casa Aracari, it took beauty to a whole new level. Yes, we had seen the Whale's Tail, but not like this! You do need a good 4 wheel drive vehicle with good ground clearance to get there, but for me and my husband, this was part of the appeal! We arrived just when the sun was getting ready to set, which is one of the most magical times in Costa Rica, when the sounds of the jungle come alive, pure heaven for me. The house and property are every bit as beautiful (no, more) as what you see in the listing. Entering the house feasted our eyes with such beauty, everywhere you look you are filled with peace. Then, you open the doors to the outside, where the pool and patio are located, with ab-so-lute-ly the best view of the Pacific and Marino Ballena National Park (aka Whale's Tail) We were in our own little piece of paradise, completely private. I am a horticulturist, so on our first full day there, we strolled slowly through the gardens, which are filled with the most beautiful tropical plants and fruits! There is a lime tree, and a star fruit tree, with perfectly ripe fruit. Casa Aracari is an experience in itself, you don't even need to leave! I will hopefully return, sooner rather than later!
Claire, I would like top thank you for once again letting us enjoy your beautiful piece of paradise. (3rd stay at your house) we are seasoned travelers and for us to come back to any one place is unusual. However, Casa Aracari is the exception. From the moment you open the gate to the house it is clear, this is a special place. From the beautiful doors in the living room that allow you to bring the outside into the house and the infinity pool that overlooks the whales tale, you are captivated by the serenity of the jungle world that surrounds you.
The house is very well appointed with a gormet cook setup. We spent every night cooking beautiful meals including
BBQing of a 5 pound Pargo that we bought from a young Tico who had just caught the fish off the reef on a local beach that we had been snorkeling at early in the morning...Maybe the best fish we had ever had. The young man was typical for the local Ticos who are very welcoming to travelers and enjoy sharing thier beautiful country with us.
The beaches of the southern pacific are amazing. Our favorite beach is Ventanas which is now a park and is very safe and clean. The caves are a blast to explore and we even body surfed the waves in the caves..Simply awesome!
Like other reviews, Marvin is awesome. He will custom make an activity that is unique and gives you a real Tico experience.
If you want to enjoy the beauty of a Rain Forest and do it in the most comfortable setting imaginable , Casa Aracari is for you...Pura Vida
wonderful time in Costa Rica. Have been in the south pacific region numerous times and Casa Aracari was another great adventure. Wonderful home with large comfortable kitchen and dining area, beautiful patio and pool/yard. Lots of wildlife visitors including daily tucan visits, can toads, amazing praying mantis and of course the many gecko's .. Thanks to the owners and management
Casa Aracari is gorgeous!!! Our family of 3 (2 Adults and 1 Teenager) just spent 5 fabulous nights in this Beautiful home, in Uvita. As soon as we entered the home, we knew we had picked the perfect place for our vacation. This lovely home really exceeded our expectations. The pictures do not do it justice. The interior of the home is decorated with local woods throughout that exude a theme of connection with Nature as if the home grew up organically from the jungle that surrounds the property. The main Living room opens completely to the patio outside, allowing you a true sense of indoor-outdoor living in the middle of the jungle, but with all of the comforts and amenities of a luxurious home.
You can see the Whales tale from almost every room in the house, and you’ll bring memories of the view home with you. It is wonderful to sit out by the beautiful infinity pool in the mornings with a cup of coffee, watch the surf crash on the Whales tale, and listen to the sounds of the birds and monkeys in the trees. Our family enjoyed daily swims in the pool and the nighttime backyard BBQs.
Claire was quick to respond to all of our questions and had some wonderful ideas about what to do in the area. We particularly enjoyed a boat tour down the Sierpes River. Lunch at the Beach club was a wonderful way to enjoy an uninterrupted day at the beach. You will want to to rent a good 4x4 as many roads are unpaved in the area.
When we visit Costa Rica next time, we will definitely stay at Casa Aracari again.
